View Full Version : What does claying do?? HID_Positive 11-09-2006, 09:56 PM new to this and plan on waxing m car tommorrow and stuff..plmk MP525i 11-09-2006, 11:50 PM i was given this analogy and it stuck. imagine a baseball field. in the nice raked dirt, you see a weed. imagine that paint is the dirt on the field and weed resembles all the microscopic dirt that hits your paint everyday. if you use just a compound or cleaner wax it would be like going over that weed with a lawn mower. sure it cuts the weed down, but it's still there. what the clay bar does is like picking that weed from it's roots, leaving nothing but clean field. i hope i was clear with that. moral of the story, you wouldn't want to wax or polish when dirt is on your car right? by using the clay bar, you will remove any dirt that is there (and you can not see or feel). -mike CEbeling 11-09-2006, 11:56 PM it really does work well. You'll see a difference Delsol 11-10-2006, 03:12 AM Is there a wrong way to Clay your car (I know I opening myself up for sarcasm) But Ive heard that you can damage your car using clay... SpeedTheory 11-10-2006, 09:28 AM Claying is like anal sex. You gotta make sure you lube up. That's when people have issues with clay, when they don't use enough of the lubricant. When you buy your clay bar, buy some quik detailer too... because if you run out of the lube, use the quik detailer in its place. If your car's paint is rough, then you'll need to clay bar it. After claying, it should feel really REALLY smooth. -Randy PuckMan 11-10-2006, 08:37 PM I like the playing field/weed analogy. I've also heard that it's like a pair of tweezers that picks things out of the clearcoat. Polishing and buffing moves along the surface and while it may abrade down the imbedded crap it doesn't do a good job of removing the "roots". yonoconozco 11-11-2006, 05:18 AM claying gets rid of all the junk thats bonded to the paint. it prepares the surface for all the polishing and waxing after claying. |
