So my mother was driving down the I-5 today (near Sea World Drive) when her right front tire blew out. Luckily she controlled the car and nothing serious happened. I drove down there to put on the spare and now the car has 2 new tires. It was a Continental Contisport Contact with about 50% life still on it. Check out the damage though  (Sorry for the cell phone pic)

She's not a very fast driver and said about ~70-75 mph.

Same thing happened to me with a Yoko ES-100, only I didn't loose the whole tire. It happens when you drive too long on the flat. For me, it was trying to get over 6 lanes on the 5 after it blew out.
I had less sidewall left and didn't damage my wheel, though :D

Yea, that must've been tough...those tires are too soft for an E46 to start with too. I had them on my E30, wasn't very impressed.

After talking to a friend who knows a bit more about tires, he informed that was a detread not a blowout. Similar to the Firestone issue. I'm e-mailing the image and story to Continental for fun.
