A friend if mine, who is a dealer is selling a 97 740i. 85k miles. Good condition,
but the power steering is a bit tight, hr changed the hoses already, but the steeering is very tight at low speeds. Any ideas what it might be?

And some of the pixels are dead, but that I can fix myself. I wanted this car for myself.

do a search using "servontronic" then another search using "speed sensitive steering" as a key word. This is the unit that controls power steering "feel".

If your friend has BMW diagnostic equipment...ask them to hook the car up...these cars have sensors all over them that store faults that register on these sensors. Instead of guessing...it may point you straight to where a problem exists.
