I have a 1999 528i. My headlights are on from the moment I turn the key. I'm not a big fan of this option. I looked into it a little bit. It's only the inner bulb that gets constant power from the moment the key is turned on. If I cut the wire, the beam will not work at all.
Can anyone tell me how to turn this feature off?
Thanks.

Take the car to your dealer and have them deselect the DRL preference option.

That's actually a saftey option and you can get a reduction in your insurance premium for that option too.

Daytime running lights have to be turned off by the dealer.

yes...DRLs have to be turned off using BMWs DIS or MoDiC units.
There is a whole list of car & key memory options...perhaps you should go thru the whole list and see if there are any other things you'd like to have turned off or on...its gonna cost you the same price to do one or all.
Click this link to see the list (its in PDF format): http://www.e38.org/B090398_Att2_CKMSet.PDF Please read the key at the top of the 1st page to see what all the symbols mean and which ones are available or apply to your model & year. :)

Yea, I figured that. There were 3 wires in my previous car, one that gave constant power and one that fed the low beam. That was much easier.
How much is a dealer going to charge for this?
