This happened a while ago but I figured I would share it anyway.

I was in my 1984 533i. It was 2am and I was on my way home to meet some friends back at my house. I was going a little over the speed limit (35mph) because I was late. Way off in the distance behind me I saw headlights and they looked like they were moving at a high rate of speed. I slowed down to 30 just in case it was a cop. I didn’t need another speeding ticket. As it got closer I realized it was not a cop. But I still couldn’t tell what kind of car it was. The car came right up to my back bumper and rode my ass for a good 30 seconds and I was starting to get annoyed. I was just about to jack on the brakes when he started to pass me. He pulled up next to me. It was a kid in a black 3000GT. He pointed at my car and gave me the thumbs down then he flipped me off as he pulled ahead of me. I took it kind of personally that he made fun of my car and me. I caught up to him and started riding his ass. We were going about 40mph. After a few seconds I pulled up next to him and flipped him off.

He dropped it down a gear and punched it. I punched it but I was in third so he got a better start than me. I dropped it down to second but he already gained 2 CLs. No big deal. By the time I was redlining 2nd, I had already taken back a CL. I went into 3rd gear and I was gaining on him. By the time I was redlining 3rd we were dead even. My windows were down and I could hear the exhaust note of my tri-flo exhaust bouncing off his car. It was loud and sounded mean. I went into 4th gear and started pulling on him. I had 2 CLs on him by redline. I went into 5th and had 4-5 CLs on him by 130 mph.

I let off and slowed down to about 50mph. The 3000GT did a ricer fly-by and took off.

This was my first kill with the 533. My 533 may not be the nicest looking car in the world but i can hold its own.

Just thought I would share.

Cliffs:
533i - 5 speed, tri-flo exhaust, intake, and shrick cam
3000GT - NON VR4 (woulda raped me if it as), 5 speed, exhaust and I dont know what else.

This story is old, it happened before my 533i died.

I paced a 533i on a bridge yesterday. He was a ways ahead and I was just curious about power in the old sled, so I throttled up enough to keep the same distance.

It wasn't that bad at all. I was close to squeezing full throttle (I didn't gear down). With a few mods, I'm sure it could more than hold it's own on the freeway.

533i were the fastest production cars imported by bmw at the time, they are pretty quick

If you put your post to music, it would be a Beach Boys song.

I'm pretty sure that non vr4 3000gt's make 222 hp. The killer is that they weigh 3800 lbs!

Yeah the non VR4s are actually 230hp but not bad though. The 3000GT VR4s from 1991-1994 are at 300hp & 95 & up are at 320hp, they actually run dead even with EVOs actually, even though they're heavier but they have horsepower.

Since nobody here seems to know what they are talking about.

The 3000GT N/A is 222hp for the DOHC model and 167hp for the SOHC model. They weigh anywhere from 3100-3300 pounds, not 3800 for whoever mentioned that. The Turbo models were 300 hp from 91-93 and 320 from 94-99 they weighed anywere from 3500-3700 the VR4 Spyder was available in 94-95 and they weighed around 3800.

>>>This was my first kill with the 533. My 533 may not be the nicest looking car in the world but i can hold its own. <<<

I like the looks of the e28 a lot. Your story makes me miss my 1985 535i. It was sharked, cold air intake, M5 wheels. In bronzit, it was a really innocuous looking sleeper. I surprised a lot of guys in it. As it aged though, it just kept getting more and more tempermental, and my wallet just couldn't keep up with it. But still, I miss that car... *sigh*

Just for old time's sake, I have to tell my favorite kill from that car. This was sometime in 2001. I pull up to the redlight on the highway, about one mile from home. A Z28 of about the same vintage as my car comes up behind me in the same lane but smartasses me. (ie:whips into the other lane very dramatically, as though to say "I'm not getting stuck behind you...") It was that ubiquitous blue/green that most Camaros of that era seem to be. Mullet boy (literally) grins at me with both of his teeth and torque brakes his Waffle House cruiser. I smile and nod and wait for the green light. Bubba Ray is revving his V8 for all it's worth. I save my pedal work for the green light. First gear, I'm pulling on him from the start. Second gear? It's all over. I slow down and wave him to come up by me and go again. He turns off. OWNED! :)

I had plenty more fun with that car, but that was my first kill in it and will always be my favorite.

The limited slip locked so no matter what, my back wheels went the same speed...even in turns. At the time, I didnt realize the damage it would do over time so I just kept driving it not realizing what I was doing. One day, I took a long sweeping turn fast and I just heard a clunk and the back of the car shifted. It got me home but just barely. I had ripped the diff mounts out. The guy that came to look at it couldnt believe I made it home. I was like, "of course it got me home, its a BMW".

Anyway, the car sat for a while as I pondered what to do with it. Then one day, I went to go start it and move it to keep parts from freezing up but it was too late...it was stuck in first gear. Then not too long after that, I went outside to go start it and it just wouldnt fire up. And I couldnt figure out what the problem was. So I decided to cut my losses. I took off the parts I wanted and let other e28 owners come take whatever they needed off it. Then.....noone wanted what was left.....so it went to the junk yard.

I look at it like this: I had my fun with it. I got my moneys worth out of it. And I have great memories! Plus, I know a few e28s are still running because they were fixed using the parts I donated to them.

Spoken like someone who's never ridden in a well-maintained old car. E28s aren't fast by modern standards, but if you haven't heard the sound of an E28 M5 at 7k rpm, you don't know what BMWs are about. My 535is has 260k miles on it, one M5 is over 200k and the other is at 184k. The "younger" M5 has a fresh motor, but they all just run and run and run ... and they can certainly hold their own on street or track.
