Courtesy of my Mexican Brother-in-Law who ponied up a lot of pesos for the privilege. Drives great, handles awesome. Needs more power, I would suggest a diesel. Actually, I would suggest the new GTI (but I didn't dare tell him that.) :D

Have you been around Cabo??? Its really nice and a lot of rich people live around there. In fact I wouldnt be a bit surprised if all of the poor people have moved out of mexico and its nothing but middle and upper class living there.

No way, it would be way to cost prohibitive. It doesn't meet US safety standards and would need to be modified, and it's price is super-inflated by tariffs. Believe it or not that car cost him the equivalent of $36,000 USD. Quite a pretty penny for a base model BMW. Good thing he's a good insurance salesman, eh?

There are plenty of cars in the world that we don't get here, and plenty here they don't get around the world. In the case of most European cars, this is because the automakers would rather build and real-world test in Europe to work out the kinks before releasing to a fickle American (myself included) buying public. That wasn't the case, for example, when Mercedes built their first SUV. No one wanted SUVs in Europe, so they built and released them here without testing back in 1997. It was a complete disaster in terms of problems per unit, one which MBZ is still reeling from.

No tmean at all. For the record, I've never, ever seen a late model 5, 6 or a 7 Series in Mexico, with Mexican plates. I think I saw a 3 series once. There is a dealership in Hermosillo (Google Earth) where he bought it, and I plan on taking my new-to-me 7 down there for inspections. The techs were trained in Germany, but don't charge nearly as much.

He bought the auto because it's his mobile office. ;)

It would be like that, but alas, the middle and upper class of Mexico need gardeners too.

Ya I just came home from Cancun and there were so many of those around! I think they are pretty nice. Especially the 130i with 258hp! Can't go wrong with that.

I read they will be brining it to Canada mid 2007.

Not everyone in Mexico lives in adobe houses and takes siestas all day. Not even close. You're watching too many Speedy Gonzales cartoons :stickoutt There's a middle and upper class there, just like in every other major country in the world.
