Hey guys

I think there is something wrong with the performance of my car and I want to see where I am at. No codes to report. Few mods. Shitty gas. Plus I want an idea on the output of my car with the mods. So I am looking for a dyno shop in the area unless there is a a discounted Dyno day for Forum or BMWCCA members. Any ideas?

Thanks

For those who are interested they are doing a winter special.
Base run = $60
Tune runs= $120

I will go next week tuesday for a base run.

Do you guys have any idea what I should be at with a 1997 328I, AA catback, K&N cone filter, Shark injector chip?

I posted this earlier

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=310946

I just went to a local Dyno shop in MI for a couple base runs on my car. Boy I was so pissed I did not even want to drive my car home.

OK about the car: 1997 BMW 328I Automatic with 85K. It has an AA cat back exhaust, K&N cone filter, and a Shark Injector Chip.

I did all the research in the world on this site befor I went to get an idea of what to expect and I saw base runs for 328's was about 168 HP and 175 TQ. Vehicles with some mods I saw 194 hp and 201 TQ with some above and some below.

I had three runs at about 164.4@ 5500rpm and 171.8@ 4000rpm. I gained 1 hp on the second run and another when I took off the cone filter. Notice how the everything died at under 6000RPM.

Does anyone know how even witht he upgrades I did not even hit Stock hp/tq?
Just as a side note, using the OBC timer I run 0-60 in approx 7.3sec. minus user error. With some frequent spirited driving I average about 17-18MPG and it has new spark plugs.

We were using a Mustang Dyno

They suggested I change my cone filter to a bigger one, they thought the hfm may be dirty. Honestly they kept saying they don't know much about BMW just honda and acura. Devin was there. You have any suggestions. Do you think my number are low for the work done?

Those numbers are not too bad. Remember, its on a Mustang Dyno. My car dyno'd 360 rwhp and 360 rwtq at Payne on the Mustang. On the DynoJet, it was 413rwhp. That's a huge difference. Dyna Pack was like 409rwhp, but I had a LOT of heat soak in the intercooler.

Holy long thread, Batman!!

For kicks and giggles, I figured I'd check out the regional forums for the first time to see if there were any local-to-me folks so I could do a little mod window shopping. By the looks of this thread there's at least one or two Michigan Bimmerheads around!

Anyway, I'd love to be able to compare short-shift kits. I need one to go under my spiffy new illuminated shift knob (Hi Dave! :)) Is there anyone with a UUC/Rogue/understeer MZ3 shifter who wouldn't mind meeting up and showing it off?

Also, by clicking back four or five pages on this thread, I saw some talk of a maintenance get-together. I will need to do the cooling system and inspection II at some point this spring, so if there was a meet, I'd definitely be interested. (Sadly, I bring nothing to the table but enthusiasm and beer -- I've only owned my car for about six months and I haven't gotten much beyond brake work and various little fixes/mods.)

I am also starting to look for buyers for my winter vehicle:

This was my winter car this year. I am looking at selling it in the next month or so but wanted to list it to see if there was any local interest. The car has about 115,000 miles but the odometer was replaced and it reads 76,000 at the moment. The body is in quite good shape with a scuff on the rear bumper and a little rust in the door jams. The interior is also in good shape and the car runs well. I did all the minor maintaence to the car before winter. The car has an aftermarket kenwood headunit, professionally tinted windows and an aftermarket alarm with keyless entry. It is a 5 speed also. The tires still have a good amount of tread left on them and the car comes with the alloy wheels.

Things that are wrong with the car - shocks could be replaced...the ride is not bad but it wouldn't hurt to put new ones in. The passenger window does not go down - I haven't looked at it so I am not sure if it is an easy fix or not but I know window motors are like $100 and that is probably worst case. There is a crack in the windshield.

Let me know if you would be interested in this car in a month or so and if you think the price is fair or not.

Blue book on the car is $ 2955 - http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.ur?kbb.MI;546729;MI125&48017;+p&722;Nissan;1996%20200S X&10;NI;A1&&&

I would like to get $2750.

What are the symptoms of your trans problems. My 325i....way back when it had an automatic trans would jump into 3rd gear and not want to get out of 3rd. Cruise control would also stop working on occasion. It turned out to be the selector switch in the shifter would touch on neutral and cause the issues.

Good Luck!

Sweet! Where you guys get on telegraph? Maybe we could get a coffee at some starbucks on telegraph one friday morning or something, then do a mini cruise up through I-75, hehe. My mornings are pretty flexible, especially on fridays. Weather is getting better fast...

Hey, BTW, you are all engineers? I work at DCTC.

I'm on T-graph from 6 mile all the way up to Square Lake. I work at Brose North America in Auburn Hills (office is just past the Palace). I am an Engineer / Program Manager.

Hey guys, anyone know good place to buy some Axxis Ultimates brake pads locally? I ordered from PPS online, but they are on back order, and I have an event on 4/3 in cincinatti and another on 4/8 @ Gingerman. I was planning on doing the brake job this weekend, since the week after I'll be really cought up with school work and working for the finals. Is there a local source where I can pick them up? Doesn't have to be the best price around. PPS had them for 90 all 4 corners. My stock pads will NOT survive the second track day (first one is a drift event, not worried about brakes for that one). Thanks in advance!

Alright it is between

Goodyear GS-D3 (installed (4) at Discount Tire with Tax and certs. 921.)

or

Bridgstone So3s through a connection in Ohio, 785 for the set (not installed)

Which is a better tire?

Actually, I don't know anyone! LOL. I just found that event from a local website (projectaspec.com) somehow, went up to the event for some fun. There are very few drift events around this area.

I may have meet the guys there, but I suck at names.

After listening to the organizers talk smack for about 2 hours and use all those "cool words and definitions drifters use", we finally got to drive. The event was planned for a couple hours of drift time. In reality it was like 1.5 hrs of drift, then it converted to a 1/8 drag comp. I lost a tire on my first time out (did I mention i was really anxious to drive after all the talk?), took me an hour just to find a replacement and get it back on the car. Got back to be able to run once more, then my Check Engine light came on, as I was low on oil and that high bank to the left makes you pull over oil like a mofo. I was done for the day, and split right after the drags commenced. I was not prepared for the event, and I missed out on it because of so. So since I was runing around like a chicken without a head I barely got to talk to people. Plus I was overal pissed with the whole thing and me being so stupid as to go out for the hell of it unprepared, so i was a bit anti-social :(

Overall it was OK for a local event. One guy there was really good in a swaped 240 (which looked bitchin and souded awesome!). I think this year they are going to have night events, which would be cool, as long as they keep the rice drags to a minimum (not likely to happen). 1/8 mile is teh ghey, but I can dig the need for speed. We are desperate here in MI!!! LOL

I've seen some of the cars that were at this event at other auto-x's and stuff, but I don't know who they are and people looked different. I'm a little shy too.

But I'm definetly down for this years events! I think those projectaspec guys didn't expect a BMW to show up for thrashing. It would be cool to go to the next event with a couple more, maybe even drag some V8's and some rice!

Oh, and I never got to thank SPH33R for those absolutly bitchin pictures! Very nice job! He made me look good! hehehe :buttrock Thanks man!

BTW.. there's another drift event going to be put on June 4th in Toledo at the Toledo Speedway by myself and my crew at XceedSpeed.com ... should be a good time. There's no affiliation between ProjectAspec and XceedSpeed other than me being friends with Jay@aspec so our event will be ran differently.. meaning the whole focus will be on drifting and gymkhana as opposed to the extra stuff that I find quite boring. FYI - Xenia is to Ohio what Taylor is to Michigan (complete shi*hole). Head 2 miles West to Yellow Springs and you'll have a much better time (drinking). Yellow Springs is the town Charles Manson said he would move to if he ever got out of prison. It's a small liberal hippy town, but much cooler than Xenia....

So buying tires sucks. Found out I need wider than expected for the new hamann wheels, which happen to be staggered. This is revelaed by cleaning off a whole lot of grim.

So now the fronts will be 235-40-18 and the rear will be 255-35-18.
Should be cool, too bad I can't rotate.

I may need a fender roll, anyone know who has the equipment.

Grand Rapids and Bay City... Hmmm.

I grew up in Clarkston and moved to Oklahoma 3 years ago. Anyway, I am taking a job offer back in Michigan and I'll be moving back to the Clarkston area around the end of the month.

Down here, we've been having meets every 6 weeks or so. We just started getting organized, but we're having shirts made up and are starting a website. Since we are also spread out geographically, our meets alternate between 2 major cities in Oklahoma. Maybe we could work something out similar to that in Michigan for the Grand Rapids and Oakland County areas...

Anyway, I've got to run. I hope everyone in the area is interested in getting something going. I was up there this past Monday and the weather seems to be getting pretty nice...

I grew up on Parview. Parview connects Andersonville Road to Dixie. It's between White Lake Road and M15. Waterford Hill area.

When I get up there my I'll probably be living with the rents on the edge of the Holly/Clarkston border. I'll stay there until my house down here sells and until I find a good place to buy. I'm hoping to find something a little closer to Birmingham since that's where I'll be working. Birmingham is real pricy but some of the surrounding areas may be obtainable. I'll be happy as long as I'm within 30 minutes of downtown Birmingham during morning traffic...

Depends on what you're looking for. One place that is close for Michigan is Understeer. They are located in Ohio and mainly specialize in performance parts. They don't list everything on their website but can order things, so it's worth calling them. Very good customer service. I will be doing business with them again as soon as I'm settled with the move and such.

Also check out the supporting vendors area. Lot of good places there...

Yep, went to Clarkston. I was in the first class that graduated from the new high school in 99...

There will be a lot of things down here that I miss, but I'm looking forward to getting back up there. It'll be fun trying to find a place. I won't be in a huge hurry, the more I can save up to put down on a house or condo the better. Right now I'm leaning towards a condo since I don't want to have to deal with yardwork...

Can anyone recomend a tint shop or person around Oakland county? I got mine installed, and they look like shit. I doubt the guy is competent enough to redo the job and make it look better (it is supposed to be lifetime warranty). This guy tok a whole day extra to complete my car, used a screwdriver for the quarter glass torxs and fucked them up, left the quarter glass soo loose it almost fell out, left scratches, creases, bubbles al over the place, and my driver side window is already pealing at the rear corner. All windows look like shit because of the dot matrix also. I'd rather spend the cash again and get a decent job than have to go back there and leave my baby in his hands...

The decal could be mounted to clear plastic and then to a magnet to make a rater nice decal for racing day.

Home depot route is gonna be the cheapest for yah. Its a walk in the park really. You should be able to get it done in one day including a trip to home depot for the odds and ends.

Yah hes full of shit. The mileage cannot jump, its digital, theres really no way to tamper with it other than the super computers BMW have. The car has a new motor in it. He money shifted it shorty after he bought it. The car has been in an accident on the passenger side as well and its on its 3rd used transmission since he had owned it. :rolleyes He was pretty hard on it. The guy that brought it to Michigan was a buddy of mine and he was pretty good with it. He raced it a couple times but nothing major. He did slide into a curb on a turn on the drivers side and had to replace the rear trailing arm and knuckle on the drivers side. As well as the wheel but those are not the wheels that were on it before. He got the motor put in at Sharpe BMW and the trannys were done at the shop I worked for. As well as a couple brake jobs and oil changes. I know he took it out to Colorado as well and it broke down on him, not really sure the extent to what happened I just know the guys there didn't know how to take a tranny off and ended up braking the belt housing on the 2nd tranny which is why it recieved its 3 tranny. That one was one that I was planning on putting in my car and is low mileage and pretty solid. I believe it was out of a 98 M3 with 12k on the clock. If I recall correctly we also had to replace his rearend but don't quote me on that one. Just seems like it has my old 3.15 in it.... i think thats about it. i can give my buddy a call up at Sharpe and have him print out its service history with all the BMW dealerships its been to and give you those as well.

Does anyone have a AA Exhaust? Or a Stromung? I'm thinking about getting something with my profit sharing check :) but would like to hear them in person. Laptop speakers just don't really say how it sounds.

i had and heard a few exhausts, the AA has always been my favorite. And you can add the track pipe later and really get some killer sound. :redspot

I live in Ypsilanti and have an AA exhaust. I am satisfied with it. Whenever you want to hear it, let me know.

Where in the Detroit area do you live? I work out in Southfield. Perhaps we could meet up somewhere.

werd! This place sucks. I got one of the most private lots in town, still i hear thumping bass at 3 am, car alarms, fights and shit, and check this, the neighbors in the apt complex next door throw their garbage over the fence into my yard!!! WTF!? Like your typical kitchen garbage, beer bottles and cans, KFC (I hate fucking KFC) :confused . At least I've never had anyone fuck with me, knock on wood.

Today I was looking for something in Clarkston. Saw a nice place, thinking of buying a house :buttrock

I work in Auburn Hills, but lunch is however long i want as long as i don't miss meetings. Where's a good place for lunch? Maybe we can get a small group together. The Moose Preserve is overrated, but good enough for lunch anyday. Whos up? Monday? Tuesday?

I'm kinda embarrased to drive my car though, no wash, still have the lumpy track tires on, full of rubber dust from drifting and burnouts.
