Yeah, it looks like I am going Tamer...you planning on watching or actually racing? I am planning on leaving around 10 or so. You can find the directions on their website... www.lapeerdragway.com Just take Lapeer road north past 69 and past the city of lapeer and it is like 3 miles north of Lapeer the city. Let me know if you have any questions.

LittleblueBMW you should come too if you are bored. Good fun way to spend 25 bucks.

Nope, still running like shit. Playing phone tag with AA on it.

So Tamer and I had a good time at the track today. Tamer didn't run but him and my friend Jeff watched and cheered me on. Anyways, here is my best time of the day:

13.560 @ 103.08mph.

I was very pleased with the times seeing as my only performance mod is my custom built CAI. I will have pics and time slips scanned shortly.

Hello Michigan folks,
first I'd like to say to DSrugis, that is one sick time you got at the drag strip. I can only hope my M3 would be that fast though I doubt it is.

I am also posting because I need some help. I installed my Ground-Control track/school kit this past weekend (with only hand tools, never try this!!!) and after much work it is finally all in and wow does it handle like mad. Unfortunately it needs a little adjustment (rear is way too low) and some spacers up front (swapped strut hats for lots o camber) but now I need to get it aligned. Anyone know of a good place in the metro Detroit area for alignment and possibly corner balancing? I'm in Ferndale but am willing to drive a little to get good work done.
Thanks.

Hi guys,
I'm located in Holland, MI and I moneyshifted my M3 back in March. I'm considering three options:
1> Pick up a low mileage 3.2L from a wreck
2> Buy a rebuilt 3.2L
3> Have my 3.0L rebuilt; needs new head and has a valve embedded in cylinder #1 piston.

I've got the money together now to fix my car can you please give me recommendations on:
Independent BMW shop in MI that does engine rebuilds
Salvage yards in Michigan that carry BMW parts
Any other info I didn't ask for that you think would be helpful

Thanks,
Andy

I used to work at Autosports Unlimited on 120th in Holland. They have a 3.2 from a 99 M3 with like 18k on it. The motor is perfect. They can also do the work there as well. We have done everything on my car there so the knowledge is there.

DeezBMW,
Thanks for the reply. For some unknown reason I've never done any business with them even thou I work in Zeeland.

Called thier Euro used parts number and left them a message. If you don't mind tellin me, what is your name so I can tell them you recommended them?

It would be great if I can get a engine from them being so close.

Thanks again for your help,

Kims a good guy, he will know who I am . The 99 was sitting on the very end of the BMW motor row. Another guy was trying to sell it so it may be gone. There was a 5 speed tranny still hooked up to it.

Even more odd is the fact that I worked out there for 3 years and I have never seen your car.

DeezBMW,
I bought my M3 last fall so it hasn't been around the Zeeland area very long. You may have seen my red Porsche 914 around Zeeland that I drove for about 10 years. The company I work for is on Centennial between Roosevelt and Riley in Zeeland.

I went over to the old AutoSports shop on Harrison and got some funny looks because I didn't realize they had moved over to the old Batt's building on Franklin a couple years ago. Anyway if I can get a couple things lined up tonight I'll pickup the 97 engine tomorrow at lunch. The 99 was sold.

Thanks for your help,

Andy

I still remember what you said when my buddy bought his car from them. But, so far his car has been great. Hopefully, the examples you mentioned are isolated cases and they haven't done anything to this car.

One thing that I would really like to know about it is if there has been any paint work. Could you guys check for any masking lines anywhere that would indicate painting.

caught this 200 +/- tarpon at the 7 mile bridge in Marathon last week. Caught it on a 17 lb rated St Croix rod w/ shimano reel at max drag. Took me 1 1/2 hours to land, he took me around atleast 30 pilons and from the gulf side to the atlantic back to gulf 5 times, finally landed him in the atlantic. I was using a crab the size of a quarter for bait. I am on the right. http://www.acurainspired.com/gallery/data/98f13708210194c475687be6106a3b84/full_45_p27449.jpg

The is awesome!!! Sounds like a real battle, especially on 17lb line! Nothing beats the Florida Keys, been there twice in the last year or so. Can't say I've caught anything like that! Been thinking of flyfishing for tarpon next time down. I'd be happy with one a quarter the size of that beast.

There was an interesting article in the Detroit News today showing the market share for the Metro Detroit area for the automakers vs the Nat'l average.

BMW - .6% locally, 1.4 nationally. So there are a lot less BMW's in the area than other demographic locations...

Agreed, the results were not that surprising, but I don't know that I would have guessed that their market share would be less than half of the nat'l avg. I think this is a good thing, I personally don't like seeing a car just like mine around every street corner.

I would say since it is carbon fiber, you should leave it carbon fiber. If you can find a place that can do it you could apply another clear coat on it with an avus tint. Thats what I am going to do for a hood next year. Carbon fiber hood but clearcoated with the color of my car mixed in. That way you still see the carbon fiber up close! :D

Man, this place is dead around here.

How'd the Auto-X go?

Time for a meet guys, especially before BFE.

The Autox was great! , this was a much bigger and official event than the one at the Silverdome, the track was more professional, more defined, and the event was broadcasted on the radio..
I had 4 runs:
1: DNF, I lost the track after a sharp turn..
2: 66.00 :tried to do it right this time...
3 and 4: 61.1 seconds: tried to drive faster...

The average times was about 56 seconds,, lots of cars were in the 58-59 range and lots were in 51-52 sec range.

It will need lots of training and seat time to get a better time.

I will probably go for a drag race this weekend if anybody interested...

reagarding a meet, I don't see too much participation here

OK So I am going to BFE and if anyone is going to and wants to split a place to crash, I booked a room in a 15 mile range from the event for like 100.00 for the two nights, at the Red Roof inn. I have a double and we can get roll away too if need be. I didn't splash out since we will only be sleeping there.

Eric (EMC) is tha MAN! :) I drove out to his shop and Eric, took on the task of changing out all 4 of my brakes completely (rotors, pads, sensors, fluid bleed) along with an oil change this past Saturday! A clean awesome job, very professional, and he knows what he's talking about! I would refer anyone to him in a heartbeat... he's very knowledgable and well-versed when it comes to BMW's. Thanx again Eric! :D

Just do your very best to make sure the clutch looks centered within the pressure plate. The standard clutch alignment tool gets it close, but you still need to tweak it by hand to get it perfect while to tighten the pressure plate bolts. Sometimes it takes a couple adjustments, but its no big deal.

and I have a great tale of gas stations and fire trucks and me.

I was filling up in Chesterton Indiana and the cut-off failed to stop the gas from Dispensing once full. So I was fixing a fuse uner the hood and all the sudden there was a gush of gas, like a broken pipe, coming out of the gas tank. Well I finally got the gas to stop and had dispensed 16.5 gallons when I only needed maybe 12. So I called roadside assistance and they said to leave the car and they would call the fire department. I couldn't cap the tank since that was flooded. I knew this was bad.

There had been a guy pumping gas along side me but he never said anything, not even when the great flood began. Assh00le!

Also the gas station attendant didn't seem to mind that the pump was broken.

The firemen did care. They came in two suburbans and a truck. kind of cool, but obviously, the big thing for them for the day. There were gawkers abound. They soaked up the gas that was all over the ground. Their leader told the attendant and I am sure something along the lines of shut that pump down.

They pushed the car away from the pump too.

So about 45 minutes later I am back on the road. The inside smealls of gas. My tire and trim are discolored now and I am out 10.00 in extra gas.

Then my windshield got a stone chip.

The End.

Does anyone know of any upcoming DE events in Metro-Detroit area? I went to the "BMW Ultimate Driving Experience" today at Pontiac Silverdome and had a blast! That was my first autocross/any kind of "performance" driving experience and I want more of it! I was meaning to do it for the longest time, but never got around to actually doing it.

Are there any places besides http://roundel.org that would have a list of driving events? Any of you guys going to any of them? How much does it usually cost and what needs to be done in order to register for them?

Thanks,

Shoot a PM over to agapheme (Andre). He teaches at alot of these events and is in tune with most of the relatively local events (Indiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, etc). He could offer some good advice on the subject and you won't meet a nicer guy.

Unfortunetely, I am not going to be here on July 10/11... going away for honeymoon!
I will send PM to agapheme (Andre) and see what he says... It looks SEM Porsche Club is having DE events at the Waterford Hills and they are pretty inexpensive compared to the BMWCCA ones (only $130 for non-members), but I am not even sure if they allow non-porsche cars there.

BMWCCA events are always really pricey (200-600). Plus our chapter has only that and one safety school scheduled for the whole year. I wonder what my dues are going towards since they have little socials and the occasional drive but nothing else. In California, there were events all the time but they were expensive.

So I'd say SCCA is better out here for track and Auto-X type events.

The Auto-X on the 10th is part of the pro series so be prepared to have your butt handed to you :)

As far as the exhaust, I would just change the mufflers to Magnflows... pretty good deep sound without the ricy camaro getto cans...and cheap too.... I wouldn't change the whole thing as it's too expensive without power gain. you will find lots of opinion here about exhausts if you search...

I am a big fan of the AA gen 3 exhaust, specially with the track pipe. It depends on what you are looking for. The Dinan exhaust, although quite expensive, sounds VERY nice all alone. I have the track pipe/gen 3 combo myself and if I ever getting reliable again I wouldn't mind meeting up sometime. I usually take a trip to Michigan City every year to gamble and go to the outlet malls. Michigan City anywhere near you?

As some of you may know, I recently graduated from Kettering University and started working full time at Bosch. I had been waiting long enough and it was finally time to buy an M3. I flew out to Washington DC to pick it up and spent all day driving back. I'd like you to meet my graduation present to myself, 99' Alpine on Black with 62k miles:

It already has AA intake, AA Software, and the DTM lip. I'm going to hold off on modding it for a little while. This winter though, I might be turboing with the help of Eric. If an extra 4 grand came my way then I would throw on some BBS RE's and GC Coilovers. I dont see that happening anytime soon though.

Ralliart> Very nice ride! Car looks extremely clean, it's cool that it came with clears all around, I think that makes the Alpine White look stunning. And it looks like it already has ZKW's as well. That should save you some cash. Nice find. Happy modding.

Also, since you work at Bosch do you have access to parts? I need an ignition control module - part # 8D0 905 351 or part # 4D0 905 351. Can you let me know if you can get these and if so, how much. The 4D0 part is almost $400 from the dealer. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

It's probably time for new rotors and pads...even if they were replaced before.

LittleBlueBMW
07-22-2004, 10:45 AM
There is no shake at lower speed braking, but I think it would be best to check both and replace as needed. But should I go with stock rotors or something with a little more stop? Plus there are so many options for brake pads, but I need street with occasional auto-X and track worthiness.

EMC
07-22-2004, 10:06 PM
Basically stock rotors and a good set of pads. I like Axxis ultimates because they stick like stock pads (better when warm) and have about a quarter of the dust.

Not far from the Silverdom, instead of exiting toward M59 you will contine about 4 or 5 miles north on I-75 and will exit at Great lakes crossing (Baldwin exit)..
