I started my car today and I noticed that after running for a few minutes it was spitting oil out the muffler. What does this mean? Are the piston rings shot? Its not my dd so it isn't too much of a big deal, but I would like to fix it sometime this winter.

Thanks

 Was it wet oil, dripping from the muffler, or black crap spraying on the pavement and drying? If the latter, thats just carbon. You might be a little rich. If the former, your muffler bearings are worn:D

I have never seen engine oil dripping from a muffler...

You know what now that you mention it I don't recall it being wet, so you are probably right about the carbon.

I will also try to replace my muffler bearings when I get time!!!! LOL

It was my Houpty GT (1986 Audi Coupe GT) which I had turbocharged. The oil would leak from the seals in the turbo into the exhaust manifold. Once the exhaust would heat up it would burn up all the oil and smoke like a bitch. Of course this was when it just had straight pipe so a muffler and cat would make it a little harder to leak out before it heats up and burns off.
