I just purchased a Final Stage Unit from them, price quoted on the online system was $67 but when I got there they wanted $98. Good thing they match their own website.

Just a recommendation when getting stuff from them, price it on their online system before going in.

BMW of Sterling sucks. Those bastards didn't help my mom and I a few years back for an entire 30mins but were quick to help this couple right when they walked in.....of course we had a salesman (who had been just sitting at his desk looking at us) run out after us when he saw us leave and climb into my mom's old car (s500)....take it for what you want....I'm still bitter...I flicked him off too...

Go to BMW of Towson instead for all/any of your needs :)

It pretty much is but its the closest place to me to get parts ... Very crappy service there and I heard lots of stories in these forums about shoddy work too.

Road Race Tech recommends them for some odd reason ...

As for Sterling... We deal with the Parts department most. I've heard mostly good things about them. I've also heard bad things about them but I also hear bad things about EVERY dealer. And good things, too, of course. It all depends on the moment/the person/the issue. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I usually take the masses opinion and go with it but that is me.

On another notion... The dealer in my opinion is good for two things, buying a new car and getting warranty work done. WHY in the world ANYONE would go to the dealer to buy parts is beyond me. You have places online and local places like us that sell dealer parts that DON'T mark up the retail price and in fact give discounts.

Second, WHY would ANYONE go to the dealer to get non warranty work done? There are plenty of places other than the dealer to get excellent BMW maintenance work done much cheaper.

Look, some people here do work for dealerships and it's how we support our families. It's a job like any other job. We don't set the prices. Our parts and labor prices are set by ownership and what the local market dictates.

PS. I know a lot of the techs, Parts Manager, Parts and Service Director and Owner of Sterling, all good folk.

Barry -

That may be true; but, you have to remember, say a person gets non-warranty work done at a hypothetical place called BRT. Now, BRT does great work, at a great price .. but, in this one instance, their mechanic accidentally forgets to tighten down the coolant cap. The coolant explodes over the engine, engine may seize up, etc ... and, now, is the dealership going to warranty the engine? of Course not ...

I know it's an extreme example; but, the whole point of buying a car under warranty is to avoid hassles. I know many people try to 'save' a few bucks here and there -- but, in all honesty, sometimes its worth biting the bullet and paying dealership prices. Plus, you build a relationship with the dealer. I goto BMW of Fairfax (BMW of Towson was TOOOOO far) ... and, yes, costs me more than going to a typical independent -- but, I built a fairly good relationship there. When car is out of warranty, it then goes to an independent mechanic ... You do not want to jeapordize your warranty IMHO over saving $30-100 bucks. It's not worth the risk.

If money was a concern, then the person should have probably bought a cheaper car instead. Just my thoughts.

James

p.s. -- this is getting way OT from original poster's comments.

p.p.s. -- original poster -- did they also give you the BMWCCA discount off the internet price?

I hear ya James, I worded that wrong. Gotta love the internet. What I meant was... When your car goes out of warranty, why would you go to the dealer? I.E. if you have an E36, E30, and some e46s or something like that.

Schosports... i'm all for the dealer. Never said I hated them. Well I take that back, there is one dealer that I just do not like. The owner doesn't even like BMWs, go figure... I've worked for two dealers. Another guy here worked for the dealer. We both liked the jobs. I know Sterlings Parts department makes most of their money on body shops and not so much on teh walk through customer. I'm no expert but I would also imaging the walk through customer would buy more clothing and gadgets. So once again I guess I should have said if you have an e30 M3, why would you go to the dealer to buy a cap and rotor when there is the thing called the web.

Yeah so back on topic now that I went way off.

Because by the time price your time to find the 'cheapest' place to buy it on the net and you pay shipping you would probably have gotten it cheaper by just going to Bill. ;)

I don't know where I can get GENUINE BMW parts other than a dealer.
And at 20% off real MSRP, that's not a bad deal.
I'd rather deal over the counter. I order a wrong part, they take it right back.

Back to dealers. There isn't one dealer that every person has been happy with.
It's all in the relationship you create. Same with indy shops.
