Cruising down K10 on the way back to KU I start to pass this suv not thinking anything of it as I'm kind of zoned. Well I'm in the fast lane and all of a sudden he speeds up on my right (2 lane road either way) and rolls down his window to snap a pic. of my M. I laugh and just kind of cruise by at about 80 and he soon switches lanes to catch up.

I pull off to the right lane with my window cracked a couple inches and he pulls up on my left and points forward. I downshift to 4th then down to third doing about 60mph. Not sooner that I had done so I hear his Trailblazer SS start screaming. Obviously had an exhaust because this thing was deafening even w/ my test pipes and exhaust. I punch it and quickly put a half car on him up to about 120mph. Well I was going to shut it down as I shift to 5th but he keeps going and starts to pull, he gets up to where we are dead even and I shut it down. He gives me a thumbs up and we go on our way as we were pulling into Lawrence.

I was in utter disbelief for the rest of the trip back to my apartment. This huge 4000lbs. suv that has the aerodynamic characteristics of a brick just stuck with me to 130mph. Well, I went back to my apartment and immediately looked up the stats and apparently these things have close to 400hp at the crank and even more with the exhaust. I searched around and found a forum dedicated to these beasts and apparently stock they're running 13.6-13.8. Well, now that makes me feel a little better about my recently acquired M.

My first kill story, I hope you enjoyed it a little bit. Has anybody else out there ran into one of these things because I sure am amazed at the power they're putting out.

nice run . wow i wouldnt feel safe at those speeds in a suv , 120 in a m3 is alot different than 120 in a tank

Ya I couldn't believe this truck, I thought it would be a walk in the park and the guy was just screwing around but boy was i wrong. That thing was ridiculously loud.

i was actually deciding between an m3 and a trailblazer ss this summer because my dad can get some sweet deals on gm cars. it would have been 6000 total for a two year lease on one of those trailblazers for me. that includes the downpayment and monthly payments. when i test drove one, it was suprisingly quick. it felt just as fast as my m3 (not past 60). they are pretty ridiculous stock, so dont feel bad at all. that is a corvette engine for ya. nice race though.

Holy crap that thing must have been modded cause i totally owned one at the track for like 5 cars and i was on 195's street tires 2.1 60ft. It probably would be closer from say a second gear roll.

A couple points of clarification about what you're saying. You have the same motor I do in a car that is quite a bit lighter, at least I think so based on your sig.

Out of curiousity what 1/4 mile time did you run in that race that you owned him by 5 cars? The reason I ask is because these Trailblazer SS's run around 13.6-13.8 stock, leading me to believe that you may not have raced an SS. This SS would beat me in the 1/4 mile b/c my car is probably good for a high 13.9 to low 14 and the only reason I was beating him was the fact that he was driving a bus vs. my coupe.

i raced one from a roll about a few months ago, two kids, i pulled aboutg two cars to about 120 from like a 50roll.

Sounds about right, this thing had exhaust and he didnt start pulling until about 130, so your story sounds dead on.

I was still surprised as ever.

There's one reassuring thing about the e36m3 that I think all SUVs and trucks will have trouble beating - top speed. Even if he managed to stay on you or in front of you up to 120, I doubt it would last much past 130. With enough road you can top 155+ - assuming you’re chipped. While fairly safe in the e36, it would be downright dangerous as hell in a Trailblazer.

I’ve got a moded s50 e30 too. One of these days I’ll have to get a friend to run it against my stock e36 m3. I know the s50 e30 is defiantly a lot faster, but it would be interesting to run them side-by-side.

I can take a Trailblazer SS from a 60 roll, no problem.

They are available in AWD and RWD from the factory. Definitely no slouch, I just don't care for the shitty plastic interior. Nice to see GM upped the ante on the New full size SUVs. I'm considering buying a new Tahoe or Escalade in the future.

Thank you for letting us know, but like I said in my original post, this thing wasn't stock. Also, these things run 13.6-13.8 from the factory, so from a roll, ya you can beat it. However, from a dig it may be a different story, especially with AWD.

Yea, they have the LS2, so with very few mods you can get those things to really haul ass.

Hey, interesting run. I was anxious to hear the outcome, because my brother has his Trailblazer SS at the dyno shop now getting headers/exhaust, cam, CAI, and a tune. They are telling him to expect around 450+ RWP. I am hoping to still have him covered, maybe I'll need to turn my boost up to 8 psi or so to handle it. I will definitely post when we get together at the track for some brotherly fun.

I can say, when he let me take it for a drive, I was NOT impressed. But that was when it had 750 miles on it and I didnt hammer it too hard.

Check www.trailvoy.com (http://www.trailvoy.com) to see what these things are doing.

Nice run and write-up. I prefer the Jeep SRT-8 myself (big surprise) - low 13s stock and more purpose built for all-around performance. But I would agree the Trailblazer seems to be better for modding. It does lack a bit vs. the Jeep though.

Crazy SUVs with that hp, though. Better that than oversized wheels, IMO.

Yea, these trucks have the new vette engine in them and will shock you if you're not paying attention. I've actually been looking at them since last summer and if they would just improve the interior (hate american made interiors and dashboard set ups) I would have one in the garage right now. The Jeep SRT8 is another sweet one that is even faster than the SS. GM is throwing out that 0.0% for 72 months on 06's and 60 mo for 07's so they are really trying to tempt me, especially with the new 100k warranty. It would be my first american vehicle.

Yes, the Trailblazer SS will beat me from a dig, without a doubt. When you get into your car or truck, most of the time you are not racing. What is the thing you see the most when you drive your car or truck? Why, that would be the interior fit and finish. So, in conclusion, I am driving 99% of the time, not racing, enjoying the incredible interior of a BMW.

What does your interior have to do with this? :confused We were talking about the performance of the car. I'm glad you like your interior. I think what you are getting at though is that you would rather be driving around your 540i looking at the great interior (totally agree here) rather than looking at the plastic interior of the SS (again totally agree). But, I still don't know why you brough it up, oh well.

Damn! Sucks now that Chevy has gotten into the fast truck game. At least they aren't SCing V8s like Ford.
