roadrace 12-01-2005, 03:16 PM Hells yeah you are out of town. i called you last night.
I just put the crappy winter steelies on but I'd still be down with some A2 pics, might motivate me to wash off the car.
speaking of car washes :D
it is snowing out right now.
Kristin... you ever get a set of springs ? dont know if M3's fit but I have a set of the H&R sports that came off my car that you can have cheap
LittleBlueBMW 12-01-2005, 07:49 PM I have yet to get springs. What are you asking for the sports? I want to gowith race but having both may not be a bad idea around these woods.
Ali//325i 12-01-2005, 08:10 PM JerseyM3- Did you ever get my email?
Ivana- do you want to get that exhaust from my mechanic or are you going to be waiting a while?
ugh...my car is almost done...just the tranny brace and its time for some snow drift action.
-Ali
Ubertino 12-02-2005, 10:41 AM Last night was a blast in GR! You gotta love the snow. Just enough traction to be safe, but enough snow to shake the wheels loose and have a ball!
Brandjas18 12-02-2005, 02:42 PM I am new to BMWs, I just bought my 95 M3 about a month ago and would like to meet with other BMW enthusiasts. If there is ever a meeting around MI please let me know. You can reach me here or at jasonmbrand@gmail.com
astor 12-03-2005, 04:16 AM welcome mate, nice m3:buttrock
gasolina 12-03-2005, 09:29 PM hey whats up you all!? I've been away for quite awhile, just got my laptop back and running.
So has anyone decided to do the M50 install over the winter? I'm gonna try it going the DIY route. I know some of you were considering, or have done it. We should get together or something.
Also, I'm in need of at least a pair of 16" wheels for my M3, don't care which ones, how shitty, as long as they are reasonably round. They are for an extra set of drift tires, so i'm not looking for "perfect" wheels. I'm in need of more than one set per drift event, been loosing out on the finals since I smoke the 1 set way before ending the day. I mention this here because I'd rather pick up a set rather than paying for shipping. Someone has to have a set of old winter wheels laying around. I have fitted the E36 325 5 double-spoke ones with no problems, and have 3 "ronal's" with some weird offset (I can't run more than 205/55/16's in the rear before rubbing the fender lip!) I could use one more of. I'd take all 4 if you have them at the right price.
See you guys around! Thanks!
Ubertino 12-10-2005, 12:46 PM Nice to see the forum working again. How's everybody taking the dump of snow?
Ali//325i 12-10-2005, 12:57 PM my cadillac loves the snow. I had to get a couple of my friends unstuck already though. Saturns suck with bald tires lol. The best part is i was doing 180s down my road to get to my friend (we live on a big hill), i stopped in the middle of the road behind where her car was stuck then pushed her all the way up the hill. Then got in my car and got up the hill no problem. And ohya, my bimmer is finally done so we will see how that does in the snow.
gasolina- if you are thinking about swapping an m50 into your e30 i would love to help with the process. Only problem is i don't know what i am doing and well, i live in grand rapids:( . What car are you getting the M50 from? I really want to either stroke my e30 or m50/m52, i just have to buy my suspension and lsd first.
Sucks being a kid without mechanical know how:rolleyes .
-Ali
DSrugis 12-10-2005, 01:15 PM I am going to be doing the DIY M50 this winter...probably starting over the x-mas break. Let me know if you are interested in helping or doing yours first :devillook
Dave
sweet poison 12-10-2005, 01:34 PM my car is just dancing back and forth on the road, but thats ok. What I hate is when it wont start... First gear no way, I have to start in 2nd and switch right to third, sucks, but otherwise it is doing well. Take care MI folks and have fun!!!
Ivana
gasolina 12-10-2005, 08:36 PM Ali, just get ahold of a Service Manual and take the plunge. I read the Bently Manual for my old '87 Jetta cover to cover (almost) in High School. I still suck, but I dare to do almost anything on my cars (tools permitting). Nothing like learning from doing (and messing up once or twice). BTW I have an E36 OBD2 M3, i got the M50 Manifold off the forum for around 150 bucks, average price for them here. I'm trying to make the car more competetive at both the drift tracks and the road course, but with only small mods nothing too drastic.
I NEED RIMS!!! AT LEAST 2!!
Dave, I'm looking at starting after 3 Kings Day (Jan 6th) (latin christmas). When are you planning on starting it? I think it can be done in a weekend.
AND GET SNOW TIRES, GUYS! Snows do miracles on a good handling car like the BMW. I have plowed through 8" (powder) fairly easily and surefooted. I have Pirelli's SnowSports whatever and they are not the best ones out there.
Ali//325i 12-11-2005, 12:29 AM Gasolina- If i had the tools i would do it. My mechanic was kind enough to offer me to work out at his shop as long as i have my own parts and stuff. I might think about it this winter. I saw a full long block assembly for $350 on the forums. I would love to keep the M20 and do a stroker, i just feel its classic to keep the old :rolleyes . But I might be willing to give it a try. You drift?!?! That's awesome, i am originally from cali and the drift scene is getting huge out there. I have wanted to either track my cabby or drift it but bimmer guys aren't too in to drifting:devillook . Well i will probably buy that bentley manual and see what i can find. Keep me updated on your progress.
Ivana- Haha have you thought about doing that exhaust or no? just wondering
Hope everyone is enjoying the snow:buttrock
-Ali
DRC10 12-11-2005, 06:28 PM Ubertino - I've been having a blast in the snow. :)
LittleBlueBMW 12-11-2005, 06:35 PM there is an old 733i for sale in A2. Let's rebuild the motor! We need more projects.
Ubertino 12-12-2005, 01:51 PM I've been in Alabama for the last week, so I missed this dump.... and the car is in the shop right now getting new tensioners (both) a new upper chain, O2 sensor, etc. I love doing work myself, but I'm paying with cash, so the labour is really cheap. And my garage is not anything close to heated, let alone big enough. One of those turn of the century deals, where it was made in horse and buggy days.
When I get it back, I know a place or two that I'm going to take it drifting (probably into drifts) and doughnuts.
And for those of you who have don't have snow tires, my m3 handles better then my pickup which has 400 lbs of weight in the back. No comparison! And when we get crazy snow, I just put a bit of weight in the back of the bmw, and all is well. Snow tires are better in many ways then 4wd with all season, because you have better traction for stopping. With a lsd in the back, it's a blast.
DSrugis 12-12-2005, 07:28 PM anyone on here NOT go to the Warren Miller ski movie this weekend???
Dave

Here is me doing a tandem drift with an E30. The little E30's do great, could use more power. I think this guy had some work done, suspension maybe, exhaust mabe, not sure. cool guy. I was like DONT GET TOO CLOSE TO MY CAR!!
This is the better one where I still had about 0.5% tires left

This other one is with 0% tires left, you can tell by the sound. I lost the match :(
SEE WHY I NEED MORE WHEELS!!!???

FST BMW 12-15-2005, 12:43 AM Thought I would stop by the boards and say HI........:buttrock
Ali how do u like your new car:evil2
Josh
jerseym3 12-15-2005, 08:26 PM hey, i was wondering if any one in the ann arbor area with a e36 car would help me out by meeting me some where so i can trace the trunk mat of thier car. i know it sounds stupid but, i've done another custom sub box in my trunk and need to make a beauty plate. and my trunk mat is still packed up in a box in the basement -{Recently moved}.. it wont take me a minute to trace it, and i can do it anywhere...
LittleBlueBMW 12-16-2005, 12:02 PM I am around all this weekend if you need to trace the mat. PM me and we'll arrange a meet time.
phillym5 12-17-2005, 12:35 PM This snow is killing me. I can't even pull my car out of the driveway.... Owell. Sping time will be here shortly.
We should set up a huge meet for early spring. We could have it at my shop. Of course I like that idea to promote and all... but it would be good to show everyone they finally have a place to get things done to there car, and to see some other cool cars.
We will be able to cater 100% to BMW's. And have the best guys doing the work, from bolt on stuff to packages to give you the power you want....or look.
josh.
Ubertino 12-17-2005, 11:31 PM I'm there for the spring. Philly, you should get some snow shoes, it'll then those 1000 ponies will have lots of fun...
phillym5 12-18-2005, 04:09 PM I can't fit wheels under 19inch...they wont clear the brakes. So, I can't justify buying A set of 19inch wheels for the snow tires to go onto....if they even make 19inch Blizzaks...
LittleBlueBMW 12-18-2005, 08:46 PM Hmm Changed the oil today when it was snowing. Had a bit of a spill when I tried to rewarm. Ooops. Nothing some cat litter didn't fix and now I have traction in my parking spot.
astor 12-18-2005, 10:47 PM is anyone going to the detroit car show? we could meet there or do something of that sort
Aaron325iT 12-22-2005, 01:50 AM I planned on going this year, so I would be down with setting somethin up.
kainam00 01-03-2006, 09:24 PM I go every year, so I'll most likely be going this year too... maybe we should start making a list or something
bvwm3 01-04-2006, 01:10 AM Deez, your car is ridiculous, im in GR too, its a shame ive never seen it on the road.
DRC10 01-04-2006, 01:17 AM Deez, your car is ridiculous, im in GR too, its a shame ive never seen it on the road.
He sold his car.
But your in GR too? What color M do you have?
Ali//325i 01-04-2006, 01:36 AM deez sold his car? bummer. I am in GR too i never see any of you guys. Oh ya, its winter time and noone drives their bmw in the winter lol. Maybe when we have a meet in the spring time i'll get a chance to see everyones car.
-Ali
DeezBMW 01-04-2006, 01:41 AM Yah I sold it last year around this time. I was laid off from work and got what I wanted out of it so its all good. I missed it this summer though thats for sure. I might build something else. Still thinkin about an E46 M3 since nobody has really modified one too much around here. I gotta be different!! :stickoutt
Ali//325i 01-04-2006, 01:58 AM Deez-lol get an e30 and be cool unlike everyone else.:buttrock Glad you got what you wanted out of it. And damn if josh would ever call me back lol i have his site almost done and i think youll be happy with it, your car and matts car was a big part of the first version of the site the second part i tried to incorporate the feeling of community so theres a ton of group shots and stuff. Its sweet though. Its just that josh is M.I.A as always:rolleyes . its kool i know hes busy but i need to get my exhaust and intake done. Anywaiz. What are you driving now that its snowing? i know you have your bike but what are you cruising in now without that sweet e36:( .
-Ali
bvwm3 01-04-2006, 04:59 PM cosmos, im out in the winter i feel bad for it but i dont make bank like everyone else on here, im still a senior in high school, no money for a winter car, just have to make do with blizzaks
Ubertino 01-04-2006, 05:35 PM an M3 in high school? Jaysus! You gotta tell me the secret to the money. I'm in cosmos black on black. I have a winter beater, but I never drive it. The car handles better, and is more fun. Bling bling baby!
bvwm3 01-04-2006, 06:52 PM haha i wish i had a secret to tell...im not done paying for it, which wouldnt be too bad i guess but modding is just too fun...therefore i don't have any:(
Ali//325i 01-04-2006, 08:50 PM bvwm3- Where do you go to school? And do you have any pics of your car. I go to northview, i am a junior this year. i have no clue how you afford insurance on that m3 of yours but kudos to you man.
-Ali
Ubertino 01-04-2006, 09:29 PM Ali- do you know a Mr. Duley? Red goatee, brownish red hair, does something with the school (heck if I can remember his title)?
Ali//325i 01-04-2006, 11:20 PM ubertino- Ya he is like a hallwalker/security guard kind of guy why do you ask? He's a pretty cool guy. and damn this snow. my e30 hasnt seen the road in a few days...seems like its going to be a few more now:rolleyes .
-Ali
Ubertino 01-04-2006, 11:39 PM He's an old friend of mine. Cool guy- one of those people that's good at just about everything. If you wanna get on his good side ask him about skiing or music.
Get some snow tires so that we can all me up sometime. You really can't loving driving a BMW until you're drifting and doing doughnuts in the snow...
Ali//325i 01-04-2006, 11:59 PM ya. He's a cool guy. I know i need snow tires but i need an LSD first. plus i have something i am thinking about buying right now. suspension/LSD is first on my list though. engine buildup is somewhere in future. but that e21 for sale (the race car one) is so damn tempting. if i was closer to that guy i would have already bought that car:mad . Life goes on though. We should have a meet up sometime when the weather isnt shitty. My windshield resavoir/ windshield sprayers dont work so i can really drive the car when it rains or snows cuz i cant see anything out of my windshield lol.
-Ali
bvwm3 01-05-2006, 01:48 AM I go to GR Christian..i dont have any pics of my car right now, i havent really done much but angel eyes and i got some nice rims from the guy i bought my blizzaks from. And just so you dont give me too much credit i struck a deal with my dad on the insurance:redspot
bvwm3 01-05-2006, 01:49 AM oh yea and deez what all did you have on that car...im pretty sure im in love with it. spare no detail please!!....
Rocket3004 01-05-2006, 03:49 AM Hey guys!
Just wanted to say hi to the fellow michigan folk.
I was going to ask... is there any local Midwest/Michigan/Detroit etc. BMW forums? I got this set of wheels I need to sell and would like to sell them locally.
Oh and if you want, stop by the local forum for Audi owners, dtwaudi.com ! I usually post there often, and there are a few other bmw owners on there as well.
Andryuha 01-05-2006, 12:34 PM So, about that autoshow..... I'm going there on 14th. Where will you guys be meeting?
LittleBlueBMW 01-08-2006, 03:10 PM So who is going to the autoshow and when? Some of my friends and I are going on the 21st, but I think I need like 2 days to see it all.

kainam00 01-09-2006, 09:34 AM I'm probably going on the 21st, no solid plans yet though
DeezBMW 01-09-2006, 09:45 AM oh yea and deez what all did you have on that car...im pretty sure im in love with it. spare no detail please!!....
Well, you name it, I proly did it at one point or another. Supercharged it, did a tranny swap, motor swap, had the motor built, suspension swap, brake swap, interior swap, custom carbon fiber work, full body kit, 4 sets of wheels over the time I owned it, stereo/video install, everything you could do with lighting, all the suspension upgrades. There wasn't a whole lot that I could do with it at that point besides uprgrading to a turbo and maybe a widebody. If you want more pictures/details feel free to E-mail me and I can share a bunch. deezbmw@comcast.net
Thanks for the compliments BTW.
astor 01-09-2006, 12:59 PM aaron and I are probably going the 21st as well...
hey bvwm3 does your dad drive a bimmer as well? i bought my car from a guy in GR whose son had a 95 m3 in high school. i gots the silver 328i
roadrace 01-09-2006, 01:40 PM So who is going to the autoshow and when? Some of my friends and I are going on the 21st, but I think I need like 2 days to see it all.
You wont need 2 days!!!! but I would recomend getting there when it opens and you will need almost all day.
BTW
I take it those springs wont work? If you know anyone that needs a set of 96-99M3HRsports send them my way.

astor 01-09-2006, 07:49 PM hey it's great! gonna probably replace most of the suspension next week though...i love it, great car, got some snow tires on it for the winter. whats your dad driving, was it a red 325i? tell him the 328 is doin great. hows your m3?

Yeah only the rears will work unfortunately.
Ubertino 01-12-2006, 05:33 PM So get this all, I was in Hansen's collision on the East Beltline in Kentwood, and there, in the back of the lot is a brand spanking new m5! Yep, like 500 hp, $95k and some change, etc.
Great story behind it. This guy takes delivery from Sharpe, without snow tires, says he'll drive it all winter long. Which he does. In 1600 miles, without the engine even being broken in, this guy gets in 3 accidents- a couple of head on collisions (can't stop on snow with those conti performance tires) and he goes off the road and slams into an abankment.
Hansen's has to buy a $20k tool just to fix the rivets on the car. The entire front end needs to be replaced, and then some. More then 6 grand for the airbags.
I think that this is the best example of a BMW owner who should be stripped of the privelage of ownership. Fortunatly for him, it'll take them three to four months to do the work, so it won't be ready until march or april at the earliest, when he won't need snow tires.
And he was dropped by his insurance after this last accident (the other two were fairly minor, just 8-9 thousand buck apiece to fix).
Josh- Jeff at hanen's says hi. Rumor has it you detuned your beast of a car. Good to know that at least your M5 is in the hands of somebody who knows how to drive. Maybe we can have an intervention with this other guy?

Asshats like this make insurance higher for the rest of us. Not to mention make awesome cars less awesome.
You know another thing that makes it impossible for a person to drive/crash a car is a nice swift kick in the balls. That's what I vote for for this guy!
LittleBlueBMW 01-12-2006, 08:07 PM Hey what color is it? There was a burgendy-like one at the CCa party that had been sold.
Ubertino 01-13-2006, 12:38 PM I think it was black, I'll be back at hanses so that can finish up some work, I'll find out more then.
I like the kick in the balls. It might inhibit the guys ability to be a dick.
Ali//325i 01-13-2006, 09:36 PM people like him make me sick. just like all those pictures of smashed ferrari's and lambo's and 911's. Its rediculous that people who buy those cars are not REQUIRED to take some serious driving school before they are ALLOWED to purchase one:rolleyes . Anywaiz. I am thinking of getting new suspension for the e30 and possibly a new LSD diff. Anybody feel like helpin out? if you like i can throw in the money for the beer and the time spent. i cant drink but i hear beer helps the modding process:rolleyes . I dont have tons of tools either so i really need to find all the stuff i am going to need. I think i have every stupid socket every made in both standard and metric unit lol, but i dont have torque wrenches and things like that. My cabby needs some serious TLC. So if anyone is interested one of these weekends or something i would love to order my stuff and get some help. If i dont get help from you guys it means i have to go to my ex gfs house to work on my car.
Her dad is a huge bmw guy,and they are loaded, and shes brazilian, dont ask why i am not married to her yet lol but on an even more depressing note.
A friend of mine, whose father just passed away this year, is on vacation in japan and at the tokyo auto show right now:eyecrazy . He has pictures of r34 skylines and s15's and these crazy vipers and ferraris...he said japanese people LOVE american and european cars. thats kinda funny because of how much money we all spend to make our cars EURO or JDM(for the ricer kids)...and they spend just as much to be like us. anywaiz, i should prolly get back to work. It's such a long day. school from 7-2:30 then work from 3-11:30 . Hope everyone is having a good night.
-Ali
BTW, PhillyM5, I wanted to ask you when you were opening that new shop, and if you guys would like a website designed for your shop. let me know i can deffinently help you out, and for cheap. Cheap, cheap is good.
Ubertino 01-13-2006, 09:55 PM I have lots of jack stands, jack, torque wrench, random assorted crap that comes from working on cars. PM me and we can do something on a Sunday (the one day out of the week that I usually, kind of, sort of, some of the time don't work.
Beer is a good lubricant for mechanical work, along with cheese-its and doritos. I think that the cheese-its work as an abrasive compound that is used somewhere along the drive train. All I know is that they're all gone at the end of the job.
Ali//325i 01-16-2006, 09:54 PM suspension is ordered. For any of you that know anything about e30's. I purchased I.E. Stage 3 springs (all around great springs with a pretty nice drop) and bilstein sports. Along with new upper rear shock mounts. Next week or 2 comes the sways and a few urethane bushings here and there haha. OMG the weather has been amazingly nice for this time of year. Its still a wee chilly but i actually see the sun now.
Ubertino- I PMed you about the whole suspension install thing. I should have my stuff by friday of this week. So if you still feel up to it i got some money for the lubricants and abrasive compound lol.
the weather isnt too bad out guys. Maybe if you guys can get yourselves to bring your cars out we could ACTUALLY meet up this time. I say we pick somewhere with either beer or really really good food. Then everyone will want to go.
-Ali
P.S. I will post some pics of my cabby soon since i havent posted pics of my car at all.
Ubertino 01-17-2006, 11:41 AM I'm there, I'll call you when the time gets closer. Sunday shouldn't be a problem. Stage 3 is a good way to go, from the reading I've done, it's going to have the same kind of handling charecteristics of an M3, or even better with the increased drop. Pretty cool...
Ali//325i 01-17-2006, 07:55 PM ubertino- Cool man. I really appreciate the help. Just to warn you though I haven't done any extensive suspension work on cars before. Except for swapping springs on a 94 honda del sol. So I am hoping you can help me out with that. I will make sure i get the write up on the suspension swap and have a bentley manual handy to keep the job smooth.
Sooo...anyone else a little upset about the crappy weather forecast? I can't believe how awesome the weather has been up until this point though...i guess it makes it okay.

astor 01-17-2006, 08:35 PM im ready for the snow, seeing as how i already wasted 330 on the snowtires
kainam00 01-18-2006, 09:27 AM Damn snow... took me twice as long to get to work!
zrozof 01-20-2006, 12:47 AM What's up everyone. I'm just wondering where everyone takes their cars in the southeast mi area. What are some of the good indy shops?
LittleBlueBMW 01-20-2006, 11:50 PM who is going to the autoshow tomorrow? who wants to meet up? my friends are flakes.
kainam00 01-21-2006, 12:55 AM I actually went on Thursday since I have class tomorrow and a possible business meeting :-\
The show was pretty cool though, you can even sit in the new M5 and M6 aaand the Carrera 4 (smoothest shifting transmission of all cars there btw!). I don't think they let you get into those cars previous years.
Ali//325i 01-21-2006, 03:01 AM I am going tomorrow most likely if the roads dont suck too much. But i have class in the morning so i won't be able to leave till like 11:30 or so.
Got my suspension today guys. Needless to say i havent stopped smiling.
-Ali
Ubertino 01-21-2006, 12:25 PM Then I might have to be giving you a call tomorrow (Sunday) and we're going to have to work on dropping that shit in.
Do you have a bentley's?
astor 01-22-2006, 01:24 AM dammit i didnt read this thread before i went to the autoshow on saturday
Ali//325i 01-22-2006, 02:56 AM ubertino- Sounds good man. Give me a call anytime. i dunno where you want to do this. We can do it at my house or somewhere else. To be quite honest with you i have no clue what i am doing, and i have yet to get that bently manual. For my 5speed swap we were using an e36 one, and the directions or little diagrams that came with the bilstiens were for both the e30 and e36 so i ono. I would prefer to do it at my house if you have anyway of transporting the tools and such, only becasue if we cant get it done in one day or need to wait on some bolts or something, i kinda would rather have it at my house so i don't have to leave my car at your house and have it get in your way or wherever else we can do it.
OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!1!!1!1111!!!!11!!!!111!!!!!1!!ONE.. .....The ferrari FXX was NOT there:eek: . Needless to say i was furious. We asked one of the gorgeous ferrari chicks and she said it was a customers and he took it home friday. AND OF COURSE I HAD TO GO THERE ONE DAY AFTER:mad . Anywaiz, there was also NO carrera gt, it sucked. But it was cool to go downstairs and see pastrana's rally car. Hopefully i'll see him next weekend at Sno*drft.
On a lighter note, exams are done and i have a kickass suspension to install. Anybody else havin a good weeked.
-Ali
P.S. Did anyone see the vanquish S hiding behind these crazy glass walls or were me and my friends the only ones to see it?
roadrace 01-22-2006, 04:37 PM who is going to the autoshow tomorrow? who wants to meet up? my friends are flakes.
guess I am a little late on reading this:dunno :mad
Ubertino 01-22-2006, 05:06 PM I'm all about your place. I can fit all the stuff in my trunk, or in my truck. No worries. I would definitly order the bentley's on the car this week. We can probably do most of the suspension stuff without it, but you'll need the book for other things in the future. It's the best thing you could possibly buy for your car, period.
LittleBlueBMW 01-22-2006, 05:28 PM Went to the autoshow. BMW VIP Lounge for all owners. Just show a BMW ignition key.
Enzo FXX was only there for media days. Made me sad.
OK GUYS QUESTION: H&R RACE OR SPORT SPRINGS?
Ubertino 01-22-2006, 05:47 PM Race is gonna be a bit harsher, lower then sport, at least from what I know, which isn't much. A lot will also depend on your shocks.
LittleBlueBMW 01-22-2006, 06:08 PM Adjustable Koni's
Ubertino 01-22-2006, 06:54 PM Not that I've had them, but from a little bit of research, the race springs will lower the car more then the sport, will have more dynamic handling, but at the expense of a harsh ride. If you live in the Detroit area like I used to, it might be a bad idea- you'll shake your car to pieces on the crap roads. Not that there's anything better over here. :buttrock
The sport will lower the car, but not as much, and will absorb some of the harshness from the road. Might be the better way to go, unless you're using the car for mostly racing and autocross. I'm all about aggressive and using performance parts, but there are a few things that you gotta be careful of- large rims, which stress the suspension more then the stock, and dropping the car, which does the same thing. If you lower the car as much as the racing springs will allow, then you'll want aftermarket sways to accomodate the difference in height, and probably a careful evaluation of your bushings- the harsher ride will rip out anything that is starting to go bad- ie control arm bushings, rtabs, etc. Even if you go with the sport, there will be consequenses for the rest of the car.
My m3 was tracked 20-30 days per year by the previous owner, used as a daily driver, but well maintained. I got a great price, but the aftermarket springs, shocks, sways and wheels beat the hell out of the car. Now the interior squeeks where panels have been jostled for so long, and every piece of rubber on the suspension needed replacement.
Just my 2 cents. PhillyM5 would probably be a good person to talk to having probably done either all of this, or much of it.
Anybody else with experiences on H&R?
DRC10 01-22-2006, 09:07 PM Whats up guys.
Anyone looking for some wheels, sellin mine. 18'x8.5 chrome, big lip. Front tires have good tread but with dibbles in side walls, back have alot of tread and seem to be good. I'll let them go VERY cheap. Consider it buying tires and getting free wheels.
psychocandy 01-22-2006, 09:35 PM I also have a rim/tire setup for sale (Dunlop winter sports) for a 95-01 740i. I haven't seen many Michigan people with 740's, but I though I would post anyway just in case.
1 day left in auction, free local delivery:

Ali//325i 01-22-2006, 10:39 PM DRC10- if 18" wheels didnt look absolutely rediculous on my car i'd buy em from you. ;) .
Does anyone know when phillym5 is going to open his shop? or if it's already open? Trying to find a good place to rebuild my engine. Dont have any tools, haha i cant even do my suspension, let alone do an engine rebuild. Maybe he'll chime in sometime soon. Honestly i just wanna see that m5 of his:eek: .
psychocandy- Is your m3 still for sale? I showed my dad and he was pretty interested but he doesnt need a 3k sound system lol. He also needs to get rid of that stupid sentra SE-R Spec V we bought, so he can be more interested. Would you be willing to sell that car without the sound system or is it pretty much a package only deal.

Ali, M3 is still for sale. I will probably part out the sound system on eBay and lower the price accordingly. Funny, I just came to this decision today so the timing is interesting. It might take me a few weeks to take care of all the details, so keep in touch and maybe we can work something out. Good luck selling the Sentra.

OK GUYS QUESTION: H&R RACE OR SPORT SPRINGS?
I'd stick with H&R Sport. IMO, H&R Race is to soft for such a low drop. More of a "show" spring than a "race" spring.
LittleBlueBMW 01-23-2006, 12:16 PM Thanks Guys. Found H&R sports at Zygmunt for 150.00
TireFryer 01-23-2006, 08:30 PM hey MI folks...
don't ask why, but the Bavarian Mistress is up for immediate sale. MI people have first dibs on it.
my 1990 Euro E34 M5 diamond black metallic
more info with service history and mods/upgrades in the 5 Series forum.
pass on the word. I would love for her to stay in MI :)
Ali//325i 01-23-2006, 08:38 PM  I WANT YOUR M5 haha. But dare i ask the price :rolleyes . I would love to see this car in person so hopefully it will stay in MI. Would look nice in my garage next to my e30....hmmmm...Good luck with the sale man.

TireFryer 01-23-2006, 09:02 PM $14.5K but bring reasonable offers to the table. There is no fluff on the value of the car as is evident to anyone who has one of these cars or knows about them. I looked for about 2 years to find this gem... I did a lot of legwork for someone, but that's ok. I guarantee it, the first person to come look at the car, will drive it away. The car speaks for itself.
kainam00 01-24-2006, 09:52 AM Wish I had the money... can only afford about 2/3 of your car right now :(
TireFryer 01-24-2006, 10:09 AM let's talk and figure stuff out. 2/3 is way less, but there's always a way :buttrock
get in touch with me...
astor 01-24-2006, 10:36 AM what's your reason for selling?
TireFryer 01-24-2006, 10:43 AM family stuff and just how the economic landscape is these days... need to liquidate fun "non-essential" toys.
Trust me, I didn't spend a better part of 2 years trying to find this car only to keep it for a few months and sell it... read the posts in the 5 series forum and MANY members have and will chime in to back me up on this. I would love to have the option to buy back the car from whoever buys it if it goes back up for sale again!
again, if interested, don't take my word for it...come take a look in person and you'll agree :)
Ubertino 01-24-2006, 12:07 PM I don't have the money to buy it, but I'll trade you my m3... :cool
It's a shame that it's getting sold before I ever really get a chance to look at it...
TireFryer 01-24-2006, 12:18 PM appreciate the offer, but again the M3 would be a "FUN TOY" which is why I am selling the beast ;)
spread the word as there is a finder's fee for y'all :)

My shop is now open. We are starting in a small place, but have some serious engine dudes in there. Im sure we could definatly work out something for you. It is located on the 7200 block of S. Division. I dont have the phone number off hand....I am out of the country, and all the numbers and stuff for the shop got set up while i've been gone. I think I'll be back in a couple days, so I will post the info for ya.
PS.....we are also doing powder coating, stereos, tv's, suspensions, wheels, you name it. Oh.......we also have a knarly body guy for bumpers,sideskirts....whatever.
Anyway. Im out.
Ubertino 01-25-2006, 01:29 AM Philly- I just gotta say that it's a very nice move to open a shop here in GR now. Division real estate is blowing up, and more people are moving into the area as the medical mile gets developed. Good market of high income people, many of whom are waiting to become gear heads...
Ali//325i 01-25-2006, 11:11 PM Philly- Sounds good man i will definently check it out sometime. There is this M50 engine tempting me and some s50 cams, that i can't get outta my head so maybe I will have them sometime soon. I also need a new front bumper of mine painted so maybe You guys could help me out with that. I also wanted to offer you a website man. I am starting my web design company and finding jobs is pretty difficult but I dont charge much at all and i do some pretty dynamic sites. If you are interested I could prolly do one for you for little charge or even free if you guys want one. Let me know sometime.
Ubertino- My exgf's dad has to do his e46 suspension as well. So maybe we can work on both of them that day. I ono he is gonna be there along with a buddy of his. I also bought new exhaust and catless midpipe that should be here tommorrow. I am going to the rally up north friday and saturday so sunday morning i am going to wash out all the grease and shit in my garage and if you are still interested i would appreciate the extra help.
What do you guys think of swapping an m50 into my e30? I would probably buy s50 cams and theres a larger port intake manifold for liek 150 or so on ebay so maybe i could pick that up aswell. But i dont know if the price for the m50 is justifiable i mean its about 550 shipped for the engine less intake manifold. I would need a few other minor pieces but it should be around 1300 or so with everything minus work if i have to have someone help me install it. what do you guys think is it worth it?
-Ali
astor 01-26-2006, 02:02 AM well if you ask me i'd get an e36
E46KICKS 01-26-2006, 10:38 PM I'm from the Mount Clemens area, any more east and I'd be swimming.
I just got an 02/330i
Looking forward to any events in Michigan.
Just posted to say . . . 'hey'!
Ubertino 01-27-2006, 12:46 AM Deez or Philly- Either of your shops have any experience with vanos? Might need either a new unit, a new selinoid, or god knows something else. Having a bad rattle noise, and I just replaced both tensioners and the upper chain itself. Any input would be beauty. If anybody has any ideas, please chime in.
sweet poison 01-28-2006, 06:07 PM hey guys, how is everybody? My Grandpa passed away on the 14th of Jan. So I did not go anywhere out and missed the carshow this year, hope everybody had fun. Well bad news here, somebody keyed my hood, and its all across the hood, so scratch doctors problebly wouldnt do much work there. Anybody knows approx> how much a hood paint job would cost and where the best place is for that. A stone hit my windshield and it cracked, so I have to fix that too. I have full ins. on my car and my deductable is $100 on comprehensive. So I will problebly just claim it all under ins, because just my windshield costs $500.
Tx, Ivana
Ali//325i 01-29-2006, 11:02 AM Ivana- I am sorry to hear about your loss. The car show wasn't that amazing so don't worry, you didn't miss much. Anywaiz, I would talk to phillym5 about getting your hood resprayed. I dont think they do new windshields lol but He said they had a great body shop guy so I would assume he can respray your hood for you.
Ubertino- I am going to autozone right now. About 10:00 am to see if i can rent a space heater, tie rod puller, and spring compressor. My exgfs dad is coming at around noon hopefully, i still need to clean some of the crap out of my garage like all the oil on the ground and stuff just to make shure its not like swimming in car fluids. So if you would like to help still i would deffinently appreciate it. I think you still have my number so just call me if you are still interested. Thanks man.
BTW the rally was pretty sweet this weekend. I saw atleast 3 lancer evo's. an evo 4 and 2 evo 5's.....and those were just the street cars. It was pretty sweet to see those guys ripping through the snow/slush/gravel/ice. Rally america did a good job with it. You guys should check one out some time.
-Ali
sweet poison 01-30-2006, 12:25 PM Thanks, Ali, I will see tomorrow about an estimate and I think I will just claim it all on ins., thats what they are here for right. Anyways guys Ivana is turning 21 this sat :redspot :alright and I will most likely go with my friend Antonela to the level on friday night, I told some of my friends to come, so if anyone of you wants to come I would be more then happy to buy you drinks. I usually doint drink, just occasionally a glass of wine or so, so I wont be getting drunk or anything , but everybody else is more then welcome to drink.
Thanks Ivana!
760list 01-30-2006, 03:56 PM oh fun...can I come! pleeeeeeeze....
astor 01-30-2006, 04:38 PM pick up a carbon fibre hood :D
760list 01-30-2006, 04:47 PM I don't think you can scratch a cf hood either, or not very easily. That would be way hot.
Ubertino 01-30-2006, 05:33 PM You could probably buy a cf hood for not much more then the price of the repaint. The problem is that your insurance will probably not cover a new hood, but will cover a paint job. Depends on what you can work out with the body shop. You might be able to get the shop to order a hood, and use the insurance check to pay for it, depending.
Happy Birthday!

astor 01-30-2006, 06:17 PM good luck finding a CF hood for a 5 series 4 door. had a hard time finding a hood for a 3er 4door
Ali//325i 01-30-2006, 07:13 PM sweet poison- great...yet again, Too young to do anything cool, ugh. Ohwell my suspension and exhaust is going to keep me busy. Also i dont know how much i would like a 540 with a Cfiber hood :help. Happy Birthday!!! :happybday I would buy you something cool but i think the most i can afford right now is a subway sub, which i will be getting after i get out of work...yum.
Ubertino- Hey adam. I am ordering suspension techniques sway bar kit. massive 25mm f/ 19mm rear for only 268 + the price of new links. Brand new even. I also ordered my gaskets for my exhaust, and the upper front strut mounts. So everything should be here by the end of the week becasue i did express shipping so i figure one day to process and at the most 2 days for delivery. I owe you big time man. By the way. The rear has a great drop on it. I just have some great negative camber lol. My tires are gonna wear funny but i need new ones soon because i will be buying a different wheel/tire setup, so i am not too worried about it. If you still wanna help me finish teh front suspension i am looking more towards the weekend to finish it up because my boss is being a prick and making me work right when i get out of school till 9:30 every night this week...ugh. Let me know man.
pnyklr 02-01-2006, 12:24 AM Hey guys another michigan guy here! This may sound like a weird request, but I need some blown junk front struts for a 3-series. I can pick em up. Thanks guys.
Ubertino 02-01-2006, 12:52 AM Ali- no worries man. It's nice to work on the part of car that I can fix, like the suspension. It's my stoopid engine that's pissing me off. Might have a solution for it soon though... Going to Euro Autowerks to see what they might have to say about the problem. We should be able to knock out the front suspension in an afternoon, once those little screws get drilled out. It doesn't look like there is anything that we can do with the front struts until then, but we can drop the swaybar on.
This weekend I've got family coming over, so I'm thinking that I'm not going to have much time. The swaybar is something that you can do yourself, not much work, it just unbolts. The struts aren't that bad either, once you get the fR!!$%ing rotors off.
gasolina 02-01-2006, 12:00 PM So people the race season is getting closer, so I need to start finding some track wheels for the M3. I'm looking for a pair, 16"s, that will fit over my stock rear brakes (should be easy). I know for a fact that the typical 325 5-double spokes fit. I need them for an extra set of drift tires, so i really don't care if they ae prety or not, curb rash, out of round, etc. As long as they hold air and are somewhat round. I will consider 17"s too, but I'm low on funds and can't afford another set of 7.5" double spokes (i wish i could). If the wheels have old tires on, even better! I would like to have the wheels by the end of Feb. so I can get tires (each wheel will change my tire choice - with the wheels I have for dirft now all I can use is 205/55/16's or smaller due to the offset - which are hard tires to come by at the local used tire lots).
And at a latter date I'm looking to buy a set of race tires, 225/40/17 Hoosiers or something like them. I know you can find tires used by pro drivers for quaifying, just need the hookup. As long as I can get a couple track days on them I'm happy. I will need these towards the end of march/early april.
Post replys or PM me, please!

If you can, hang on to it. Bimmerfest is going to be in Grand Rapids this year. You could probably sell it there for a pretty penny.
Ubertino.......I do have a BMW mechanic on call to help fix issues like vanos. His prices are pennies on the dollar compared to dealer costs. Give me more specifics of your problem, and I can give you a estimate based on what he says. Ultimatly it would between you and him....but you both are more than welcome to do it at the shop.
Sweet poison.....There are a ton of companies that make those CF hoods for the E39. Try looking at MAShaw. Google that name. They usually have good quality at affordable prices.
Ali//325i 02-05-2006, 01:07 PM I hate suspension. :censored:
So we get the rotors off. We get everything disconnected. We get to the tie rod ends. Hammer those out no problem. We get to the control arm pinion. we spent 3 hours on the drivers side. Took a break and went to the passenger side. Got that one out in 2 whacks. took the complete strut assembly off the passenger side and set it on the ground and went back to the driver side....No luck, Still. So we go to the strut assembly that we have out. We figure we could atleast have 3/4 done before we call more people for help. The instructions are to compress the springs. Done. Then grip the strut(the metal part) with a pair of vice grips :confused and loosen the top nut. We are skeptical, but do it anywaiz. By this time we have been working on my car since 3 in the afternoon and its about 9 now. Needless to say my strut assembly is still laying on a cardboard box in my garage. The driver side is still on the car, without the new pieces. And to top it off we figure we might as well get the sway bar in while we have the room on one side of the car. We get the old one out after some wrestling, then we have to figure out how to put the larger diameter one in there. No luck. Now we have never done any suspension work before. or any real work on a car for that matter, but we did everything according to the write up and everything. Now I have to find a way to get the control arm pinion out of my strut assembly on the driver side and ya. AND to top it off my new exhaust I bought has a leak between the catback and the catless midpipe. We tried using the stock size metal rings but I think we need to use the larger one we got on one of the pipes.
Needless to say my saturday did not go as planned. :mad . Hopefully my car will be done sometime soon. Hope everyone is going to have a good superbowl sunday. :buttrock

astor 02-05-2006, 11:40 PM hey sam nice meeting you too. i hope you had a good time in michigan! next time bring up one of the big bimmers.
TireFryer 02-06-2006, 12:47 AM If you can, hang on to it. Bimmerfest is going to be in Grand Rapids this year. You could probably sell it there for a pretty penny.
thanx josh for the heads up :)
I did a search about bimmefest 2006 and found this... VF'06 in L.A., CA?
http://www.bimmerfest.com/events/2006SB/2006sb.php
is there a different BF I am missing? it would be AWESOME if it is in GR :alright
astor 02-06-2006, 04:32 AM he's talkin about oktoberfest
1992BMW325i 02-06-2006, 03:52 PM from way up north cheboygan to be exact really like anything to do with bimmers but little show my love
Ubertino 02-07-2006, 01:07 AM Philly- After lots of searching (search is not my friend, it is my enemy) I found a thread that is pretty much exactly my problem. The vanos doesn't need to be replaced, just, well, remachined. Sort of. There's a rattling at the front of my engine. I've replaced both primary and secondary tensioners and the upper chain. Noise went away for a brief period of time, and now is back, but instead of happening belowe 2.5k on the rev down, like before, it's above 2.5, and it makes noises if I rev down or up. Gotta be the vanos, I hope.
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=461792
So I've ordered a used but working vanos, which I will have sent to the elusive "Mickey" in Florida to get the machining done. Then, I'll swap out my noisey but working unit and turn and sell that to somebody else. I'm thinking of doing the labor myself, but I'm gonna have to rent the tools. Not like I have a crank lock, or cam locks, or anyother kind of proprietary lock laying around. I'd love to chat with your guy, see what he has to say about things, and maybe address a few other issues that I'm having with the black hole. Cosmos black.
You can post me, email me, pm me, or even call me, I think my number was posted a while back, but my memory doesn't go that far.
Thanks for any help here-
Ube.
ALI- you get those rotors drilled, or did you muscle them out?
Ali//325i 02-07-2006, 10:40 AM adam- I had the passenger side drilled. We actually didnt NEED if off becasue 2 hammer whacks and the passenger side tie rod end and control arm poped out. I am still trying to figure out what i am going to do about the driver side control arm. we have the tie rod out, but the control arm is killing me. I am trying to see if i can get both control strut assemblies out and atleast attempt to get the struts out. I doubt i can because my huge vice grips deffinently weren't doin the trick. With my half inch socket driver. so thats our only real problem right now. The sway bar seems like it needs a magician to get back in lol but we can figure it out and the new sway bar end links i got are gorgeous and they are adjustable...i dont know if that is a cool feature or not but they are adjustable......dude i need to get this car done soon i am getting sick of scrapping my other car off every morning. so maybe sometime this weekend or whenever you get time i would deffinently appreciate the help. Worst comes to worse i bring my strut assemblies to a shop and have the shop rip them apart.
Anywaiz...school sucks..but whatever. Hope everyone else is having a good day today. I hate my technology teacher, he needs a better education haha.
-Ali
Ubertino 02-07-2006, 12:04 PM For the control arm, get a pickle from auto zone. The problem with using a pickle is that there's a good chance that you're going to destory the boot on the ball joint. But it works. That tie rod remover might do the trick once you get the rotor and dust shield off. Once you get that lowered from the car, I'm not sure I'm seeing the problem. Sounds like an excuse for me to drop in on Sunday, or perhaps some evening this week. We'll have to figure something out.
Sucks having to drive anything other then the bimmer. I don't hate my truck, I just don't like it nearly as much as my car.
Ali//325i 02-07-2006, 06:37 PM Ubertino- The outter ball joint on the passenger side is a little funky anywaiz so maybe i will just by new ones. If I cant hammer that old one out. I will post up tonight after i try it when i get out of work.
Does anyone know anyone who has experience with OSCOMMERCE ? ,my work (not my company) is looking into doing ecommerce website with it and i am incharge of that end of it so i need to figure that out. let me know if you guys know anyone.
-Ali
phillym5 02-07-2006, 07:20 PM Ubertino.....
Sounds good. Basically the BMW mechanic probably wouldn't do the rebuild of the vanos. My guys at the shop probably wouldn't either. As far as getting a new one and replacing it... no problem. But it sounds like you know what your doing on that end.
Got a new daily driver......check it out.
02 SMG. I love it.
Ubertino 02-07-2006, 09:41 PM Um, that car is sick. Grand Rapids roads will destroy it. Whatever did you do with the M5?
I still would like to check out your shop, I'm gonna need a new clutch one of these days, and there are all sorts of stoopid shitty little rattles and knocks that I want to get rid of. Old cars suck like that. If your garage can give me a good price on the vanos, and they've got the tools for the cams and crank, then I'm there with work. I don't want to rent, as much as I like wrenching, my garage isn't heated.
Side note- Chris Curless (buddy of mine) says hey.
Ali- we'll get it squared away. I'll call when I got some time, otherwise god speed with the work.
Ali//325i 02-07-2006, 11:27 PM Philly- 7200 division st is the actual address of your shop? Whenever my front bumper gets here i will have to bring it out to get painted and such. Maybe even talk about some custom side skirts or something. I think I have put enough money into my e30 for awhile though. But maybe if i can get the bumper painted for around 200-250 that would be sweet. I need to stop out sometime.
adam- i didnt get a chance to hammer on the control arm but tomorrow i will. I will update you.
I had a question for you guys...What cam profile would be best for overall performance. the stock grind on my cam is 262 (M20 SOHC engine). They sell 272, 282, and above 300 or something like that. I only ask because my engine will either need a rebuild or to be swapped soon and as much as i research i get a million different answers. Any info would be great. I realize the Cam only shifts the power band i just dont know what profile would be the best all around, basically a streetable cam profile that will also help with spirited/track driving.
-Ali
phillym5 02-08-2006, 12:49 AM The actual address is 7700 s. Division.
The phone # is....616.281.0055
Michigan roads arent soooo bad.....You just got to keep your eyes open and remember were the bad spots are.
I still have the M5. Here is a recent photo under the hood while giving it some TLC.
Nevermind...the photo is too big to upload. But anyway...its still around.
I'll let you know about that vanos. Ill shoot you a PM.
Ubertino 02-08-2006, 12:57 AM Ali- If you're looking at a rebuilt/swapped engine in a while, then there's no sense in doing much to your engine right now. Unless you have the right tools, cams are a huge pita. I'd just make the engine run, get the beast on the road, and then a little while down the road think about things that you can do.
Also, I need to revamp/snazz up my website. Lemme know if you have any ideas and prices. Anybody else who's interested in seeing some slightly unusual photography, feel free to look.

TireFryer 02-08-2006, 08:14 AM That is a wicked M3! :D
not too shabby, if I do say so myself ;)
Brandjas18 02-08-2006, 09:21 PM I am new to the BMW sceene and live in Canton MI, close to AA or Detroit, I was just wondering how many people are from around there and if there is anything ever going on around my side of town? I would like to meet some people and hangout or something? let me know, email me if u wanna, JasonMbrand@gmail.com
Thanks all
Ali//325i 02-08-2006, 10:28 PM adam- The reason i was asking for the cam was because if I rebuild my engine its going to be a stroker setup. My dad is playing with the idea of getting a project car in the next few months so I will have to wait and see what he wants do to with that. I know he's either looking for an e30 or an e36, and more than likely it will be a 10-12k budget including the car which is pretty big. My cabby doesnt need tons of power, but if I am going to rebuild it I might as well do it right the first time. Only problem is I don't have a lot of tools, as you found out :rolleyes . So rebuilding my own engine is going to be a problem. As soon as I get my suspension done and drive it around for a few weeks, I will look more seriously into the rest of my drivetrain, ie. Engine and diff. So in due time. Btw man I like the pics.
Philly-Thanks for the info I will definently stop by as soon as I get my bumper.
Have a good day!:buttrock

A bunch of guys from Ferndale and Ann Arbor are getting together to catch Broke Back Mountain later this month...:alright
Have you seen it yet?
LittleBlueBMW 02-10-2006, 06:22 PM I need a trailer tomorrow to move my project car from somewhere near Royal Oak to Ypsi. Anyone wanna help?
Ubertino 02-12-2006, 11:54 PM For some reason the forum doesn't show me threads when I go to my control panel. Suck. Sorry Ivana, just got your message.
For the west michigan folks- stopped at Modified FX, PhillyM5's place. Both guys seem pretty cool. They know engines, and are willing to work on Bimmers, and they've got a connection on special BMW tools and a few other odds and ends. Good hourly rate too. Might be worth a try, they're down on Division near 76th st. Definitly FI people, lots of stuff for custom fabbed headers and more toys.
Ali, update?
Ali//325i 02-13-2006, 12:18 AM adam, ya man I decided since my balljoints are shit anywaiz I will just get some new control arms with balljoints allready installed. I figure i might as well do it while the car is in the condition it is now. Its only gonna be like 200 bucks for both control arms with the ball joints installed and new bushings to go to the subframe. So thats looking like the best option. The sway bar is waiting to install i have it all in and just need to be bolted on but i was going to wait till the spring and shocks are in. I will call and order those new control arms and stuff tomorrow. I think i only have a few more bushings to replace and my suspension is completely done lol. I will probably need some help sometime if you get a chance. I have wed. off work and the weekends as well. So just let me know.
On a happier note it snowed again today.....oh wait...thats not a good thing:mad . But i did find a nice white e30 in traverse city that i will be going to look at for my dad:devillook .

Ubertino 02-13-2006, 12:25 AM My brake lights don't work. At all. I'm pissed. I've been fucking with the car all afternoon trying to track down the short, the problem, the whatever. It's all posted.
I still love my car, I just hate all the money I have to drop into maintaining the thing. Still haven't been able to do any mods, something keeps on coming up everytime I turn around.
It's all rationalized by me remembering that it's got over 100k, so lots of little things are going to go wrong. And when fixed, they won't go wrong again for another 100k. I hope.
Ali//325i 02-13-2006, 12:48 AM Man....why could I have the car in its prime...ohwell.
Adam, did you like short out a fuse or what? They just stopped working? Weird. Hopefully you can get it fixed it would be nice to see your car sometime.
So I need everyones opinion, I bought a front bumper from a moderator on one of the e30 forums and he has had my payment for like 2 months, but i have yet to recieve the bumper, and he hasnt contacted me in almost 2 or 3 weeks. What should I do? I really want this bumper but its been so damn long. He said he had it all boxed up and ready to go just needed to send it out....that was last month...Your thoughts? You would think a guy like that would have the courtesy to atleast contact me. Another guy bought a bumper from him as well and got it like a week or so later...That made me super suspicious but he reasurred me that wasnt my bumper...I am calling BS on this guy. What should I do?
-Ali
Ubertino 02-13-2006, 01:09 AM Give him an opprotunity to defend himself. If he doesn't get the bumper do you, or a tracking number, then plaster the boards with what a ripoff he is. And put him in the parts feed back section as a bad bad man. Find out what section of the forum he sits in and make it your duty and mission to f$#! with him. But make sure he has the option to send it to you first.
DSrugis 02-13-2006, 08:34 AM Jason, welcome to the area. Most people are hybernating now and will come out in the spring with meets and drives and shows...
Kristen, What is your project car? Post some pics.
Dave
Ali//325i 02-13-2006, 10:40 AM adam, sounds like a good idea. My Control arms should be here in a few days because I ordered them priority. So ya, pretty good deal, and it should be done soon.
Thats true everyone is hibernating. Maybe when it gets warm we could have a meet or something, if we can ever decide on where to go and when.
-Ali
Ubertino 02-13-2006, 02:19 PM Hell, when I get my brake lights working again, I'm game for a meet in the winter. Prize for the dirtiest BMW!
LittleBlueBMW 02-13-2006, 04:20 PM Project: Scary Looking E30
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=482987
Good pics at post 6.
Step one: Get engine to run. Pull of front end and pull the radiator from the fan, jump car.
Ubertino 02-13-2006, 04:41 PM Makes me wish that I was living in Detroit again... But my girlfriend would be PISSED if spent even more time working with cars.
Got my brake lights working... for now.
Anybody want to meet tonight?
Ali//325i 02-13-2006, 06:22 PM lol ill meet if i can come in the caddy becasue well...the e30 is going to be a while. And if we are having a competition of the dirtiest Bimmer i definently will win.
-Ali
BTW I might be trading my caddy for a 1994 525i. or possibly buying a 1990 black 535i to replace the caddy if i sell it . They both have around 130k on them. Interior and exterior is gorgeous...What do you guys think?
LittleBlueBMW 02-13-2006, 07:04 PM Damn you Grand Rapids people. You are better at meeting up than we are out here.
Ubertino 02-13-2006, 07:20 PM Since I joined I've met Ali and played with his car, and met Ivana and ogled at her car. No real meet yet.
But, I'm game. Tonight I've got nothing to do if somebody wants to brave the weather. And for whatever next meet we have, there'll be a prize for sure for the dirtiest bimmer.
Ali- go for the 535i, but look into the boards for common problems. There will probably be a sticky in their section for things to look for, on top of typical cooling system/head gasket/spark plug/suspension/brake checks.
Ali//325i 02-16-2006, 03:39 PM Checked the 535i out. If i can find a way to sell my cadillac or trade it in for cash somewhere i will end up buying the 535i. My caddys blue book was 6k last time i checked (4 months ago). So the worst they can do is give me 2k for it and i buy a 535i for 1800 bucks lol not a bad deal.
Adam, my control arms came today. Ball joints installed already, brand new, and new bushings to fit to the subframe. I am seriously excited, there is finally hope that my suspension will be finished haha. Anywaiz, When you get a chance i would appreciate some help sometime. My buddies are gone for mid winter break so i am kind of alone with access to only the tools my grandpa finally gave back to me lol, which isn't much still. Hes got sooo many tools of mine. Anywaiz, It looks like the car should be operational in a week or so. Then i will have to take a look at this exhaust leak of mine:shifty . So give me a call sometime.
I finally decided what to do with my engine. The rebuild will consist of a 2.7l stroker using super eta pistons, crankshaft, and rods. This would yeild a 8.8:1 CR which would be fun for turbo, but I am not going to turbo my cabby. So the solution is to shave the block 1 to 2mm(forgot the exact measurement) to yield a better 10:1 CR. A nice 272 camshaft (1 for a SOHC engine:devillook ) will help give it a nice power curve. In addition the block will be dipped and cleaned, I dont know what this exact process is called or how it works but on an engine this old its pretty necessary for a machine shop to do. They can do it while they are shaving the block for me. The head will stay fairly stock, unless I am a little underbudget, then new inner and outter valvesprings (catcams valve springs) will go in. I will possibly look into cleaning up the head as well, but i dont wanna spend too much money. Its looking like its going to be around $1000 bucks or so depending on the price of machining and how much i can get the camshaft for and if i decide to do the valve springs or not. Right now i have the bigger injectors, new AFM on the way, and a chip hopefully to help out with the fuel setup. And theres an LSD in norcal waiting for me for $125. Cars are wayyyyy toooo expensive for kids to own.:rolleyes
Hope everyone is enjoying this disgusting weather!
-Ali
Ubertino 02-16-2006, 06:05 PM It's only expensive because you're doing so much work to it! We'll need a pickle for the control arm, and new self locking nuts. Those are pretty important, four of them, for the ball joints and the joint that goes into the subframe. The control arm carriers will need to come off, and a press is needed to put the new bushings in. A decent shop should have a hydraulic press and the fittings for the removal. You don't need me to take the control arms off.
The fast and dirty way- unto balljoint bolt. Put pickle inbetween balljoint and hub assembly. Beat shit out of pickle until joint comes out. Repeat with subframe ball joint. Be careful when removing them that you don't knock your struts around too much if they're the new ones. If they're not, then this is a great time to switch them out. Unscrew the two bolts for the control arm bushing. Use pickle to get the bushing assembly off the control arm.
Then, get the bushing out of the assembly, relace with new bushing (make sure it's in there exactly the same angle and such as the old bushing) Then take some dish soap, lube up the control arm, put the new one in the bushing and then loosly bolt it back on car. Put the new balljoints into the appropriate bits, put on self locking nuts. Hard part: put a jack (with a bit of wood to not damage metal) under the balljoint and raise until the car is being supported. This way the joint won't rotate when you torque those bolts down. Once the two ball joints are done, tighten the bushing and you're done. Repeat for other side.
You just need some crescent wrenches for the bolts, a decent socket for the bushing, and a mallet and pickle (I like rubber... but you can use wood). Pickle is $14 to rent from Autozone, they give you your money back.
Ali//325i 02-16-2006, 09:35 PM i am going to rent the pickle saturday morning. And get some silicon. Thats what the guy at bavauto said to get to put the new bushings in. He said you dont need to have them pressed in. Its really sweet how the balljoints and the bushings are all pressed in. Just need to push the new one for the subframe in. Hopefully i can get the pickle to work out and get the old shit out and put all my new stuff on my car.
I need a really large socket for bolt that holds on the control arm on the subframe...so i ill have to find out exactly what size that bolt is then it should go smoothly.
Nice sig pic by the way haha.

LittleBlueBMW 02-17-2006, 11:49 PM Hired a tow truck. I need to get reimbursed by the auto club for 25 miles, should cover at least half of the expense. The car weathered yesterday's storm despite the hole in the windshield.

I am not on the board very offten... but you do know a race car guy ..... and most race car owners have trucks and trailers or atleast access to them :confused
Looks like a fun project....
LittleBlueBMW 02-20-2006, 12:14 AM Hey Kevin. I did not have your number else I would have called. Today we removed the mood, bumper, and windshield. We used a telephone pole to pull the front end out, very effective.
LittleBlueBMW 02-20-2006, 12:16 AM We tried to do the suspension and springs on the 323is but ran into problems. I need the special tools to pull the drive shaft in the rear and a very large lug in the front on the knuckle. Anyone?

Why are you trying to pull the driveshaft on a suspension install?
As far as the big lug on the front nuckle. The only special tool you need is a big friggin wrench.
phillym5 02-20-2006, 05:37 PM Philly - I need to stop by the shop to check it out when the weather gets better. I may need to stop by for some maintenance I don' have time for.

We really don't do "maintenance..." We do performance upgrades.... AKA. speedshop...AKA Rim store....AKA....exhaust......suspension....etc,
If you need a tune up....we aren't the ones.:nono
If you need a custom stereo system full of fiber glass..or whatever, thats us.
Ubertino 02-20-2006, 07:02 PM I stopped in the store and they were making some beautiful headers. Lots of custom fabbed in that store.

Cool. Hopefully the floors had been put in. We are still collecting inventory for the show room. I'm working on getting all the accounts. We pretty much have all the "import" accounts. Now I'm working on all the Schnitzer, Techart, Brabas...etc. Not that we'd stock it, but we could get it....type stuff.
The fabricator is no joke. He makes some serious...top notch stuff. If anyone needs some custom headers, manifolds, turbo housings, brackets, whatever.. this dude is serious. Best work I've seen. his name is Ryan. Hope you liked the shop.

HUMMMMM I dont know why you were pulling the drive shaft to do rear suspension? but then again I havent done that to my car.... did have the front end of the drive shaft out to put a new drive donut in. I am guessing you need a real large socket for what the spindle nut ? any idea what size it is ? my guess is I have one.
BTW Pm me, and I will give you my email addy.
Oh and trees and telephone polls work real good for pulling bodywork.... nothing like a big chain and the car in reverse !!!
LittleBlueBMW 02-21-2006, 05:35 PM it was even better since the car doesn't turn on
we pushed it up to the pole and gave it a big shove back.

Ubertino 02-22-2006, 09:54 PM DRC- you had it stored for the winter? Shame on you!
Ryan is a very nice guy, knows his shit. Eventually when I get to FI, I'm probably going to have words with him. I'm still debating between the power of a turbo with the ease and cost of a supercharger. I'm not looking for more then 350 or so at the wheels, both can do that quite well.
Ali//325i 02-24-2006, 08:54 PM Hey guys wheres the best place to get an alignment done? I want a reputable place not just some regular run of the mill place. Also is there anywhere near here to get the car corner balanced. I hear that helps out alot with handling. HAHA even though its for race cars it cant hurt to have it on the street:D .

BTW, A local Grand Rapids guy is going to be racing in the fiesta cup in the actual WRC. He is one of only a few americans to ever enter WRC as a driver, and will be the only american to ever race in 4 WRC events in one season. Hopefully he can do well this coming season. His name is matt johnston, for more info check out http://www.mattjohnstonrally.com/ . He's my good buddies, soon to be brother-in-law. He started out with a little eg6 hatchback civic with a stock integra ls motor. And now hopefully he can find some sponsorship and finish this season strong and hopefully bring rally into mainstream america. Just thought you guys might be interested.
DRC10 02-24-2006, 10:45 PM Had to store it.. The 18s and those tires, its like drivin a run away bobsled. Still need to find a set of stock wheels...
TireFryer 02-25-2006, 12:56 AM I am having withdrawl symptoms! Put ins back on the car for Sat/Sun and providing there is NO SNOW, the Beast will venture out of the garage to play for a few miles to get her fluids recirculated, and battery topped off:) Will be meeting another BFc member in Lansing (he also has an E34 M5 Alpine white). I don't know if Sat or Sun...again, depends on the weather. If anyone wants, come on out to Lansing! ;)
BTW, nice pic diary of the revival of the E30, blue :) keep it updated!

Ali//325i 03-03-2006, 11:17 PM Adam, I'd be down for the meet just gotta get my damn car done. Control arm bolts really need some finesing and a super long poll lol. I leaving for cali on the 30th so if we can do it before then i would definently be down for a meet. Just need to get my shit done. I need a sweet impact wrench lol. Oh and btw, that guy finally sent out my bumper....Took him long enough lol.
Anybody know of a good place that does "Hot-tanking" or know of how much it might cost to hot tank and engine block? Looking for the stroker rebuild this summer, can't seem to find a place to get me a price estimate. Hopefully everyone is doing good. I am Dieing with some crazy cold/sinus/virus/disease right now lol i can barely breathe, my eyes are watering, and i have to work. Shitty.....
Hopefully this meet up will actually go through.

DRC10 03-04-2006, 01:57 AM Ubertino - Saw a black m3 parked downtown today. Thought it might of been you.
Ubertino 03-05-2006, 08:44 PM Close... I was borrowing my friends spanking new 745Li, a pimp ride if there ever was one...
LittleBlueBMW 03-11-2006, 11:18 PM What the hell is a vacation?
I did get that wrecked 325e to start today. Looks like I am in the market for more parts, bumper (really a whole front end), windshield, radiator and mount.
DRC10 03-12-2006, 09:34 PM Deez- you and that gixxer better be enjoying this weather. I miss my r6 so bad Im tryin to find another before summer.

roadrace 03-13-2006, 01:09 PM It is almost spring..... so
I have a set of H&R sports for a 96-99M3
These were taken off the car and put back to stock before I purchase it. They are in nice shape and I think they were only on the car out in cali for about a year.
get them out of my garage. no offer within reason refused. I pulled these out of the back of the garage to take pic for a guy and then he went awol..... so before I bury them again or make them go away...... I figured I would put them on here as I dont realy want to ship, but I am all over michigan so I would consider meeting somewhere.
psychocandy 03-14-2006, 11:05 PM Does anyone in SE Michigan know of a good collision/paintless dent removal shop to have some minor work done? The latest windstorm caused me some damage (540) and I would like to take care of a few cars/issues at one time. I also don't want to be raped on the charges, so value is also a part of the equation.
Thanks
DRC10 03-15-2006, 09:43 PM Well guys its gonna be a sad day... The m3 is going up for sale soon. Due to financial and family problems. Good news, i'll probably buy another sportbike:)
Second thought. I looked in autotrader, and most those m3's have been on there for awhile now. Maybe I won't be able to sell it:)
LittleBlueBMW 03-15-2006, 11:00 PM Psychocandy, did you meet my friend Greg (from Chicago). He mentioned a guy from Brighton with a silver M3, and that should be you.

Yeah, he called me on the M3 that is for sale and I gave him a thorough description of the vehicle. I just had a new wheel bearing installed and the car literally runs like new again. Greg mentioned that he was a friend of yours and I told him that I met you a few times (at Eric's garage and house). I am going to be listing the M3 for $14.2k at a local audio retailer in Brighton (along busy Grand River Ave). If Greg is truly interested I will give him a $500 break to sell to an enthusiast.
Let me know if you would like to inspect the car for him. I will move the car quickly now that I have a replacement 328is. I am loving the Avus blue, but I miss the braking, acceleration and handling of the ///M.

I have had work done here a few times, and very good in their workmanship, very timely and stick to the schedule they give you...both times I have had work done there, they have been earlier than their scheduled date/time :buttrock
http://www.barnumandtenny.com/ ask for Martin and tell him Basam referred you :) I know this a a little over an hour from you, but might be worth a shot.
let me know if I can be of any more help...

Thanks for the suggestion I will definitely check it out. I see that you were happy with the workmanship and timeliness, but was it also a good value?
TireFryer 03-16-2006, 09:39 AM insurance paid for thw rok, so yes, GREAT value :D
no $$$ out of my pocket, so I can say one way or another on that. on that note though, I got a quote to clean up the rock chips on my hood, front bumper, and fix the lil' ding on the pass fender, repaint the entire hood, pass fender and then clearcoat for about $500-$600 if I remember correctly... guaranteed color match with the BMW OEM DiamondBlack Metallic :)
hope that helps....
Zubehor 03-20-2006, 03:19 AM Does anybody know a place I can do a couple of dyno runs? I want to establish a baseline and see my afr's. I don’t know of any places that have experience with bmw's. Also if you know the price that would be great.
spooltime 03-20-2006, 10:33 AM I use Motor City Steel (http://www.motorcitysteel.net) for my dyno work locally. They have a Mustang Dyno (md1100) that can simulate real road loading conditions and a wideband. They're in Commerce Twp, near the top end of M5. Very clean and capable shop. Call for an exact price, but most places are ~$80 for a couple pulls.
Ubertino 03-20-2006, 01:20 PM Note for all the Grand Rapids folks. Sold (the buyer is paying today, hopefully) the M3. Got a new BMW, but with fewer wheels that needs a helmet. Only one toy at a time. I'm still going to be on the board though. I'll get another bimmer in a year or so- this time I'm going to pay cash...
Ali- how's the car coming?
Ali//325i 03-20-2006, 07:30 PM adam, you suck for selling your m3 lol. Anywaiz, the car is going to be put back together tomorrow. And then saturday it goes for inspection at street performance and then finally i will be taking it later that day to get my alignment...i am so close i can taste it haha. One of these days youll have to stop by and check it out once it is running. I still need to go to philly's shop and get a price quote for the paint/body work i need done. I am gonna ask josh at street performance racing for his estimate and hopefully get a second opinion so to speak from phillys shop. We still need to have a meet on a nice day, ill throw the top down and finally enjoy the sun....haha Not until after i get back from SOCAL for spring break:buttrock .
and to the guy who was asking about dyno stuff, ill ask josh at SPR, if you are close to grand rapids I think he might be able to find some place for you, i am too lazy to check where you are from sorry bud.

Zubehor 03-20-2006, 07:48 PM I'm in Lansing.
Ali//325i 03-20-2006, 07:55 PM Well lucky for you being right in the middle. Ill talk with josh and see if he can get a price for the dyno runs and stuff..maybe ill pay to get some done too before i go and rebuild my engine and stuff just to see where i am at and see if my money will be spent wisely. PM me if you want josh's number. Those guys do great work at Street Performance racing, BTW, i think philly might have access to a dyno as well. Grand rapids is about 1hr 10min from you if you get lucky with traffic and drive the speed limit.
Let me know if you want Josh's info.

Btw, anyone know where ivana is? lol She was going to look into some exhaust stuff from josh as well but i havent heard from her on here in a while.
Zubehor 03-20-2006, 08:42 PM maybe we can have a small dyno day that way maybe the price will be a little lower. Sure i will take his number, do they also have a website i can check out? Thanks.
TireFryer 03-22-2006, 11:07 AM PhillyM5: you back from your vacation? I need to run some stuff by you asap (I have called and talked to Ryan already...hmmm?! ;) )
anyone know if he is back from his Euro escapades? ;) I need to get over to his shop soon...especially with the nice weather we've been having... at least here Lansing side, the beast is yearning to come out and play! :D
Ali//325i 03-22-2006, 05:31 PM zubehor, I am working on their website right now lol. Hopefully by the end of the week it will be done. heres a screen shot if you like lol http://www.r3vlimited.com/gallery/files/1/0/8/6/6/SPRfinalsitehopefully_293914.jpg
Sorry the info isnt in yet. I am working on the programming back end first. A dyno day would be sweet. I will talk to josh and see what he thinks about finding a place to do it at.
The weather is so depressing though. Its all sunny and beautiful, then you walk out side and your nipples get so hard you could cut diamonds with them lol. Good thing i will be in SOCAL in a week! : )

Ubertino 03-22-2006, 07:04 PM I know of a place for sure in Grand Rapids that has a dyno, don't know what kind. I think the runs go from $200-500, depending on how many passes you want to make and other such stuff. From what I've heard that's about standard as far as pricing is concerned. I'm not going to participate though- my BMW is only 2 wheels....

I think thats way too much for just a baseline dyno. The places i called charge around $60-80 for 3 passes. I was just looking to see if there are any shops with bmw experience.
Ali//325i the webpage looks good so far. I'm not in a rush so whenever we can get more people to set-up a dyno day let me know.

What you need??
TireFryer 03-23-2006, 12:57 PM Josh...welcome back :)
I called and talked to Ryan yesterday and want to sit down and discuss a project with you. I am sure, if you are at the shop, he can fill you in on most of it :) Trying to see when I can make it out to your shop, check it out and see what we might be able to do ;)
entails, an E34 M5, turbo, EuroTuner, mass exposure... and quite possibly, an E46 M3 turbo... hmmmm....
