View Full Version : Looking for a Bimmer
rs4pro3 10-26-2006, 07:40 PM Well about a week or so ago, my dad wrecked his 95 525i. No one was injured, but he got the call today saying they are going to total out the car (around $5400 worth of damage). He's looking into buying the car back from insurance as the car had very low miles on it. But he's now looking for another bimmer, he'd probally consider anything under $6000 3 series, 5 series, maybe even a 7. Preferably something needing only minor repairs if any. Relatively low miles, and a nice dependable daily driver. If anybody knows of any cars that fit this bill let me know, he's looking at a 540i on ebay right now that is local, so who knows how that will go. Oh he'd also prefer a manual tranny if possible. Thanks guys :buttrock
325i Vert 10-26-2006, 08:02 PM Ive got a 92 525 for sale Ely. It needs work but overall its in pretty good shape. Im going to detail it this weekend or the next to see how the paint condition is. Its an autotradigic though...

rs4pro3 10-26-2006, 11:13 PM well if my dad purchased his car back from insurance we could convert it to 5-speed. How much work are we talking?
325i Vert 10-27-2006, 07:42 AM Im not quite sure yet. The people I bought it from said it needed a new radiator and hoses. It does leak some oil, not sure yet. I honestly have not even had the time to look at everything in depth yet this week. Hopefully this weekend I can spend some time looking at eveything.

theseeker411 10-27-2006, 11:41 AM Depends on how much you're gonna be asking for it once it's cleaned up, and if Ely's dad doesn't get it first.
325i Vert 10-27-2006, 12:01 PM Once everything is done, Ill probally be looking in the $1000 to $2500 range. I really cant say exactly until some small things get worked out. Its really in pretty good shape. I have records dating back all the way to 1994 so the car has been cared for. Looks like its a 2 owner car.

Holy MOLDY! You know how sick you can get off of just driving that car around with the spores under the carpet and in the dash?
You're gonna have to gut that car. I happen to love gutting cars and pressure washing the interiors. I used to do it every weekend to my 525 which was coincidentally the same year. Why don't you give me a yell when you are gonna gut and de-spore it and I'll gladly help. I'll also make a decision on buying it also as we go along. On nasty days like today, I am sitting here gritting my teeth knowing I have to drive the Mercedes later.
what color is that thing?
325i Vert 10-27-2006, 02:21 PM Its black with dove interior. I quickly wiped off a couple spots with QD and the paint still has quite a bit of gloss to it. Well see once its clean...

I've done that to every car I've purchased, just makes them so much nicer, strip them down to bare metal, and clean everything.
325i Vert 10-27-2006, 03:22 PM The thing is, you cant see the condition of the car because its so damn filthy. The dirt and pollen cover everything up...

rs4pro3 10-30-2006, 07:13 PM Well insurance finally got back with my dad today, they offered a very nice settlement, We are going to buy the car back, get a check for $3800, and the car won't be issued a salvage title(not required if vehicle is over 10 years of age in TN). So this weekend we'll pull all the bent parts off and see how bad the radiator support etc is mangled. And we may have a body shop weld in a new core support. Fix all the bent panels our selves, then have the car repainted. Or we'll part it out if the damage is too extensive.
rs4pro3 11-03-2006, 11:53 PM Got my dad's car all tore apart tonigh, All the sheet metal from the core support up needs fixed, the passenger fender came out unharmed, the driver's fender just has the slightest wrinkle. Probally the hardest part of the job is the very foward section of the frame rail where the bumper shock mounts is all crinkled. I'm thinking it will probally have to be cut out and a new one welded in. So the next step is to tow the car in to a body shop and see what they say about fixing that section of the frame rail.
Here are some pics of the damage
