I was pulled over once for speeding. The cop mentioned it, but didn't give me a ticket for it. dcardenas 12-23-2002, 04:44 PM Woohoo! Nick MD 12-23-2002, 06:35 PM You must have a front license plate in MD. dcardenas 12-24-2002, 12:39 AM Where's yours? SaM3 12-24-2002, 03:56 AM if your definition of required = necessitated by maryland law, the answer is yes.... however most cops don't really care - except maybe in places with worthless cops like towson or aa county :) JLee 12-24-2002, 11:19 AM it is a law in MD but I don't have mine on. i only got a ticket for it once in DC. some parking meter dude pulls over, walks straight to my car and gives me a ticket for expired meter and no front plate and gets back in his car and leaves there were 10 other cars around me all with expired meters, it was at a local starbucks that everyone stops in on their way to work so no one feeds the meters jealous bastard jeff Nick MD 12-24-2002, 01:32 PM Originally posted by dcardenas Where's yours? :dunno :stickoutt laineyM3 12-27-2002, 12:21 AM Yup, front tag is a "law" ... got pulled over once... went to court, made up some BS.. and the judge lowered it to $2 fine :) LeVik 12-28-2002, 12:05 AM It's required, but who has one in MD? Not me. Elaine, I'm not dealing with Bruce anymore, he wanted me to leave my car overnight to get the RSMs installed, and hell no I was gonna leave it in that crappy alley overnight. Thanks for the reference though. johnnyblaze 12-28-2002, 09:10 PM mines not on... nobody's bothered me about it. 8 months - howard co. magnetic1 01-01-2003, 06:18 PM careful in DC/VA.. those meter maids will be happy to hand you a $40 ticket for no tag even if your meter isnt expired! 1996 328ti 11-05-2006, 07:54 PM Am I required to have a front plate? BS if you ask me 1996 328ti 11-05-2006, 08:18 PM ok heres what i was told by a cop a few days ago when i was pulled over "Not having your MD front tag on your car is an arrestable offence" i asked a cop at the station if it were true and the cop said no then i said the cop that pulled me over said so. so the cop at the station said "oh....well...technically hes right....under certain curcumstances...." QbcMtr 11-05-2006, 08:22 PM In MD yes it is definitely required, especially rolling through Montgomery County, they will get you for anything. RamGoat 11-05-2006, 10:17 PM ok heres what i was told by a cop a few days ago when i was pulled over "Not having your MD front tag on your car is an arrestable offence" i asked a cop at the station if it were true and the cop said no then i said the cop that pulled me over said so. so the cop at the station said "oh....well...technically hes right....under certain curcumstances...." BS if you ask me its true.....but ummmm....here is my theory based on my experience in MD... If you're white, IT'S ALLLL RIGHT.....IF YOU'RE BLACK, THEY THINK YOU SELL CRACK.....:redspot so if you are a white driver in the state of MD, you really dont need a front tag....... schosports 11-05-2006, 11:18 PM Yes. :deadhorse: Sorry Preppy I am a product of my environment. :( :lol Score one for Steven! x68monkeyx 11-06-2006, 12:09 AM hey i was just telling you my experience :) nothing was exageratted all truths!! and im a white boy too! Some of you act like they are forcing you to run it on your GF/wife's grill? It's a freakin car that you drive on the damn beltway everyday. You're probably running over dead hookers everyday, I'd be more worried and complain about that! shim 11-08-2006, 12:46 AM You're probably running over dead hookers everyday yea......i pushed her out of the car when she "demanded payment" :rolleyes :( jkuper 11-08-2006, 01:09 AM fity bucks in DC. Got 'em on my MD tagged car, too. Fockers. Mine is currently off and heck if I know where the damn thing is. :help Lactomaniac 11-08-2006, 02:17 AM I had a euro tag that had my plate number and got pulled over whenever a cop would glance at my car. I took it off after 3 tickets because I didnt want to spend 150$ a month on tickets. What angered me the most was that it said my plate number exactly and its even more visible at a further distance than the MD plate. All my tickets were 55$. The last time I was pulled over the cop passed me, immediately flipped a bitch and followed me for a couple minutes. Not having a front plate was the only thing he pulled me over for. He didnt like my "Slow day huh, officer?" comment. Learned my lesson and now I have my front plate. 1996 328ti 11-08-2006, 09:10 AM He didnt like my "Slow day huh, officer?" comment. Learned my lesson and now I have my front plate. When the cop pulled me over for photoreflective film covering my rear tag a 2nd cop car pulled over to assist and pointed out my no front tag. Bonus for Montgomery County. Anyway. . . I ask the cop, can I ask you a question? Sure. You followed me for 2.5 miles. We made several turns. Not once did you ever use a turn signal. Are cops exempt from using their turn signal. I mean, it wasn't like you were in pursuit or on a call. That pissed him off good. Then he wanted my reflective film. I said NO. He wanted to prove that I removed it. I told him, if it is illegal (which later I found out it is) I'll remove it. He still wanted it. NO. It's my property and I do not have to surrender it. I really thought he was going to take his mag light and smash my lights out. :D AvusM3Racer 11-08-2006, 09:31 AM I got pulled over by a Maryland State Trooper Sunday on my way to the last AI (http://www.autocrossersinc.org/wp) event of the year in Aberdeen; this happened right as you get on to 95 from 695. Sole reason for pulling me over was for not having a front tag (even though its very visible in the windshield): $60. Oh, and for my trouble he gave me another $100 worth of tickets....what an asshole cop. I do plan on making him go to court. Mike Nbx33 11-09-2006, 12:26 AM i see bimmers all the time in the MAR with the chrome BMW emblem front plates..... But just my luck when i get one i'll get pulled. Nbx33 11-09-2006, 09:55 PM Here is something i scrounged up .... all qouted from a internet article from WTOP news radio. If they're illegal...why did WTOP find so many cops using them? Every state regulates license plate covers. The problem is, the laws differ from state to state and so does the enforcement. All tag covers are illegal in the District and in Maryland. In Virginia, it is illegal to cover your license plate with anything tinted In Maryland, tag covers -- whether they are tinted or clear -- are illegal, with a fine of $60. However, when it came to defining license plate covers, officials in the state all interpreted the law differently. <!-- the str_replaces are for WC3 validation -->A spokesperson for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration said covering a license plate means placing something over it, while Montgomery County Police and Maryland State Police said the law applies to anything that obstructs the tag. |
