I'm around in Michigan. I'll be going back to Chicago in January. The west Michigan guys should make a trip out for one of our chicago meets. We usually get a great turnout. A lot of great guys.

We did arrange a meet in Birmingham last year. The man in charge posted as Dupahead with a yellow M3. I'm originally from southeast Michigan.

The tranny is working great. You guys did a great job with it, and for a great price! It's to bad you're all the way across the state.

MotorcityM3,

Did you notice any power gain after you installed the track pipe? What else do you have done to your M3?
I'm still waiting to install my track pipe, I'll be running it with a cam set up so I'm hoping to see alot more power.

Hey Deez. Sorry, but I sold the exhaust to a guy in SC and broke even on the deal.
I'm in-process on my turbo kit. Should be finished and tuned in the next 3 months.
I'm going to do an "EMC Stage1" and hopefully price it right around $5500 or less.
It's about time the BMW community got a price break.
Stage2 in which I plan to challenge the AA Stage2, BUT with Geddy Profec B boost controller, and full turbo exhaust +extras should be about $7500.
Everything will be stainless steel with aluminum piping.

Anyways...we should have a gathering once this weather clears up and the salt is off the road. I need to get the 330ti out and smoke the tires again.

My "M332i" is a 325i sedan with OBD1 3.2 liter engine (euro hfm, 24lb injectors, intake, no cats, etc.). I had a 97 M3 from which I swaped in the entire driveline, steering, and suspension including all subframes and brakes. I've got H&R coilovers on it right now, but will put in my bilstein coilovers this summer. I've also got vader seats, which make the car look pretty different on the inside. I've got so many other things done to the car. Tubular MSR sway bars, Ground control links, stainless lines, euro rotors, momo runner steering wheel, some of UUC and AA stuff.....

...and most importantly of all...my turbo kit will be on the car shortly. It's been a long time in the making, but its getting closer to being done.

The 330ti is a all out off road/on road rally car.

www.us131motorsportspark.com in Martin MI has a nice drag strip i went to last summer. Test and Tune on wed and fri nights from 6pm until dark for $15. usually got about 3 or 4 runs in, but i always showed up late. so yea just make a date where y'all go down to martin which is about 20 min from GR. test and tune starts in may.

Sorry for not replying earlier Ken. I was in D.C. for the weekend.
We can do your brakes this week if you want.

MikeM3Fan, so long as you don't mind helping, we can have your coilovers dine in a Saturday morning. They arent' all that difficult and will only require a front end alignment when you are done. Half the time I don't even bother with that....

If anyone else needs a hand. I'm willing to help out. It gets me motivated to work on my own projects.

Dmitriy, I've just got a garage and plenty of tools. Where I work, we have lifts, but its not usually worth my hassle to bring a car in and work on it.

Everything and anything that can be done on our cars is doable with air tools, jack stands, jacks, engine stand, and a "cherry picker". Motors, trannys, subframes.... Ask me how I know. :)

Well... guess what guys... got my Dakar M3 yesterday - it's beautiful and I love it - no dings/scratches - better than I expected. Remember, I didn't have a chance to look at the car before buying it - I know, big risk, but it was from a very reputable dealership and came with 1 month/1000 mile warranty. Anyway, I am glad it has met my expectations.

One thing I expected - from reading all the messages regarding the "sticking" 5th gear (the shifter sticking under 5th) - problem is starting to develop in this car. It sticks, but returns back to the central position with a very little push - basically the dealer selling the car, told me that it's doing it, but it's not really a problem and they all do that. I am pretty certain it's a piston/spring problem described in February Roundel. It should be a pretty easy fix from the sound of it. However, it might be very tough to get access there - very little room to work and difficult to get hands in there.

So, it sounds like this is the only problem. Eric, maybe we can take a look at it in the next couple of months? :)

By the way, judging from your signature (95 330ti, 95 M332i) it does sound like you can do a lot of things in the home garage...

I did a short shift install in my 325 in my sister's garage - and it wasn't a very nice experience - took about 4 hours and many beers.

Dmitriy

No problem Dmitriy. I am working with Ken (MotorcityM3) to finish up his brakes tonight. You ought to see Ken's car sometime. that guy has almost everything possible done to his car. It's the most built NA engine I've seen in a BMW. With pretty bad tuning, he beat my 332i by 25 rear wheel horsepower last time we went to the dyno.

All that should change once my turbo kit is finished and tuned!

We take most of the work away from the Porsche and Rover dealers around here.

Wow, I had no idea there were so many BMW enthusiasts in this area.

I purchased a 99 M3 and picked it up in Myrtle Beach over Valentine's day weekend. I am not getting into the mods by selling just about everything I own on eBay:awink:

I live in Brighton and work in Southfield. I have only seen one other E36 M3 in this area, a black one in Novi. It is nice to know there are others, but also nice to know that they aren't on every streetcorner light some cars (vettes come to mind).

Are you serious about potentially helping with mechanical projects? I recently purchased a UUC SSK, but after reading about the "bitch clip" put off the install until I could get some help. I don't want to tear apart the car and not be able to finish the job. Do you accept payment in beer? Also on my "to install" list are E46 RSM's and an aluminum thermostat housing.

I am pretty mechanically inclined, but lack alot of tools necessary to complete some of the more in-depth projects.

I would be very interested in a local meet if you guys get something together. Lansing would be very convenient for me, but I am willing to drive.

psychocandy, I drive to work to Southfield from Ann Arbor every day - 1999 Dakar M3... you I've seen some other M3s on the road - but not a lot. Where in Southfield do you work? I am right on Northwestern Hwy/Inkster.

Funny, I just returned tonight from the Dentfest in Columbus and saw a Dakar yellow M3 (E36) drive by my house (Brighton). It's the first M3 I have seen in my town. Darn! Thought I might be the only one. For the record, I love the Dakar yellow color and sometimes wish I would have held out for one. Very unique.

Anyway, I work just East of the Blue Cross bldg around Inkster/11 mile. Maybe we could do lunch sometime, that is pretty close.

I seem to see more E46's than E36's in the Detroit area oddly enough.

Dima
04-21-2003, 11:01 PM
Yep, that's pretty close. Maybe we can all meet up at the local meet.... I am thinking I might need Eric's help (if he is still offering it) in installation of SSK and new shocks (probably Koni's)...

So how was Dentfest? What kind of numbers you guys got on the dyno?

By the way, since all of you guys are from Michigan... anyone here having problems with "Shifter hangs under 5th gear when cold"? I am having a little battle with AutoStrasse in Ann Arbor about this issue (my car is CPO) and they are being major aholes about the whole thing - saying they have never heard of the problem, that "maybe it's the way it's supposed to be" and "we should have BMW rep come out and look at it"... maybe if someone else having similar problems, and you guys show up there, talk to the service manager - they will be easier to deal with. At the same time you might get yours fixed (so BMW rep can look at both cars at the same time).

Let me know at dkatsman@umich.edu if any of you have this issue and would be interested in taking their car to Autostrasse in Ann Arbor for them to look at.

EMC
04-21-2003, 11:30 PM
psychocandy...beer is the universal currency. You need to get under the car with those shift kits, but that bitch clip isn't a big deal. You just buy a new one for a few dollars so you can pry the old one out and bend/break it. That is by far the easiest way to go. I should have my engine and transmision out of the 330ti next week, so you can see how the whole set up works.

Dima, I'll give you a hand if you know what it is that you need. I've got that Bimmer magazine article about the transmission fix around here somewhere.

MikeM3Fan, I think that you would be pretty happy with the cup kit. 2.1 inch drop in the front is pretty good and should fit with your wheels no problem. At the very worst, you would need 10 or 15mm spacers up front. I needed a set of 10mm spacers when I put my H&R coilovers on. I'll be replacing them with a set of bilstein group N coilovers I've bought in the next month or two.

Sorry that I've taken a few days to respond. As the weather gets better, I spend more time in the garage and less time online.

PM me if anyone needs anything "urgent".

OH YEAH! I'm also up for going to the Windsor "Ballet" this summer.

Dima
04-21-2003, 11:39 PM
Eric, I have the article also... but since my car is still under CPO warranty, I want to get dealership to do the tranny swap while I can... I was just hoping that someone around here must be having the same problem... maybe that can even help those who are out of warranty - maybe if BMW rep comes out and looks at 2-3 M3s with the same problem, it will be possible to arrange BMW to pay 50% or something like that.

However, I think I will be ordering Koni shocks and SSK from either UUC or Rogue that I will have to install over the summer.

By the way, would anyone from this area be interested in Koni shock setup? Normal price pretty much everywhere is $580-600. Guys at shox.com are willing to sell 2 sets of adjustable Koni shocks for M3, that will ship to the same address for $465/each shipped. So, if anyone is interested - let me know and we will work out the way to order them. Normal price at shox.com is $588 shipped.

EMC
04-22-2003, 08:27 AM
None of my cars have the trans problem. The dealership should cover the transmission if that is the case. If not, try going to Erhard BMW. I don't think that they will have a problem with the warranty work.

BMW should back you up on this...otherwise, what is the selling point behind the CPO?

Dima
04-22-2003, 09:06 AM
Ok, Erhard will be the next stop. Someone told me, however, that Erhard is even worse and their service is really bad. It's not such a big issue - but since I started it, I think I should get it done.

Hey guys...

anybody know who might need an excellent condition 93 325is? The car is literally perfect - nothing wrong with it. 104K miles. Leather is perfect, paint is like new... engine and tranny runs like it's 10K miles not 100K. I have a bunch of pix at http://bmw.mestnet.org. The car is loaded with every possible option, including Sport Package and Limited-Slip Differential. I just bought an M3 and that's the only reason for selling this car.

Any questions - email me at dkatsman@umich.edu or call (734)262-0479. I'd rather sell locally and to a BMW enthusiast - I haven't even posted an ad in newspaper yet.

If you guys know anyone interested, let me know. The car is great and I wouldn't lie about it to another BMW fan.

If either of my cars are ready, I'll be there. I lived in East Lansing and worked in Lansing for a couple years. So much fun in E.L!

My right front brake caliper is sticking when it gets hot and I need a new one. I went to the dealer yesterday and they want $600 to fix it  .

Do any of you guys have a used brake setup off of your 325's or M3's that you want to get rid of?

EMC - Do you still have your original 318ti brakes?

Hey I'm in SE MI, Farmington Hills. I just purchased a 2000 528i, 5 speed, Blck on Blck.

Let me know when you guys wanna have a meet!

Sorry, I don't have any of my original brakes, but I'm sure that you can get a almost new caliper for $50 or so from Body Werks in Detroit (888)379-2640. If you speak with Chris, tell him that Eric with the rally car refered you. I need to start getting some credit for the business I send to him.

I live about 6 miles from that place, and can put it on and bleed the brakes for you if needed.

Another option is bimmerparts.com and buying a new one for maybe $100 or so. The install offer still stands with Chris' stuff at Zygmunt.
Let me know,
Eric

Thanks a lot Eric! I'll give your guy Chris a call and try bimmerparts too. Are there any days you are free to work on it next week??

P.S. - I've been dying to check out your ti.

Hey Eric,

so you think we could try to install my front Koni's sometimes in the near future? I installed the rear ones in my apartment parking lot, but I haven't attempted the front ones. When would be a good time for you (if you don't mind helping and offering your garage)?

Thanks,
Dmitriy

It was a long weekend, but we managed to install a UUC M3 short shifter (Psychocany's M3), UUC Pulleys (MotorcityM3's M3), and front Koni strut insterts (Dima's dakar M3)....and I still had time to drink beer.

It was good seeing all you guys again and getting together. I had actually met Dmitriy (Dima) about 3 years ago when I sold a set of wheels and tires for a friend.

Ralliart, sorry you couldn't make it out, but I was swamped with work anyways.

Anyone else wanting install work done, PM or e-mail me. If you buy the UUC product from me, I'll install it for free (sans flywheels). Yes, I'll even install the flywheel/clutch, but it will cost a little extra (maybe another $100-150) because its a LOT more work than most other products.

Thanks and Take Care All,

I ordered the parts today for my car. Hopefully I will get them by Wednesday and install them. I found someone that can bleed brakes up here for me so it should all work out.

EMC - I appreciate your help. Things with Body Werks just didnt work out. I'll have to give them another chance when I need something.

No responses in a week! Are all the Michigan people asleep or something? Maybe ya'll just have crappy timewarner/brighthouse cable modems like I do...that don't like to work all the time.

I went to the car show in Lansing today, only drove thru but it looks pretty cool they just park the cars along the street,it would be real cool to roll in there with a bunch of bimmers,I was the only one that I saw and I got alot of looks and my car isnt shit compared to what some of you guys have. The next show is July12th,I say we just make plans to do it otherwise we will never get toghether and summer will be gone. The show is right downtown Lansing about 2 blocks from the Capitol, which I think is a pretty cool photo shoot oppurtunity.

I went up to East Lansing for the evening, but didn't bother to go out to the Lansing Car Show.

Anyhow...I have a Racing Dynamics Splitter that someone can have for FREE.

The only stipulation is that its not for resale. If you want to fix the cracks and have it painted, then installed on your car, then great. I just don't want someone picking it up, then trying to sell it for $10 or something. If thats what I wanted...I'd just do it myself. :) I paid $240 for this fiberglass thing and then had to fill the pits and paint it (yes it was new when I bought it).

Here are the pics...email or PM if interested..located in Livonia, MI...for pick-up only

Ohh man I would be all over this if I didnt already have my AC Schnitzer front bumper.

I also have an idea for the summer. I know of a Subaru car club that meets at the Novi BW3's on Tuesday for $.30 wings. I was thinking about setting up a meet to get things rolling on July 1st. It doesnt need to be anything huge but just a good way to get to know each other and enjoy some GOOOOD wings.

Well, I finally got my car back on the road.. Still got a few quirks to work through but all in all she is a good runner. Once I get through this break in period I can let her have it and see what shes made of!! :D
