I am picking up my 2007 X3 3.0si on Friday from the dealer. The car came pre-wired for satellite radio and a CD changer and I really don't feel like paying the dealership what I deem a ridiculous amount of money to install the Sirius since it seems like a fairly simply operation (since the wires are all run already). I was wondering what the best place is to buy the Sirius receiver and all related parts? I have seen some places saying I need a specific one for my car (in the $450+ range plus the install kit) and others saying I can use a different one (PN 84-11-0-153-365) which is much less expensive. Obviously if one is almost $200 less and I can use it, I'd rather get that. I do not have premium sound or nav either. Thanks in advance!

No I never did figure out the answer to this question and have yet to purchase a satellite receiver for my X3. I would still be interested in finding out though!

Even if you manage to find the parts to DIY, you still need to program the car to accept them.

How can you tell if the radio that the x3- 2007 comes with is Sat compartible? Can you post a picture of your sat-radio? Mine only says business CD on it next to the volume knob. It doesn't have any sat key to press or select for sat mode.

Under "Confort and Convenience Features", on the window sticker shows:
-Anti-theft AM/FM stereo, CD/MP3 player audio system with auxiallary audio input.
-Pre-wiring for alarm system, 6-disc CD changer and satellite radio.
My concern is if I also need to change my radio. There are two different kits out there. One is just a sirius module that gets added and on the other one you have to also change the radio. Not to mention the huge difference in prices between the kits. Can anyone take a nice clear picture of their car radio in which they have only added the sirius module to upgrade to sirius? Also is there a way to verify what you actually need to upgrade to sirius based on vin number?

I have the factory Sirius radio and I love it except we can't figure out why it won't receive updates correctly. The dealer and Sirius are working on it. Sirius says it's a BMW problem. Currently no BMW receives channel 185 ( Canadian weather) and it should, according to Sirius. Without a factory radio you are pretty much on your own for problem resolution. You may rest assured that you will have problems.
