View Full Version : My car clutch broken into 2 pcs.
Mohamed 525i 11-06-2006, 05:46 AM Well.
I was driving the car normally and there was no problem at all, I reached nearby my office, stop on red traffic light, green light comes, I engaged the tranny on 1st, no responce, 2nd......6th and even the Rev. nothing at all, I start looking for some leak everything was ok, some crack sound came out, I swithced of the car, a recovery came and took the car, I was thinking it was the linkage problem,
today my brother ( we have auto workshop ) jack the car, the linkage was ok, take out the tranny from its place, and    the clutch was 2 pcs. and the pilot bearing was not in place ?
I have to change it now, but was is the thing which make this shit happen ?
I didn't see the car yet but I'll share some pix as soon as I c it.

xatlas0 11-08-2006, 03:16 PM Since you are from out of the country, this expression may make no sense to you, but I feel it must be said:
Daym, boy! What in the Hells did you do?!
With that out of the way, I do have some questions. If I recall right, you currently have a complete 540 drivetrain in the car, meaning a M60B40 and a S6S 420G transmission. (the 6 speed) You got the trans from a busted E39 540. I recall that you used the 530 clutch and flywheel when you were using the 5 speed trans. Now, when you put in the 6 speed, did you switch to a M60B40 flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch?

Yes I did,, new M60B40 clutch kit and lighten flywheel, coz I tried to fix the tranny with the old ones, but didn't fit, the diamete of the clutch, the flywheel was diff. so I got new clutch kit and new flywheel

Ok. Now that I have gotten over the shock, I have looked at the pics in a bit more detail.
It looks like your TO bearing took a dump. The TO bearing not functioning would cause an excessive amount of shear on the inner/outer clutch connection points, causing the seperation you see. I do not know why your TO bearing would fail, however, as if I recall right, the TO and pilot bearings are included in a clutch kit. Perhaps you got a defective bearing? You may be able to get Sachs to send you a new kit. You would have to rule out improper use and improper install as causes for failure, however.
atl530i 11-09-2006, 05:59 PM That sucks. Glad to see you got it fixed though.
