okay I have a 1994 bmw 540i
when i go over 50 miles per hour and hit the brakes to slow down the car shakes and it doesnt stop till it goes below 45-40mph
its not just a little shake, its a pretty violent shake
I fixed the brakes and rotters(however you spell it) and that did not fix the problem
I beleive it is my front suspension...any ideas?
also, when I go to 45-50mph the car makes a sound, i beleive that it is my rear gear changer but I am not too sure on that either. (auto)
help? :)

That's a classic symptom of bad tension strut bushings and/or ball joints or bad control arm bushings and/or ball joints. Before having any parts replaced you should have a full suspension inspection done by an experienced BMW tech.

I would look at front control arm bushings
are you talking about the differental?
its the thing in the back of the car that has gears in it so the spinning drive shaft can make right angles to spin little drive shafts and make the rear wheels spin.
if its that, its most common a whinning type noise that changes frequency with wheel speed. but you can get clunks grinds and other horrable noises

I had this problem with my 89 735i. Problem was caused by bad upper and lower control arms. Replace those, got new tire and allignment. Did not completely fix problem until I did all of the above.

I just did my 94 530it this past weekend.
I was going to go deeper into front end part replacement, but decided to do it in order of probability to learn something. While other parts may or may not need replacement, it is your thrust arms that is causing the shake.

replace the control arms and thrust arms. it should fix your vibration. I do about three sets a week.
