View Full Version : racetracks in or around nyc? yotone 12-19-2002, 12:28 AM anyone know of any tracks to take a car on? sardil 12-19-2002, 01:12 AM Watkins-Glen and Lime Rock are decently close. I hear they're almost done with the road track at Englishtown...any one got any news on that? Stylin 12-19-2002, 01:48 AM I was on the track at Englishtown for the photoshoot with PerformanceBMW in April and the track was nearly completed then.. Its gotta be finished by next season.. now thats gotta be pretty cool to run on! dngo 12-19-2002, 01:58 AM The track is nice and seems like it would be a lot of fun to drive on, but it doesn't seem very well suited to DEs. There's not a lot of runoff and there are places where the track folds over on itself. That would make it kind of exciting if a car slid off its side of the track and met another car going the other way. The mini-corkscrew is pretty cool, as is the banked part. :) Dave Bill 12-19-2002, 02:09 AM I need to goto E town ........ I know it was closed, but heard rumors of a new course being built out there. Any thing more than rumors? flyinh 12-22-2002, 06:59 PM there was supposedly a track to open in calverton(nascar oval track, along with a dirt bike track and a 1/4 mile strip),but i heard that is falling through.the track in bridgehampton is actually still there.but they took out sections of it so people can't use it,not to mention the ingrown grass.but i heard that some local porsche clubs are fighting to get bridgehampton back up and running. G.J. Dixon 12-22-2002, 07:08 PM Lime Rock is about 2 hrs north of Manhattan Pocono Raceway is about 2.5 hrs west of Manhattan Summit Point, WV is about 5.5 hrs south of Manhattan Watkins Glen is about 6 hrs north of Manhattan E-town will never have cars on it. They were stupid and didn't consult officials on how to build a road course. The track was not built to the necessary standards for Auto Racing. There is however the possiblity of it becoming a SOLO 1 course, but that's still pretty far from happening. Like someone said it will probably just be for go-karts. Bridgehampton is dead at the moment, it was partially turned into a Golf Course, then everything was put on hold, when they realized the track was built on a watershead, and they don't want all the chemicals from maintaining the golf course to get in there. So at the moment, everyone is fighting against the golf course. There is a slim possibility that the Race Track may be rebuilt. The Town Mayor or some hi ranking official out there is a real car fan and is looking to see what can be done about bringing the track back to life. As of now, part of the track is gone and has been dug up, but most of the track is still there. There have been no buildings built on the track. Dan 12-22-2002, 09:55 PM If you want to auto-x the next season is only a couple of more months away: www.nasanortheast.org I'm a quasi staff member and we have lots of fun and lots of BMW's there. Usually whenever a new model comes out, there's bound to be one there; the M5's were there right after the release a couple of years ago and the M3's that was re-introduced, there were 3 of them at the event the first weekend it came out. Oh, Englishtown, they got in a lot of poop when they built that track. Apparently the owner thought "it's my land and i can build whatever i want" so he built the track. Local town officials found this out when they drove by and shut it down saying he didn't get the paperwork done to allow the construction/zoning of a track like that there. blah blah blah... Englishtown blows anyways. You get too many rice boys and thugs there. No class and just basically annoying young, dumb, full of cum idiots; at least that's my experience. G.J.
