My wife wants an X5 and we can afford about 22K so I'm thinking an 01 or 02 3.0. Most likely with at least 65K miles. I currently own a Z3 so I'm familiar with BMW's but I'm scared to death of having to get a repair done to that all wheel drive system. Any advice from the club? :confused

The AWD,engine, and transmission should be pretty solid. The front suspension parts, CV joint boots, window regulators, and the small stuff is what you should budget on replacing. Try to get the latest model you can afford, preferably an 02 since alot of the issues seemed to have been ironed out by then.

get schedualed maintance rolled into your deal. if its still under maintance from BMW. you can extend it to 100k.....

same with the warranty. kinda like CPO.

You won't have to worry about the drivetrain. I've owned my X5 since new (02') and I have over 110k miles on it now. All I have done is change the oil every 5k miles, brakes a few times, tires, inspections, water pump, thermo etc. The only thing I had to go that was more expensive is the front axles. Other then that they're great SAV's. Good luck.
