Hi To any one out there, I am a very unhappy x5 owner and will tell you y.
I need some one to help me because I rely want to love it.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
This has been a dream to have an x5 ever since it came on the market.
<o:p> </o:p>
I got my x5 over a mouth ago and from day 1 it has been one think after another and I am going mad.
<o:p> </o:p>
My jeep is a
BmwX5 diesel
3 liter sport
Year 2002
225.000km
With most of the extras.
It is a stunning looking animal but it is just so sick!
<o:p> </o:p>
I live in Bulgaria and there is only one garage here that specializes in BMW but I know I will be taken for a ride if I go there being a foreigner, and my brother in low is a owner of his own garage here and has the whole diagnoses machinery, but dos not have so much experience with BMW x5 but dos in most other BMW’s from old to about 2003.he is rely a good mechanic but he is struggling and needs help finding some of the problems.
<o:p> </o:p>
1.Ticking noises<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
There is a loud ticking noises coming from somewhere near the alternator, the noise only happens when the engine is cold and it is lowed, my brother has taken apart most of the stuff around the alternator as well as the alternator and we can not find where the noise is coming from(any one knows this problem I would love any comments if this sounds familiar.
<o:p> </o:p>
2.Fan belt<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
When I stop the car every time it makes a noise like the fan belt is old but it is not. It is new. He thinks he knows this problem but any one have any good feed back just so we do not buy a part for nothing.
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
3.Power loss<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
This is a rely funny one, if I am on an open road and I floor it I get to 4000reves then I loose power(this happens only some times and if it happens it keeps doing it until I stop and restart the jeep).Note on the diagnostic machine says: “High boast pressure `”
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
4.Dead battery<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
My battery went dead on day 2 so I just went to get a new one. Now that is dead too! We have tested the power as would any mechanic when the car is running and it is normal. Yet on the first day of real cold I had not even enough power to open the door (this is now my new battery). Please bear in mind he has already tested the alternator and it seems normal.
<o:p> </o:p>
5. window<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
My front passenger window just stops working some times!.
How this started was, one day I was pulling up to my house and stopped the engine. At the same time I stopped the engine, the window went down and it would not go UP until I turned the ignition on to first position. This has happened for one day only (every time I stop the window goes down)the next morning it stopped going down without help, now it will go down but will not go up. Only if I stop the car and put it in first position then it will go up.

1. make sure all everything is connected well, the clicks could be little electric shocks to poorly connected wires

I have an 01 x5 3.0 and i have a ticking as well when it is cold. The dealer told me it was the valves, but it was normal.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I will give you this advice if you live were it is cold make sure not to take too many short distance trips (3 miles at a time). I have for 3 winters in a row had an oil pressure valve (that’s not the technical name, I have it on the bill if you want me to look it up) fail because of the way synthetic oil separates when gets cold. It opens to release the pressure but they have a know defect that causes them not to close and pour your all your oil out on the ground.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I traded my X5 in for an 07 x3. Hope I have better luck w/ this one. hope you have better luck w/ your X5 than i did.

I would take a look at the catalytic conv for the loss of power.

missed that it was a diesel

I don't know a damn thing about BMWs diesels but I don't think they ahve converters. The ticking noise is probably the valves as diesel engines have louder tappet noise than a gasline engine. As for the dead battery did you replace the battery with a BMW battery. If so do you have any aftermarket equipment installed in the vehicle? If so unplug them then see if the battery goes dead with them unplugged. If not do a paracitic draw test on the battery. you should have somewhere between 30 and 40 milliamps. As for the power loss I cannot help with that. What do you meen by stopping the car when the fan belt makes noise, turning the engine off? If its when you turn the engine off my cummins diesel does the same thing. It has to do with stopping so much moving mass with that much torque.

it's a bmw, great looking cars but many have problems. it's kind of sad really. you pay more for less reliability. cheap cars like honda civics and toyota corollas will outlast any bmw.

Not clue on what kinda of issues a Diesel has. I would start looking at the tensioner and idler pulleys for your noise tho.

About the dead battery, feel your blower resistor (it's on the right side/pass. side on left hand drive models in the US, not sure where it's at on yours) while you have the battery/x5 on a charger. If it's hot while your key is off then it's causing the battery drain. This is the most common cause of a battery draw on a BMWthat I've seen.

About the window, it probally lost initialzation when you turned the key off while operating the switch. It should easily reinitialize by pressing and holding the window switch up, while the window is completely close, for about 5 seconds. Then it should regain the auto/convience up and down feature.
