I plan on both days but due to limited financial resources, I am taking a pass on the track day to take pics.

I would like to share a room but I need to meet some of you first so it isn't too weird, plus since I am a girl I should make sure you guys aren't nuts ;)

if not we should all partner up in rooms and stay in the same place.

also we should try to do our michigan meet before BFE so we all know whos who

Actually he is coming home in mid June so we will have to room together. You bringing anyone? Gotta have a co-pilot to get some good footage!! :D

I agree, we all need to get together before the drive so we can put faces with cars/names.

There is one in Nunica, which is right by Spring Lake or Grand Haven, or there is one that just opened up in Holland but I will have to get the location for you. We are going to set an appoinment there at the end of this month if you want us to add you to the list. Probably be cheaper. Right now there is 6 of us that want to make a pull or 2.

I just got my car off the dyno in Holland.

http://www.ayaracing.com

We are designing a custom turbo kit for my m3 for installation next Winter. He goes by the name Kaz and is very straight forward to deal with.

Please give him a call and he has a forum on his site that he actually responds to when asked questions.

Feel free to ask me any questions, I was there twice this week and my car will be back there this coming week for more work.

I cannot get the tap to make holes to install the dead pedal. The plastic for the foot rest is much tougher than I thought it would be.h Can anyone help? Otherwise I'll just sell the piece.

I spent $200 but was there for better than 4 hours installing X-Brace, messing with IAT sensor, talking about turbo design, ect. I got my money's worth as far as I was concerned and it is a mustang dyno.

Here is another thing about Kaz....
He doesn't work on trash. His lot isn't scattered with parts cars, he is not a muffler shop or an oil changing house. He is into the cool stuff and it doesn't appear to me that he needs to do this for a living so he does it because he loves it.

Are you just trying to screw through the pedal into the plastic? I could help, but my shop is in Livonia. We just got Jeff's M3 out of the shop today, so there is now room to pull in another car.

I have a Makita stubby cordless drill that works perfect for that. If you were closer I could have it installed in like 5 mins. I have done 3 different types of dead pedals on my car, the ACS one (real btw) is the one I have now.

Yeah I know Matt, i would like to see what kind of power I was putting down with just my motor first but I sold my chip/injectors/intake already. Kinda shitty.

I didn't realize that dyno was that close to my work. I work on 120th ave out in Holland. I am gonna have to stop by there tomorrow. Does he still have that Mitsubishi EVO over there?

EMC> Many thanks for all of your hard work getting my car running again. It feels great to have it back on the road. After driving the prelude all winter, it feels like a $100k car. I appreciate your help and will get with you this week to make pmt.

If anyone is interested in a set of BBS RG-R's 18x8.5 with Pirelli P Zero Nero's (only used approx. 3 mos) please let me know. They are a perfect fit for any E36. One wheel has a small rash, other than that they are mint. I have pics if you need them. I thought I would post this here first because I would like to avoid shipping them.

Thanks

Yup, all I have been trying to do is drill through the plastic to anchor the pedal with some screws. Where is the shop in Livonia? I'd love to get some help and check out the place for when I am in need of future work :)

BTW I believe my pedal is also real. But I am never quite sure since it didn't have instructions in the ACS box. I guess it is pretty self-explanitory

Thanks

EMC,
I was running Michelin pilot sports. 275/19/30. The tire pressure was a whopping 42psi. They are my normal street tires. When i go to the track I preffer to run the same set up i run on everyday driving. Then I know when someone asks me "whats itt run"..... I can tell them. The way theyre looking at it. I would like to throw some super sticky 18's on, raise the suspension, and even lower the tire pressure to get some super crazy time, but i feel like thats not how i drive it. I even kept my box in the trunk. :buttrock

what's up all, I didn't know you were all meeting this weekend. Guess I should check this forum out more often.

When will the next meet be? I'm dying to see EMC's car now that it's finished and would love to see Deez ride in person as well. Let's setup a BBQ day or something since it's nice out again.

Hey Eric (EMC), I decided after doing some reading not to buy the M5 suspension. I will save up a little and buy a new setup. What do you think about Bilstein shocks or Koni shocks w/ BavAuto Springs or Eibach springs?

Also, I'm ordering a pre-modded cdv from Zacheusen, can you help me do this as I'm not familiar with bleeding hydrolic systems.

I spent about 20 hours this past weekend detailing my car. I buffed w/ a hi speed wheel, polished, waxed, conditioned the leather, etc. It looks really good.

Next weekend I'm changing the oil, atf, and diff fluid, should be fun!

What's a "cdv"? Bleeding hydraulic systems/brakes is easy.

I built another 3" stainless exhaust for my car this past weekend. That was more work than I wanted to do, although now it will be easier to duplicate.

thanks, but those pics are from last week. I didn't take any pics after detailing b/c it was dark when I finished. It's kinda pointless to take them today b/c it already doesn't look as good.

EMC, CDV= Clutch Delay Valve, it is a small valve located in the clutch line, we would just need to swap it out, fill the fluid back up and get the air out. I would prob try it myself but I don't have a floor jack, stands or a garage.

What would it cost to build an exhaust for my car?

Slomotion> I think I have seen your car a few time on the way to work (96E @ US23 to Telegraph rd.). I am sure you had to notice mine as well, a sweet 1991 base model Honda Prelude with faded window tint.

Hey, when you detailed your car did you follow the steps listed in the show and shine forum? Basically, wax bar, 3m cleaner, klass AIO, followed by klass sealant, then optional carnuba finish (also utilizing a PC random orbital sander).

I have alot of this stuff on order and would be curious if you used this formula and whether you think it made a world of difference. I have a couple cars that I would like to detail and sell this spring.

Agapehme> I am going to test the detailing process detailed in the show and shine forum on the old Honda to test the results. If it turns out nice, I would be happy to help you out if you wanted to clean and polish your car. I will keep you posted. Most of the product that I ordered arrives today. Unfortunately, we probably won't have another nice day for a week or so.

I may have seen you before, not sure. I'm on 696 & Tele alot.

Here's what I did.

1. washed twice with Dawn.
2. used some 3M Perfect-it swirl mark remover with hi speed wheel.
3. cleaned the huge mess the hi speed wheel made and washed with plain water.
4. applied 2 coats of Maquiar's Deep Crystal Polish with an Orbital buffer/terry pad and removed it by hand with diaper rags.
5. applied a coat of s100 by hand and removed with orbital buffer/microfiber pad. did this twice.
6. cleaned all glass and put rainex on all exterior glass.
7. washed the entire interior w/ soapy water.
8. Lexol'd all leather
9. 303'd everything on the interior.
10. cleaned the liner with Oxyclean.
11. used Mothers Back to Black on the exterior trim.
12. Polished and waxed my wheels too.
13. stood back and said, "man, my ride is pimpin!"

I've never used a clay bar, what is it for?

I came outside this morning after the rain, ya it sucks that it rained, and my ride looked so awesome with all the water beeds all over it.

Later,

Jim

Yeah, there are several Dynos down here. Just take your pick of what kind you want. Mustang, DynoJet, DynaPack...

My family is from Pentwater, over on Lake Michigan. I can always use an excuse to get up there and visit them. Grand Rapids is right on the way.

Maybe when Matt's car is done we can line them up and see how they compare. After I finish some more work, my 325is should also be turbo'd. Maybe I'll be able to bring that one up instead.

My check engine light came on today so I went up to Autozone (free OBDII scan) and it came up p1397, ignition system or misfire, does anyone know more about this code? I changed my plugs and boots. Erhard FarmHills matched Pacific prices. $7.80/plug $8.40/boot.

I'd be down for an evening get together - maybe Novi? LittleBlue I believe you've been designated as the group Event Planner :D

slowmo: I would try to get the cam position sensor error cleared first, i don't think it will damage anything. BMWs monitor everything and it seems like if there's even a slight blip in the signal it sends up the light. I had the same code, cleared it w/o replacing the part and never saw it again. Thanks for the tip but I did try that. I took the harness off blew some air in there had the light reset and it stayed off for a day. Then when it came back on I went to Autozone had them run it again to assure it was the same code and they reset it and it came on again.

I replaced the MAF and Cam Sensor yesterday, both very easy jobs, for $308 (248/maf 60/sensor) thanks to Autostraus in AA for there awesome price on parts. Erhard wanted 479/maf and 156/sensor.

Needless to say, my car runs perfectly smooth again.

I just checked and I only have 8pts currently. Not too bad I guess. Never got a drag racig ticket to stick - went to court twice for that. Lawyer was able to prove there was no defined start and end (requirements I guess for "drag racing" ticket).

As far as Liberty Mutual I just got a sheet from SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers). Through them you can get 10% off for being a member of SAE, and additional discounts for multiple cars, Good Student and other misc. I'll see if I can find the details. Might check into them myself.

I may be alone here, but ZERO points.
Liberty Mutual was great except My Dad has to stay on because he cosigned the loan for the car, even though he doesn't drive it or make payments.

If I can get him off my current policy, I might not change. I made the mistake of re-registering the car in CA and now my insurance has to be CA. It might have been cheaper to reg. in MI and get MI insurance that is comparable.

I am thinking about getting an upgrade to 18s and I like either
#46 M3 wheels in hyper black
or ACS Type IIIs (by Moven)

Either would be a replica since ebay has used sets that are still out of my price range.

Opinions?

fantastixvoyage
04-23-2004, 01:46 PM
I thought about upgrading to 17s since the roads around here are so bad. Does anyone here have experience with 17 vs. 18s? Durability, ride, etc? Either way I wouldn't go with super low profile tires - just asking for problems IMHO.

EMC
04-23-2004, 04:03 PM
If you are getting 18's, just make sure that they are a forged wheel. 17's and 18's will bend easily if they are not a strong wheel.

I'd shy away from buying replicas. There are lots of people that have had replica wheels bend on them. Ask slomotion (aka Mr. 132 in a 65) what happened to his first set of replicas....although his case would have wrecked most wheels.

I have a couple sets of bent 17's if you want to see how they will feel after a year of Michigan driving. ;)

DeezBMW
04-23-2004, 04:15 PM
Yeah I would agree with Eric on the replica deal. I have already read a couple threads about the Movens as it is. Finish starts flaking, then your looking at spending another $125 per wheel to have them refinished on top of what you spent on them in the first place. Try to find a set of damaged "real" wheels. Transwheel out of Ill. is amazing when it comes to refinishing wheels. You can usually pic up a set of damaged wheels for a reasonable price, then another $125 each and they are litterally Brand New!!

Ralliart
04-23-2004, 06:06 PM
I learned my lesson with replicas and other low quality wheels. I got a great deal on a set of 17" Voxx's with 225/40 Nitto's. It didn't take long at all for them to bend. You can't see the bends but they won't balance out at a tire shop. When you are on the road they cause vibrations depending on the severity of the bend. Once the tires wear out they are going in the garbage. It's really too bad because I love the way the wheels look.

Yes you should def stay far far away from replicas. My first set were severely damaged by a huge crater on 96 and I was lucky enough to have AAA pick up the tab. It was about 2 weeks of driving on both sets of wheels that all 4 were "out of round." I ended up hitting a big pothole on Meadowbrook Rd. between GR & 11 Mile and damaging the 2 driver side and had to replace both tires. Luckily, once again AAA was able to cover this as well so I bought 2 wheels and AAA picked up the other 2 and tires. Both instances were considered unavoidable road hazards and AAA was able to waive my deductables and did not effect my rate. My new set are replicas but seem to be much stronger than the M5s. I would go the damaged then repaired route as Deez suggested if you are looking for a cheap but reliable solution.

Ok Erics between 11 and no later than noon for those coming from further away.
Eric please post an address for us.

No replica wheels then.
Either used ACS Type IIIs or OEM E46s.

Still hunting the insurance deal of the century.

Liberty Mutual with my Dad and his speeding ticket plus me (under 25) makes it 1700 a year with some pretty high end coverage.

LittleBlue -

If you're going OEM let me know exactly what you want (part # is best). I get parts at wholesale.

Might be joining everyone on saturday. I'd like to meet everyone. But I've got a bachelor party that night that I've been planning.

Any buddy deal with internet scammers? I just got a phony cashiers check (likely I'm not out anything) and I'd like to see this a$$hole pay.

I think that if I want to go OEM I need to get 4 front wheels, but I am not sure if that will work. I don't see any reason why not but you never know. Can you get light fixtures? I was looking at going with clears around the car (corners, sidemarkers, and euro rears) but price will determine whether this is a good idea.

Insurance hunt

Comparable coverage from AAA is 820 / 6 months (with a $200 discount for credit union account)

Liberty mutual: Rated as 25 years or older simply for owning a BMW
If your collision deductible is 1000.00 then the premium is 1300 a year

fantastixvoyage
04-28-2004, 01:42 PM
I'll find out about the clears. It would be cheaper to buy off brands but I'm not sure about the tailights as I know some brands throw up the check brake light circuit dispaly.

you really need 4 fronts? Is there a different offset with E46s?

Cool pic!

Did u call Amica? $1000 deductibles is too high,, $500 is reasonable..
there are few coverage items that are recommended so you would be totally covered in case of any serious accedient.. I could give you more details if you want..
...For your case if you get $1300 with $500 deductibles and high coverage that would best...

LittleBlueBMW
04-28-2004, 03:13 PM
tough to get the 1300 without raisinn my deductible. I might have to stick with the 1600 I have right now, pending I can get it down by removing my dad from the policy.

I have called LM, Allstate (current carrier), and AAA.

I could take the cheap-ass way and get no-fault, but I prefer not to. It is worth the extra 1000 to not have to pay in case of an incident.

LittleBlueBMW
04-28-2004, 03:15 PM
Apparantly, the offset in the rear of the OEM E46 M wheels is too much for the E36

Wheels are going to have to be put on hold until I can sort out my insurance and how much it might actually run. But if you want to run a price check, it would be cool.

I looked at ebay and figured I might be able to assemble a set for 400-500 and then tires would be a lot of money.

Livonia (notice the spelling) cops suck A$$, got nabbed there last summer for "squealing the tires" of all things. Idiot lied in court too (to the magistrate). He didn't even remember the occurrence stating that the offense took place at a stop sign, when in fact I was proceeding through a green light.

Be careful in that area or you will be contributing to the well-being of the Livonia community as well...

I used to go on Sunday morning (6 a.m.) autobahn runs with a few bmw guys. We would take walkie talkies, radar detectors, then chat to let each other know what was up. We hit 140+ a few times on every run. That was a lot of fun, but it sure was dumb. Tamer and I hit 80 in a 25 when we saw that cop. I thought that the road was deserted and we even checked it just to make sure nobody was around. I didn't want to do anything un-safe...at least I could have used that in a court argument. :nono

Oh...and I had some dumbass in an old corvette trying to race me the other night. I burned him pretty good from a roll about 3 or 4 times. Then, when we were sitting at a stop light, he does this big tire squeeling halfass burnout once the light turned green. It would have been cool if he had about 200 more horsepower.

Anyways...he's doing about 80 and can't even keep his car in his own lane. There's a cop going the opposite direction...he doesn't do a damned thing. I bet if that was me, I'd be pulled over in a heart beat.

Come on, 25 bucks...if you drive up there, you will want to race for only an extra 25 bucks. I don't want to just race by myself.

I am going to prob head up there around 10 or so so I get there around 10:30-11ish

I can get you directions so you can meet me up there. Or just try to get done earlier and we can head up together...get it all taken care of on Saturday and then you will be golden for sunday.
