looking to remove the factory front windshield, side quarter windows, and the rear windshield such that the side quarter windows and the rear windshield can be put back in place in the same condition they were in when removed...the front windshild will get replaced with a new unit.

Anyone have any thoughts on the above procedure?

thanks:)

You ought to be able to unbolt the rear quarter windows. The rear windshield probably should be removed by a glass technician, or you can just go at it with a razor blade/box cutter.

The rear quarter panel windows are easy.

Remove the upper seat belt bracket on the b pillar (16mm nut, then two larger torx bolts), then remove the two 10mm'ish nuts, and either unbolt the rear bracket from the c pillar or remove the hinge from the glass direcly.

For the front windshield, a box cutter and some metal wire go a long way.

If you ever see the tool the "professionals" use its pretty much a combination of steel wire and a angled knife. Cut through gasket, seperate with wire. Lift windshield out. Takes a whole 2-3 minutes ;)

if you want to save the back glass, i would let a pro take it out. i've seen even pros damage a front windshield taking it off to see if they could. it was getting replaced, but they were showing a new guy how hadr it was.

Windshields become EXTREMELY fragile when they are out of the frame. They are not designed the same way that the side windows are in regards to needed support the whole way around.

Be careful!

Sunir... are you doing this to put in a new cage? or looking to reduce weight for GTS Challenge?

I was told by one local glass shop they didn't think they could get the rear glass out without breaking it. I didn't check with any others.

The front windsheild is already heavily cracked and will need to be replaced with a new one so for that I just want to remove it and don't care if it breaks while removing it...a glass shop will put a new one in.

For the quarter windows, those I want to remove safely and properly because those need to go back in just as they were...

same with the rear glass...that I wanted to remove and place back as it is so pretty concerned with that also...

this is for a possible redo on the cage...

Quarters are a 5 minute job per side, easily performed.

Rear and windshield are more difficult, require specialty tools, and need some technique to do w/o breaking them. I had a mobile glass installer come out and yank both for $50.

I have to pull my side and rear windows due to the PO tinting them very dark. A hot wire will do the trick on the sealed windows.

You can scrape that tint off, it's not that bad.

Sunir why are you considering a new cage?

Sunir why are you considering a new cage?

Well it was something I wanted to do since when my car was getting ready for the start of the '04 season...at the time we were rushing to get the car on the grid for that April VIR race and the rear half was done by one shop when the car still had interior, next the front half was added by another shop...so I think there by putting a new better designed cage it will yeild a safer and more rigind chassis...but again, I am just considering my options at this point...
