werd! This place sucks. I got one of the most private lots in town, still i hear thumping bass at 3 am, car alarms, fights and shit, and check this, the neighbors in the apt complex next door throw their garbage over the fence into my yard!!! WTF!? Like your typical kitchen garbage, beer bottles and cans, KFC (I hate fucking KFC) :confused . At least I've never had anyone fuck with me, knock on wood.

Today I was looking for something in Clarkston. Saw a nice place, thinking of buying a house :buttrock

I work in Auburn Hills, but lunch is however long i want as long as i don't miss meetings. Where's a good place for lunch? Maybe we can get a small group together. The Moose Preserve is overrated, but good enough for lunch anyday. Whos up? Monday? Tuesday?

I'm kinda embarrased to drive my car though, no wash, still have the lumpy track tires on, full of rubber dust from drifting and burnouts.

you guys are all close to me, i work in southfield but the company i work for is actually based in auburn hills and i live in rochester right next to auburn hills :)

Yeah we could all do lunch sometime, since we're all in the area. Gotta be somewhere after work tomorrow (Friday), but anytime next week is cool with me.

Where in Southfield does everyone work? I work in the office building directly behind the Star Southfield.

Yeah, definitely get a house, you won't regret giving up the apartment living and your M3 will thank you for the garage. I know a great mortgage guy if you need one.

Some decent places to meet around S'field for lunch:

Merriwethers (seafood - telegraph and 10 mile)
Siam Spicy (thai - Northwestern hwy just East of Orchard lk)
Northwestern Cafe (used to be Kabobgy, american food - N'western and Beck)
Baja Fresh (mexican - tel 12 mall area)

I will probably take a 1/2 day tomorrow, but let me know if anyone is interested in meeting up next week.

and in other news...

Xceedspeed.com is hosting a drift day on Saturday 6-4-2005, from noon till 6 pm, at Toledo (closer than the outbrakemotorsports.com drift day 3 at Kil Kare, www.outbrakemotorsports.com btw, great events!)

This is a great place to learn how to really handle the bimmers, you don't need to know how, just want to learn. I can testify it has helped me a great deal on keeping ther M on the track when I do Waterford, Gingerman, etc. (I got black flagged at gingerman for hanging it out too much, being too cocky, lol)

Hey, I just found this thread, and am looking for some M3 owners in the Greater Grand Rapids area. I'm new to the car (got mine in Feb) and would like to talk to and see what some others have done, and see how their cars run- especially stock, but moded too. If anybody would like to meet, beers are on me.

Sorry to take so long to re-post. I have a cosmos black on black, no wings with Racing Hart C2 18's constantly covered in brake dust. I'm a photojournalist, so I'm on the road alot alot. Good to see in this community a little niche from our neck of the woods!

Since I've been here I haven't seen your grey beast, but I saw a guy in a nice green one, and there's been a black one that I've witnessed around GRCC quite a few times.

Anybody open to getting together sometime? I new to the M3, and since mine is a little old, and the previous owner beat the shit out of it, I'm curious to see how everybody else's sound and look, if that makes any sense.

Yep- clears all the way around, with blue bulbs inside. I'm around Kentwood sometimes, and just about everywhere else- I basicly work out of my car- a good reason to have an M3.

Mmmm.... I would love to show to the thai food, but I've got work pretty much everyday (I don't really get days off) and if I visited east side of the state without visiting my mom, well, bad things would happen to me. Very bad.

However.

If some of the guys in Grand Rapids wanna get together becauset they don't have the time/energy/gumption/family relationships to visit detroit, on Saturday's I can be found at Rocky's Bar and Grill on Ottawa Ave. just north of town. Head south on Monroe from Leonard, follow it to the left. It's a nice out of the way bar. If anybody wants to meet me at anypoint, just pm me or something.

Are there some nice spots in state for drifting, or more to the point, to learn drifting?

I installed my understeer ssk last night. My first impressions was damn, this thing is notchy. But after driving around for a couple hours it started to grow on me. First is much shorter. Second is slightly shorter, Third is directly next to first and very short, fourth is about the same and fith seems farther off to the side for some reason. Overall I think it was a good investment.

Quick Call guys, got an offer on my 16 inch wheels finally, but now I am thinking, do I want a set of track/auto-X wheels? Realistically, I would be at the auto-X 5 times a year and the track, once or twice from driver's ed.
I would need to get some tools to swap on and off and all. Opinions?

Also meets anyone?

Jacob,
Nice meeting you yesterday and thanks for the tires!

Kristin,
I would keep the 16's if I were you and keep them as dedicated DE wheels. Consider the cost of replacing a set of 16's vs 18's. Also, depending on your fitment, you might have problems with the rear tires when driving hard on a lowered suspension.

Can't make it this weekend... arrgg! Graduation party and my Grandparents 50th anniversary.

Mike A. is showing up with his turbo M3 as well. This is going to be one crazy drive. I'm going to finish up the in-car video system tomorrow so I can get all this footage on tape. Too bad I don't have a boost controller right now. I'll only be able to run 6psi (400hp). :(

Yes Kristin, I still have the 325is. I'm putting an M3 trans in it when I get back from the Saturday drive.

Wheel weights are about 22 or 23lbs each for the 7.5x17 M3 wheels. If you aren't going to get snow tires, don't bother with keeping the 16's. Just sell em off when you can.

Ubertino
06-04-2005, 04:35 PM
Well, there are a couple of things- Sharpe, which suck, even when you talk to Blaine who is the only really decent tech.

There is the community auto repair in East Fulton, but they suck. Good mechanics, terrible customer service.

The best place for fixing any kind of sports car is Euro Autowerks http://www.euroautowerks.com/ (http://www.euroautowerks.com) with Tim (dad) and T.J. (son). Tim races vintage porche's, and does a lot of good work. But they're in Belding, which is about 25 minutes from downtown G.R.

Or, I can come over and try and help you figure out what it is. I do all my own M3 work, since I'm one of those people with a sickness for fast cars but with out the fast cash.

If the car doesn't start then it's fire or fuel. Make sure that the plugs are lighting (take one out and watch it when you crank the car) if that works then you have spark. Then it a matter of making sure your fuel delivery system is working. That's where it gets a bit more complicated.

Lemme know-

Ubertino
06-06-2005, 04:10 PM
In the name of all things good and holy, take her to EuroAutowerks rather then the $tealership. They know cars like nobody else (did a friend of mine's Dinan supercharger install) and won't rip you off.

DRC10
06-06-2005, 05:04 PM
If I do end up taking the car in its going to EuroAutoWerks. I have heard good things and the car itself has a service history there. My other option is to bring it down to school, my brothers in the tech program and can do all work labor free. I just have to figure out the problem. I just took a spark plug out, and im not getting a spark.

Ubertino
06-06-2005, 08:37 PM
If you're not getting a spark then the problem is pretty simple- plugs, wires, coilover, alternator, battery. Are you getting any error codes? Since you've got the '95 you can check the codes from the check engine light, all the different translations are posted online or in a bently's manual.

AND if the car was serviced at Euro, then they've already got a history with it, know the previous owner (or you) and will do what they do best.

I would hesitate to give the car to your brother's auto tech class for two reasons- 1. BMW's are quirky, and M cars even more so. Even though it is still a car, there are some differences in design and engineering that make it a bit different to work on. Any mechanic with experience can do this, but with a class you're looking at a teacher who knows gobs, and students who think that know almost as much. It's the students I worry about. 2. They will test drive it, and grcc doesn't carry the same kind of insurance that a proper garage will. IF something fails, or an accident happens, or something simply goes wrong then it's not such a simple matter to get fixed. But these are just my opinions, to each his own.

Again, if you need any help or anything, just drop me a line-

Ubertino
06-07-2005, 12:42 AM
I don't know of any links for it- but a bently's manual or a haynes would have the codes for sure. I just did a quick google and didn't find anything, but that doesn't mean that they're not here.

Lemme know if you need the codes and I'll take a couple pics of the pages and email them to you.

I've gotta crash, but tomorrow I'll post how to check for the codes, although I'm sure that there already a post about it somewhere in the forum

Strange... I was there just a few days ago to chat with Tim and give him some cash that I owed... they're there, I haven't got a clue why you couldn't ring them.

I'm also working on getting the information to post a thread with all the different error codes- it's taking a while because I have to type them all in- Bentley's is a copywrited work so I can't just copy it and post it. By the by, if you haven't purchased a bentley's, then you should, even if you're not really into doing car work yourself- it's got a zillion times more information then the owners manual.

Oh, and every M3 owner should see this page-

No light? The check engine light? There's no way that the car doesn't have a check engine light. The only thing that could be with that is the bulb is burnt out, but I've never heard of that happening to anybody.

Is your engine the 3.0 or the 3.2 liter? If it's the 3.0 then it's obd 1 and the check light will work. If it's the 3.2 then it should be OBD 2, and you need the special tool that plugs into the diagnostic port to read the codes

When you turn the car on for the first time is there a check engine light lit up on the cluster? If not I would put money on that the guy before you pulled the bulb. Those bulbs do not burn out, only get pulled out. Putting one back in will help you determine the codes. If you want I can stop by and show you how to take the cluster out.

Yah those clusters are a cake walk when you've done them a few times. I have had mine apart multiple times as well as many others...

I have done everything on my car with the help of a very skilled mechanic. It was nice cause he made me do alot of it myself so I could learn but he was right there to supervise in case I got in over my head. We changed the motor, made it a manual from an automatic, swapped out the entire interior from dove to sport black ///M interior, supercharged it, you name it I pretty much have done it. Rear ends, drivelines, subframes, lights ect. ect.

Sounds like fun Ivana, theres gotta be some booze involved for me to work on a car again ;)

Yeah, I have a project in the basement which needs to be finished first - spraying the ceilings and it gets real messy so I want this to be done first. I will let you know when I am planning the install.

Glad to see there are others in K'zoo on the board. What color is your car. You can't miss my Imolia Red M Roadster. I was suprised last week when I was sitting at a light on Westnedge and another Imolia Red M Roadster passed by. He looked as amazed as I did! That's only the 3rd M roadster I've seen since I bought the car last May.

after they washed the car, all the silver started flaking off, along with the logo starting to fade rapidly. The washer claimed all he did was wash it with water, but he may have sprayed some sort of tire shine on it. They use a power washer, but so do I and I couldn't get the same effect, so they must have put something on it.

They have yet to call me back about replacing the caps.

I did find a sweet avus on black M3 for sale in dayton. 72 K miles, Hamann HM2's, BB exhaust, X brace. 15,500.00

I go to sharpe for an oil change, and only because they have the nice pastries and coffee, and give me car a nice wash. I'll pay the extra for the comfy waiting room.

All parts come from Pelican or somebody else online- if they don't have it, they'll order it. And with an E36 M3, it's not like the $tealership has the parts in stock anyways.

About the washing- you've gotta be carefull with the washes like southland and others- they use a bug removal spray that's nasty on wax (ok for clearcoat though) and every place that washes rims uses a special cleaner to get brake dust and road grim off rims. Anything that is laminated will eventually be destroyed, but it usually takes a few years.

I might do that if I know when it is:) I may not have a BMW though, my x just called and asked me to leave it to him.... um NO. He threatened to completely destroy it before and I honestly wouldn't put it past him. So, now I have to go put it in protective custody, hidden in someone's garage somewhere when he gets back so he doesn't do something to it.

Ubertino

Summer- If he threated you or your property, then you can get a restraining order on him, which I would do.

Don't put your car in the garage. It's a waste of a good car, that you obviously love to drive. If he destroy's it, then you insurance will pay for the repairs, and the cops will arrest him and make his life miserable. If you change your life and habits because of his threats, then he wins. And that's not fair.

There are a few G.R. police helplines that I would call. I've gone through similar things before, and everything turned out fine (after the restraining order). When you get official on somebody, they generally get the idea, and aren't willing to face the consequences of breaking an order. If they do, then they would have done something drastic anyways. This way you at least have the law on your side.

SummerLuvn
06-21-2005, 12:16 PM
Well that's originally what I said to him about the insurance....then I thought about it.... insurance is going to pay me blue book. What's the blue book on an 88? Like $1900 maybe? I'd be TOTALLY screwed and ROYALLY pissed. I could probably get more than that, I'd just have to prove to the insurance company what an 88 would actually sell for. I don't know, we'll see. I don't want to jump the gun and go slapping a restraining order on him for no reason. During our entire relationship he's never finished anything he ever started, so I probably don't have any reason to suspect he'd start now :confused

I'm just so tired of him coming up with excuses to call me everyday to bitch & fight over nothing. He's the one who was out meeting all these girls in clubs and talking to them while he was on the road, but I'm the bitch because I won't give him MY BMW :nuts

Who's name is on the title? If its his, you may have some issues holding onto it. At the very least, you will have a court battle to prove he bought it as a gift and that you have maintained it ever since.

I bought a car for a girlfriend to use once. After we split up, she thought I would let her use my car and my insurance. Fat chance of that. She brought my bmw back with broken out grilles and claimed a rock hit it on the highway. I later found the grilles in the road a mile away from where I was living. That was the end of letting her even borrow a vehicle for anything. ...sorry for the side story. I'm sure you are a wonderful driver. :D

SummerLuvn, that sucks, hope you make it throught this all ok. I broke up with my boyfriend 7 months ago and still not everything is over yet. I retard signed a one year appt lease for him, and everytime he does not pay it, guess on who it falls back on, ...me. He was allways a looser, I allmost paid everything for him, and when we broke up I told him I did not want anything back, he could keep everything. When I was in FL i bought myself a timeshare condo, and he asked me to put his name on there as well so that his gredit history would grow, since it was very poor. After we broke up and after I told him to keep averything, he still had the guts to ask me to buy him out or otherwise he would not take his name of the condo. OMG I was sooo mad, we fought and in the end he signed it of to me. I did not had all the hassle of moving since I never lived with him, but still so many problems occur after a relationship comes to its end, and it should not be that complicated. I mean I told him he can have everything, and allmost all the furniture he had in his appt I helped him get it, including his car,... and then he still findes something to bitch about, instead of just saying "thank you for everything and good luck" Some people are just plain unthankful.

If he started giving you problems, then call me. I have very good friend who are very talented lawyers.

For your car and the insurance, they will only total it if the car is unrepairable, or the repairs cost more the 75% of the value of the car. Now here is the tricky part- if he defaces or vandalizes your ride he would have to do some pretty major stuff to get that kind of damage in. And if he's doing those kinds of things, then you can go after him personally, with said lawyers. Even if he's poor, his pay can be docked until kingdom come or he pays off the damage. And this goes hand in hand with the restraining order.

When you meet him to get the papers signed for the lease, be civil, and don't threaten him with anything unless he proves unwilling to co-operate. Then don't threaten, just tell him what happens next. You should be able to find a reasonably happy ending.

And your 88 convert is worth more then 1900 book. Just to let you know. :)

I'm going to sell it for around $10k....probably in the $9k range I'm sure its worth that much. My buddy just sold his beater E30 track car for like $4k.

Mines got a real cage, seam welded body, coilovers on all 4 corners, dual brake master cylinders, 3.0 engine with cams and dyno tuned software, M3 trans, UUC shifter, plexiglass windows, two intercoms. One with headsets and one for helmets....etc. I've even got the PIAA rally lights for the front. Oh yeah...OMP steering wheel, OMP seats and Seabelt 5 point harnesses too. I'm sure I have tons of spares including another set of coilovers for it.

I would love to have a meet, and I could host a bbq as well for us, but my brother and me are going to europe this sunday so we wont be here for July 4th. We are comming back on July 28th, so what do you guys think about a bbq somewhere in the beginning of August?

I would be down for sure...I could roll over there with Eric (EMC), since he heads that way every weekend :alright :devillook :redspot

My grandparents in in GR...maybe I'll be a good little grandson and swing by to say hello, that'll make their summer LOL!

August 6th works for me. My girlfriend is working that Saturday so I'm free for the day in GR. I can't wait to see her roll her eyes when I say that I'm meeting up with bmw people in GR that day. No smoky burnouts in front of her house because of that gesture. The culdesac she lives on is gravel. :(
I have to wait until the rally car is running again before doing anything like that.

German Auto is garbage...... Wanted to replace my tranny one time when all that was wrong was my kickdown switch was shorting out because I drove the car in the winter one year and the build up of water on the floor board caused it to malfunction. So it was either $2000+ for them to replace the tranny and still have the same problem or a $30 kickdown switch.....hmmm....

My mistake, I ment that I wanted to take my car to http://www.euroautowerks.com/ because alot of you guys said there reputable. Not motorwerksgroup, there 2 hours away, imagin the towing fee
EuroAutoWerks is the place im having trouble getting ahold of, there phone, and email dont seem to be working.
Deez, Ill take your advice and not bring it to German Auto, I dont have the patience to deal with those kind of people.
Also thanks for stoppin by that one day it was a nice surprise to meet a BF memeber.

My ex is Bosnian. We were supposed to go to Austria to visit his dad for our honeymoon next summer. Then we were going to Zagreb to visit his grandma (his mom is Croatian). I was sooo excited to go. Croatia is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

That's bs. They can order individual pieces.
Call up someone like circlebmw.com or pacificbmw.com and order it in that case.

Erhard BMW down here will order them for you. If you still have issues with it, I'll order it down here and drop it off in GR this weekend...but only as a last resort.

Only if I get a ride in the car.

Anyone up for a little maintenance? I need some help doing a brake fluid flush and coolant flush. I'll be damned if I pay 250 at the dealer for that. Still looking for some help on the pullies and shift lever.

"a bit surprised" is quite an understatement! Eric's car is a $%! monster! I thought I had a good guess about what it would feel like, but I was WAAAAAAY off! Man, I was giggling uncontrollably the entire time. :) I mean, hay-soos kristo that sucker is quick! It made for quite a boring ride back home... just couldn't get the same feeling out of the 1.8T. :(

But I'd like to thank you for the ride. I now know who my idol is... at least car-wise :D

I think I could make it out there on Tuesday...
