What is the purpose of the four body colored things mounted on the bumper in front of the headlamps?

BTW as a former Infiniti FX45 owner I have read many negative posts on the Infiniti forums about the performance of the X5 4.4. Those focusing on 0-60 times are missing out on the interior comfort, quality, fit, finish and quietness of the X5.

The power band is right where it's needed and the X5 tracks as well as the FX, with my style of driving.

Also my Chirocracker will hate this non sport X5. Very comfy ride for these 56 year old bones. LOL

Headlight washers. Their operation should be covered in your user's manual.

Thanks

Shame on me for not reading through the stack of documentation suppiled with this X5, yet. I did play the DVD but did not see anything mentioned there about washers.

One more question about oil change intervals. This X5 was in dealer inventory for 1 year. It has 400 mi. on the clock but BMW will not change the oil for another 12 months. They are OK leaving the factory fill in the engine for 2 years.

Does anyone have a problem with that?

You can always change the oil yourself if you are worried. Oil only degrades by oxidation (and sulphur in a diesel engine), i.e. when it gets hot over extended periods and become exposed to combustion gases in the cylinders. If the car only did 400 miles in a year, I would not get excited about the condition of the oil. If you change it, chances are the new oil would have been sitting in the container for a year as well. If the car does normal mileage in a year, the heat cycles will degrade the oil which will then require replacement after a year.

BMW recomends that you go no longer than 1 year between oil changes, reguardless of mileage. Go to the service department and tell them your vehicle is due for it's "Annual oil service" and they will change it unless it has already been performed w/i the last year.
