View Full Version : Favorite Wheels and Tires Thread
jjgbmw323 10-29-2006, 09:49 AM Ok. We have had a lot of discussion about stuff like getting high, or killing animals. Getting back to our cars, I thought this thread would be a way to share our likes about running gear on the e21 BMW.
So what are your favorite rims and tires, that either you are running now or have plans to put on your car. It can be any size width or make, the most common are 15 x7s..and you can include tires, bolt patterns if not 4x100, pictures, rolled fenders etc.
1) Alpina
2) BBS - from 1 piece to 3 piece
3) Hardy & Beck
4) Your choice
I have ancient p7s 195 50 15s and been thinking about the Kumhos in 205 50 15s...
silverfbimmer 10-29-2006, 10:06 AM Lets get some good pictures going here!
jrcook320 10-29-2006, 10:12 AM I like my rims best cause I've never seen them anywhere else. They're 15x7 ET35 Adoro wheels, made in Brazil. I can't find any info on the the company. Of course I have to run 20mm spacers and lug studs but that doesn't bother me. If I didn't have these I'd say Alpina. I'm over due for tires and was going buy kuhmo escta 712's this spring but either they stopped making 205/50r15's or Tirerack doesn't carry that size. I guess I'll have to go with the stickier escta mx. Pics:

blitzed310 10-29-2006, 02:25 PM BBS RA's and H&B's look so damn good. I wanted to steal Jeff's wheels last year, talk about a perfect set of wheels.
Alpina's are cool too.
Since no one knows what they look like:

BaronOfIpanema 10-29-2006, 02:45 PM I put in a vote for BBS (especially the RAs) but it could just as easily gone to Alpina. BTW those Adoros are very nice. When I'm in Brazil next month I will check them out.

Wow C.J.
I take that as a huge compliment and I will get some better wheel locks!!
I have always loved the Hardy&Beck centers, I just used them with 16" BBS rim halves, and 225 and 215 tires. Back in the day there was'nt 40 series tires (50's were as cool as it got) or we might have made them that way to start....

Al Canuck 10-29-2006, 11:13 PM Jeff,
Your car is a HUGE inspiration for me, and my 323i. Absolutely outstanding every time I see it. If it's not too much to ask, could you email me some more pics? Under hood, under car, interior, exterior, whatever? I've finally started some serious reassembly of mine, and I'm trying to view as many 323i's as possible, to keep me inspired, and also to refresh my memory on how they go together! I can build an 02 in my sleep, but this is my first E21 resto.
Al
Well, Thanks Al, Your project is shaping up nicly, and your interior will be next to none, I have seen your work, outstanding....
This all means alot to me cuse you all ARE the E21 connoisseur's..
I am asked why I put duel exhaust on the car, often!! Like those persons know anything.
I will put some pics. together for you Al.

Madhatter 10-30-2006, 05:12 AM They phased out 712's, kumho dont make them anymore, replaced them with SPT (KU31's).
Another vote for alpina's, with a bit of tyre on them, the 16's look even fatter under the E21 guards.

Does anyone have a picture of ATS Classic's on an e21? I have seen them on 2002's and I think they would look good on an e21.

E21Craze 10-30-2006, 08:47 AM I voted to BBS's, as in Al's car.
As for tyres, I kinda like the A539's I have on my E21. Sticky as hell, but somewhat progressive as they reach the limit.

No, its windy's. I saw the original pic of it and had an idea to drop it, on 15's with dual tips like a 323i. The image is photochopped, original car sat higher (think it was before windy did his suspension stuff) and the wheels werent as big.
Boosted20th2886 10-30-2006, 11:30 PM One of the things that has been catching on more with the older VW crowd, as in the mkI-mkIII golfs and jettas are widening the factory steel wheels. They actually look pretty good in most cases. I wish i could find a picture of them....

Nice wheels gents.
rjk3rd320is 11-01-2006, 03:22 AM any tips on cleaning your wheels? sounds like a silly question but my front wheels are soooo dirty, rust, mostly caked on brake dust from riding on crappy brakes for over a month (until they completely blew out on me while i was driving) but ive tried so much to get them looking brand new again and nothing as worked. any ideas?
Madhatter 11-01-2006, 04:37 AM spray some degreaser on them, then hit them with a gerni. Works everytime.
rjk3rd320is 11-01-2006, 02:09 PM whats a gerni? a hose? lol. i was going to use my dads pressurewasher on them but the motor on that blew out so i have no luck there. also im good friends with the owner of a detailing shop at a car dealership, he cleaned them before but they still had some dirt on them. after the brake fiasco i havent gone back in thinking that it wouldnt be any better.

BLING BLAO!
I decided to roll on my uber rare Exims instead and I really don't need a set of $1,500 wheels collecting dust in my garage. Now the wheels are NOT perfect or else they would be on here for more than double of what im asking. I've numbered/arrowed the 2 areas that need work. Now they do not affect the functionality of the wheels but need to be fixed if you want a 100% SHOW QUALITY set. I'm also including an extra polished lip, "BBS Design" center cap tool(rare), 2 plastic center screw-in sections, and 2 logo caps.
I'm asking $895. I'm willing to ship at buyer's expense. Paypal verified, money orders, and cash(local pickup) accepted. Located in Riverside, CA.
Now for the specs and pics.....

I won't be ready for new wheels for a while, but I am torn between the BBS style wheels, and the Alpinas. I like both for different reason, but I am leaning towards the Alpinas because they don't stand out as much, because I'm afraid of something happening to them.
