I have a 2003 Z4 and wonder if there are any kits available to ale the current side mirrors to a folding mechanism - would appreciate your help

it may cost less for non M Z's, i'm not sure. there may or may not be sofware issues related to your car. you can email bmw germany to find out about part numbers.

not really a novelty when u consider how easy your mirrors can get jacked

try parking in souther cali public lots. 95% SUV's and out of those 89% driven by soccer moms with a boat load of 5-9 year old opening the passenger doors. get the picture? this is how it works....
( soccer mom + suv * 5 yo's ) / public lots = jacked exterior side mirrors

I agree that I'd like folding mirrors....but I can't imagine parking close enough to anyone such that my mirrors would get whacked...that close is close enough for my car to get dinged too - which is TOO CLOSE.

our parking lots were built b4 the SUV tax-write off era. park slots are about 1/3 of the width of a hummer. so you can park as far away as you'd like, when that hummer or suburban pulls in they're right up you're arsh. and yea i can fold'em in by walking around the car all the time, but it'd be nice if it was part of the packg as in europe. and yes they've been nick'd a couple of times already in the lots.

Ok - I admit, I take my other cars to places where parking is gonna' be tight for the reasons you cite. And I would be folding them up every time if I could do it at the push of a button!
