Hey Guys,

Ive been looking around but not been very successfull in regards in finding second hand front and rear m3 bars for my car, anyone know or have one they wanna sell cheers:eyes1

hey fred, hows it going man?

i gave up my search on finding M3 bumpers long ago!!
there is basically nothing genuine available second hand :(
you could by brand new from the dealership if you wanted to though!

if you cant find any M3 bumpers just getting a nice add on front lip.. there are heaps of types out there.. and thats what im going to end up doing with my car.
tcca is doing a special on their 2 last remaining rieger cup spoilers..

i suppose you could buy nico's M3 front bumper but you will need to get it plastic welded, buy some new mouldings and will have to get it sprayed and fitted on top of that..

Hey Aaran,

Didnt you buy a M Tehnic Front bar for your car from Paramatta Prestige man, for peanuts???

Listen dude how much they want for that front lip at reiger, and do you have a pic of it somewhere??

Aaron318is

the bumper i got was cheap as..
you already have an m technic bumper dont you?
i have the same bumper as you do now and i got told thats whats its called?
im confused now.. :95

anyway, when i went down with nico to pick up his coils milan quoted me $400 for the rieger which is pretty cheap as it was old stock and only had 2 of them left..

It's manual but originally it was auto. However, got it changed for the turbo conversion.

From Sydney's north-west.

Hey Blown,

Your car is awesome i think ive seen you driving around...:) If you dont mind me asking how much did it cost to get the Turbo conversion done??

Another thing i think im going to need to change my front rotor on my car, wheres a good place to go to get slotted ones done..?? and how much you reckon im looking at?

Do you have standard brakes on your bm, or modified, if standard have you noticed a difference in braking with the slotted rotors????

Cheers Dude for you help.. Regards Fred

PS whats your first name dude:redspot

hey fred - for the 318i you can get the dba cross drilled and slotted discs which are pretty cheap (cash strapped at the time :( ) i have them on my car..

if you plan on tracking your car save your $$ and get something of a better quality like brembo etc.
the dba's are only suitable for street usage basically..

i think allen has ap racing? very cool :) :buttrock

Hey Aaron,

Listen dude, tell me how much did your ones cost per disc, further more your running stock brakes hey, did you notice a diffence in braking when you put the new disc in????

Hey dude where did you get it done?

Aaron318is
01-21-2003, 05:40 AM
fred -

the front's cost around $240 per disc.. rears were around $280 per disk.. you might as well go right around? going off memory..

then on top of that you may have to buy brake pads..

apart from that the only other change was some better pads which make less dust and that about rounds it off in the brake department..though i *may* be inheriting a set of E36 M3 calipers from a certain convertible.. :)

as for braking performance it did feel better, much stronger.. but
nothing that will throw you into the windscreen! hehe

mechanic says the pads would probably made a bigger difference than the disks though?

i thought it was a nice upgrade over standard :)

btw when are we going to see some rings in your headlights?? :95

Hey Aaron,

Ive ordered the Angel eyes already, its just a matter of time until Nico receives em. i decided to go with the LED ones due to that i will probably have it wired so that when i switch of the car, i will have a switch in the car that will just turn on the parking lights.

In a matter of fact would you have any idea how to do it.???

My cars going into the workshop the thursday to get the brakes and the rotors checked due to that the steering wheel shakes when i break so we think the break rotors are warped.... thats why i was asking you about the brake discs due to that i might need new ones, and im contemplating which ones i should get the stock ones or slotted ones from somewhere, but in the end it just depends how much $$$ it costs!

You did not answer my question in regards to upon where you got the installation done of the discs, where youhappy with the way they did it for you... etc...

In regards to the conversation that you and i had previously about the body kits and you said you had the same one as mine, ive the the same one as you have atm the one you cracked i mean... is that an M-Technic one????

I dont think so dude, i think the M-TECHNIC is the same one that Raima has on his car dude! BTW have you installed it yet, i would love to see how it looks, cuz your car looks ace dude, i love the wheels dude they go off...

When i get my eyes put in, im prolly gonna detail the car, and then we should get all the fellas one night and go for a cruise....the Angel Eye Boys hahahahahaha

Anyways dude, cheers !!

LED versions should be much better! i wouldnt mind a set myself!

they get that mad blue/white light.. though then new generation DDE kits coming out soon are rumoured to be extremely bright also, especially during the day!

not sure about the wiring and how you would switch the car off and still have power for the lights, you would need to find a wire that is "live" all of the time i guess.. speak to a sparky..

why not just go through the parkers? thats what they are meant to replace..
maybe babbo might be able to help as he had his wired nicely so they only come on with the fogs..

as for the disks, i ordered mine through race brakes at wetheril park, make sure you specify 318i, though you could go for 318is/320i disks which are marginally larger?

i got them installed by a family friend who is an nrma road service guy, he seems to know what he was doing and i dont have any gripes about the installation! good job! :)

the guy i bought the bumper off was bull shitting me i think, its just another variation of the bumpers that was around at the time..
the bumper's going on over the long weekend, as are the mirrors and eyelids and the grey is getting colour coded to green also!
the wheels are ok, was going to change at one time, getting too common and theyre a bitch to clean hehe

cruise and a chance to catch up is a good idea :)

oops - sorry I didn't reply earlier

Contrary to what Aaron said :nono I have yet to upgrade my brakes but hopefully I'll do that this year soon.

For a comprehensive turbo conversion like mine, MrBLonde (Turbo M-Coupe) and others see here (http://www.bavariacars.com.au) you will be talking $$$$$ - count the characters :b_blue:

First name is Allen.

Where you seen me? BTW I go to Sydney Uni

oops, my wrong allen! :(

fred comes down to what you want to spend and what you use the car for!

also depends on how power you want in the future ;)

MrBlonde

Fred:

My suggestion would be to enjoy your car as it is. If/when you are ready for more performance, move up to a 6 cylinder platform to get the most out of your spend.

For brake conversions you shoulf talk to Erik at Bavariacars (www.bavariacars.com.au) since he is the gun!

Were they....warped??? :astromile :stickoutt
So im guessing bedding the brakes in was the problem :)
I should post this on DTM hey hahaha :alright

I agree with MrBlonde's suggestion should you go in search of a substantial power gain. Just keep your car as it is and save up for a different car if you want real power. Starting off with a N/A 4-cylinder BMW is the hard way to make power.

I recal someone telling me that it was all a load of crap.. discs warping.. BAH...

No no no... have you been paying attention at all?
now sit up straight, before you get a detention :nono
If they were in fact "warped", resurfacing the discs may have been possible. However youll probably find they were replaced because the pads were not bedded in properly, and resulted a change at a molecular level (by the heat), changing the properties for the base iron to a harder material (cemenite), that does not wear at the same rate as the original material...
After a few thousand kms if you check the surface, what will you see? You'll see a variation in the surface height.
Is this warpage? No. It's uneven wear of the surface of the rotor. If you resurface this rotor, will the surface again be true? Yes. Will it stay true? No. The reason? The change in the properties of the iron in the location of the previous uneven heat exposure goes deeper than the amount of material removed in the machining process. So as the rotor starts to wear again, it will wear unevenly, just like it did when you thought it "warped" the first time. Did you even read the articles i posted on DTM? I guess reading and understanding are not the same thing... :dunno
Check-Mate, mr. potatohead...

Adam... ;)

As you can probably tell now, my first post was sarcastic
