Am I required to have a front plate? TIA.

I don't have a front plate on any of my cars. I was pulled over once for speeding. The cop mentioned it, but didn't give me a ticket for it.

if your definition of required = necessitated by maryland law, the answer is yes....

however most cops don't really care - except maybe in places with worthless cops like towson or aa county :)

it is a law in MD but I don't have mine on. i only got a ticket for it once in DC. some parking meter dude pulls over, walks straight to my car and gives me a ticket for expired meter and no front plate and gets back in his car and leaves

there were 10 other cars around me all with expired meters, it was at a local starbucks that everyone stops in on their way to work so no one feeds the meters

Yup, front tag is a "law" ... got pulled over once... went to court, made up some BS.. and the judge lowered it to $2 fine :)

ok heres what i was told by a cop a few days ago when i was pulled over

"Not having your MD front tag on your car is an arrestable offence"

i asked a cop at the station if it were true and the cop said no
then i said the cop that pulled me over said so. so the cop at the station said "oh....well...technically hes right....under certain curcumstances...."

In MD yes it is definitely required, especially rolling through Montgomery County, they will get you for anything.

Confused here, why is it such a big deal to have a front plate? Some of you act like they are forcing you to run it on your GF/wife's grill? It's a freakin car that you drive on the damn beltway everyday. You're probably running over dead hookers everyday, I'd be more worried and complain about that!

I had a euro tag that had my plate number and got pulled over whenever a cop would glance at my car. I took it off after 3 tickets because I didnt want to spend 150$ a month on tickets. What angered me the most was that it said my plate number exactly and its even more visible at a further distance than the MD plate. All my tickets were 55$. The last time I was pulled over the cop passed me, immediately flipped a bitch and followed me for a couple minutes. Not having a front plate was the only thing he pulled me over for. He didnt like my "Slow day huh, officer?" comment. Learned my lesson and now I have my front plate.

I ask the cop, can I ask you a question? Sure. You followed me for 2.5 miles. We made several turns. Not once did you ever use a turn signal. Are cops exempt from using their turn signal. I mean, it wasn't like you were in pursuit or on a call. That pissed him off good. Then he wanted my reflective film. I said NO. He wanted to prove that I removed it. I told him, if it is illegal (which later I found out it is) I'll remove it. He still wanted it. NO. It's my property and I do not have to surrender it. I really thought he was going to take his mag light and smash my lights out. :D

I got pulled over by a Maryland State Trooper Sunday on my way to the last AI (http://www.autocrossersinc.org/wp) event of the year in Aberdeen; this happened right as you get on to 95 from 695. Sole reason for pulling me over was for not having a front tag (even though its very visible in the windshield): $60. Oh, and for my trouble he gave me another $100 worth of tickets....what an asshole cop. I do plan on making him go to court.
