To figure this out, i took how much i paid for the car + all associated maint. costs.
eg, if you paid 20K then put in 5K over 2 yrs for repairs you are in it for $25k.
Then i take the $25K and subtract that by what i could realistically sell the car for now (basically figuring out the depreciation).
so if the car is selling for $15K now, then your ownership cost over the 2yrs has been $10k.
Then i divide the ownership costs by the amount of miles i have driven and i get my ownership costs per mile... supposed to make us feel better about depreciation and maint. :rolleyes
my cost is pretty high at 60 cents a mile
anyone else care to share

You are only at the tip of the iceberg. What about insurance and fuel or are those factored in the $5K ? 7 series usually run about 95 cents.

i have not factored in insurance or fuel because that is constant (for the most part)... I.e it may change slightly but you need insurance and gas for any car you have.
i'm surprised more people have not chimed in. It made me feel better to calculate mine and i think i'm really high.
I'd love to hear what my brethren has spent on their car, please it will make me feel better :(

or is my 60 cent a mile costs actually better than i thought.
I personally think its horrible and i was expecting 35 cents a mile, but then i had to go and spend $1000 repainting the side, and an unexpected alt failure didnt help...

I don't care how much is the cost per mile. This car is for my pleasure not to make money with it. If you see a beautiful girl in the bar you just don't care how much can cost a drink that you will buy for her all you want to do is Ride it. Same here I don't care how much will cost me all the FUN that I have riding in my 750 IL.:D

Dude, in the heat of the moment sure as hell you are not going to consider the $300 bucks you spent on her and her friends. Then at 2 PM she leaves with some overly large male. After the hangover you are 300 short and with a hard caack in hand i would care.
Fuel consumption and insurance differs a lot for each year, make and model of automobile and as such must be considered. Just as you factored in depriciation. However i think that these type of calculations are pondered upon as the individual matures.

Too soon to tell, but my predecessors averaged almost $1.00 per mile in depreciation alone!
