View Full Version : Stroker kits/builders?
xatlas0 11-01-2006, 01:17 PM Hello everyone.
My pops has an 06 MCS decked out in full JCW regalia. He is, like all boost junkies, craving more. Since he already has a pulley deal (part of the JCW stuff, only 9%, I think) he wants to bump up the displacemnt.
Any places that increase displacement? There is only so much 1.6L can realistically push while remaining reliable.
After having driven this car, I must say, it is a hoot. The thing will break front wheel traction without trying, and it is quite fun. The FWD kinda throws my balance off, though.
That said, I was rather suprised, as when I was taking my E9 (M30B35 with 265 trans, 3.45 diff, about 3000lbs even) to the body shop and merging on the highway, the MCS had a bit of trouble keeping up. Perhaps he was in the wrong gear or something?
MotoringSpeed 11-01-2006, 03:27 PM It's very unfortunate that the JCW S is weak. We've consistantly had dynos of JCW's NOT getting their claimed horsepower. I would love to see a built motor. That would be insane. How much does he want to push? What does he want to do with it? Just different software will give him about 12fwhp (which is insane).

He is used to a lot more torque, but he also knows that if he has too much more power, he will end up kissing a wall. He is more of an old-school hot rodder, so his biggest desire is displacement over other FI improvements.
I'd say he wants to stay around 300fwhp, as even that amount will cause a frightening amount of torque steer. To get him to that point, I showed him a German TS supercharger kit, but it was pretty pricey (~10k US) and he wanted to milk the warranty.
I haven't taken a MCS motor apart, so I don't know how tight the tolerances are currently. Had I to hazard a guess, I'd say there isn't much boring left to be done without compromising wall integrity, and overstroking would make the car overly vibration-ey. Thusly, additional displacement with this motor seems like a lost cause. It doesn't help that I can't get a straight answer as to the origin of the motor design, so I could see if there were any other, larger displacement, versions used in other vehicles. I have read that it is an Ecotec motor, a Mercedes motor, a Peugot motor, the thing seems to come from anywhere but BMW.
MotoringSpeed 11-03-2006, 10:52 AM It's a Mercedes powerplant. :) I will get you some links. Well, I might if I could post them.

It is another 2 or 7 posts, I don't remember which. Not much, though.
Let me guess, it is the engine used in the A-series?
MotoringSpeed 11-03-2006, 11:42 AM I'm not certain. I will look up some specs for you, though. I have often thought about boring out to 1.8 for just a little more oomph. There are allot cheaper options to start out with, though.
Timsmith 11-04-2006, 09:27 PM sounds like time for twin charging to me but anything extra you do to the engine or to force more air in it is going to void the warranty that he wants to milk.
RalphzMCS 11-06-2006, 10:40 AM good luck with the stroker kit project. i've heard of a small few (like maybe 1 or 2) that have successfully done it (.1-.2 increase) but i haven't heard what gains have been made.
pbraun 11-06-2006, 03:16 PM Ask Fireball Tim - http://www.fireballtim.com - built the currently fastest mini in the world, but stock block, rods, crank and head. Has not done any increased displacement........
Maybe others have........?????????????
Why not go with forced induction for an easier way to make big power ! ???

he already has a jcw mini cooper s so he already has a forced induction car :confused ...did you mean like up the boost with an even smaller pulley, twincharge, etc.?
pbraun 11-10-2006, 06:43 PM Sorry for delayed answer - I was thinking about turbocharging - twin charging...helix13 has a nice kit. Other tuners of interest : M7, Webb Motorsports, Stratmosphere, etc, etc....
