jrcook320 11-03-2006, 08:46 AM anyone have the rest of the pics of that car?

I don't know if I want supercharge. Though it would be quite nice.:cool

waferman 11-04-2006, 09:26 PM Would you drive this daily? There are no air filters for the horns...your race setup would shorten the life of the engine by a lot! You would have to change your oil all the time...
-John
Madhatter 11-04-2006, 09:36 PM got a similar debacle, you can get foam filters that sit inside the stacks, but 1) they are known to pop out, and 2) they are a fire risk. Only solution we have been able to come up with is have a full plenum that you can unbolt the stacks, then fit up the plenum and airbox for normal driving etc. Just keep the stacks for a bit of show and fun :)
Sucking something back through the inlets would seriously suck when you have to rebuild your engine or your block is trashed because of it. :(
holdfastgreg 11-05-2006, 12:17 AM Volicity stacks have filters that also fit the outside diameter of the horn. You can also build a plenum and run a filter threw that.
kdanielson 11-05-2006, 12:35 AM Looks cool but those shorts stacks are about 5" too short... unless you are reving to 10,000rpm or so!
Air cleaners to fit over velocity stacks are not uncommon, sprint cars run them-Speedway Motors sells them.

They are a fire risk. What you end up having is a backfire through the intake will cause the filter to be ignited. Its a pain in the arse as it destroys filters, but also coats everything in sticky residue.

Thats not really true, it isnt that simple when tuning lengths. To give an idea on lengths you sit down and work out the pulse of the pressure wave in relation to cam timing and engine speed. You end up with a stupidly large distance, so what you do is take the distance and divide it by an even figure to shorten it. In the case of those without a plenum, longer thinner stacks help produce torque at lower engine speeds, shorter helps with horsepower higher in the rev range. The ones in the pic are far from short, i dont see how you can say he would need to rev to 10,000rpm for them to work.
holdfastgreg 11-05-2006, 12:48 AM Not really.
I've never seen a foam filter spark up off ITBs. Not to say it cant happen because I can see the risk. But most cars who have the should implement the right safety precausions
vtgti 11-05-2006, 03:34 PM So how much are these engines selling for?
waferman 11-05-2006, 04:30 PM Those foam filters that some race cars use are still not up to daily driving! Yes, the engine looks cool though. If you just put in a normal S50 from a 92-whatever E36 and use a CAI or keep its intake, you would still be quicker than snot!
Madhatter 11-05-2006, 05:43 PM Not really.

Ive seen it set fire to an engine bay, burnt a whole heap of his wiring :eyecrazy
They (being transport department) wont pass roadworthy here for registration because of that reason, so no driving on the street :(
holdfastgreg 11-05-2006, 06:03 PM Their legal where I live. But if your ignorant where you place it, its your fault.
BoostedE21 11-06-2006, 05:38 PM Looks good, what is the info on the motor?
BARRY E36 M325 11-06-2006, 05:56 PM Well, I don't know about the stacks, but the idea of this thread was the motor swap itself. An S50 or S52 is the plan that WILL be happening soon. I might go carbon airbox for the motor. But first, I just need the engine itself.
No I will not be driving this on the street after that. It will be STRICTLY track car.
I am not too sure of the specs on this particular car, but I know he did a full exhaust system, cams, intake system (obviously), and he has some drivetrain components...
2.8L(e21) 11-06-2006, 06:13 PM Is that an m50 or m52 I had a 96 m52 with 83k I tried to put in but it wasnt sitting right even after I put in the 6 cylnder subframe. I would have had to get a custom subframe and that was going to cost to much and take to long so I went with the greymarket 2.7L m20 instead.
BARRY E36 M325 11-06-2006, 08:17 PM M52. Probably out of an E36 323i. M50 didn't have a plastic valve cover, if I am correct.
holdfastgreg 11-06-2006, 08:37 PM Racing it where and what class? To put a motor in a car before you know any rules/regulations can be a disaster. Find out what your racing and what the specs are, than build the car to those specs.
Like myself, Im building the car to SCCA solo rules, modified. If I never race it, so be it, but the car will meet tech requirements.
BARRY E36 M325 11-06-2006, 08:42 PM It's gonna be a 1/4 mile car.
holdfastgreg 11-06-2006, 08:52 PM lame.
if you want a 1/4 mile car buy a supra or a rx7.
BARRY E36 M325 11-06-2006, 08:55 PM But see, everyone does that kinda stuff with those cars. What about E21's? Nope. So here I am.
BARRY E36 M325 11-06-2006, 08:56 PM For that silly remark, Greg, I am tempted to put in Nitrous.:stickoutt :stickoutt :stickoutt
blitzed310 11-06-2006, 11:20 PM Wouldnt that be a boring 14 sec car?
holdfastgreg 11-06-2006, 11:28 PM Wouldnt that be a boring 14 sec car?
HAHAHA
The suspension geometery isnt flattering for acceleration either. Just build a nice car and enjoy it for that. I'm not knocking what you want to do either.
