View Full Version : Panoz Racing School at RA or Sebring... Ryan-N-Austin 11-06-2006, 12:51 PM Im looking to attend a driving school to pilot a tin top car.. Anyone been to the Panoz school? BlkGT3 11-07-2006, 02:56 PM A friend of mine and I doing the RA Panoz school in Feb in prep for the 07 OLOA. I could have done the Panoz school @ Sebring but I wanted a more interesting race track. :redspot Peter krisko 11-07-2006, 03:58 PM Hmmm...where would you learn more. I'd say you'll learn more at Road Atlanta because it's got more classic turns. Sebring to me is the more fun track but it would be tough because of the physical abuse to car and driver. Especially since it's their cars, I personally would pick Sebring. Ryan-N-Austin 11-07-2006, 04:28 PM A friend of mine and I doing the RA Panoz school in Feb in prep for the 07 OLOA. KMB 11-07-2006, 05:32 PM If Sebring had a 500 foot hill in the middle of it, it would be in the top 5 in the world. As it is, it challenges anyone looking for that last tenth, even the last half, in a manner that few others do. Mistakes carry. There are almost violent arguments over the quickest line. There are so many different types of turns. I vote Sebring. KMB Ryan-N-Austin 11-07-2006, 06:44 PM Ok - How about this.. Which track has the least likely hood of rain? :D SpeedTheory 11-07-2006, 08:13 PM Depends upon when you go. In winter, Sebring. In summer, RA. krisko 11-07-2006, 08:45 PM In the summer, I guarantee it will rain at Sebring for about 10 minutes anytime between 2pm and 4pm daily. I would vote for RA because it is an easier track to learn if your experience level is low, Sebring is a sea of concrete. Also note that I learned more in one session with a knowledgeable instructor than I learned at the 3 day Panoz school. That being said, I went into the Panoz school with 4 years of motorcycle roadracing experience so I had a decent level of high speed experience and understanding of vehicle dynamics. Granted it was 2 wheels, but you don't get a lot of painless mistakes in that arena. You can spin a car, but not a bike. Chris redrumM3 11-08-2006, 01:22 PM I've done both tracks with Panoz in their race series. The cars are a lot of fun with the 5.0 liter V8 and the sold axle rear end, but very raw technically. I am partial to Sebring since it is my home track, but RA is an absolute blast with the elevation changes. Their instruction is pretty good, but not great and they don't have any data acquisition, etc. I think there are better schools out there, but it will definitely make you appreciate your BMW when you are finished. Scott dacman3 11-08-2006, 02:08 PM I think there are better schools out there, but it will definitely make you appreciate your BMW when you are finished. Scott What are some other better schools? Anyone have an personal experience? Dave redrumM3 11-08-2006, 04:51 PM I've done Panoz, Derek Daly and Skip Barber. I got the most out of Derek Dalys' three day comp school. Their data acquistion at the time was awesome, but it was several years ago and now they have changed to America Racing School or something like that. They use F2000 cars for their instruction. Bob Earl used to be the chief instructor. I don't know what it is like now. Skip Barber was really good as well but I attended them 10+ years ago so I can't really attest to what they are like now. Panoz was good, but of the three I got the least out of them. Scott dacman3 11-09-2006, 05:09 PM thanks alot i'll look into both those schools |
