There is a new Clyde's in Rockville that Pete (Teuton) and I go to which is really nice (not gross like the one in Georgetown or tiny like the one in Columbia). 2 bars inside. Maybe we all meet up for dinner and a Happy Holiday drink and toast the new forum and new friends! They don't card at the door, so everyone can come. A really nice atmosphere.

Sounds like a good idea, when would be a good time for everyone?

I can't do between Dec.21-28 b/c I'll be on a cruise, so anytime after that would be cool.

BTW-The Clyde's in GT is NOT gross, I go there like once a month, it's awesome!

I was a regular at J Paul's when we lived in Georgetown. We used to go to the Clyde's on Wisconsin Ave also. Is that the one you're talking about? I'm up for it!

Jed

next week 21st thru the 28th is bad for me, as I am going on a cruise as well.

Preppy-where are you going? I am going on Royal Carribean to the Bahamas and Key West.

Phil-the Clyde's I am talking about is off of Wooten Parkway near 355 close to 270.

Let's throw some dates out there. Maybe the weekend of New Year's? like a Friday night bimmerforums Happy Hour on 1/3/03? Or on Saturday night 1/4/03?

Preppy

Hey Jed, I'm going Royal Caribbean....leaving out of Tampa Bay, going western caribbean...ship is Nordic Empress...are we on the same ship?!

Friday night happy hour would be cool. My dad could bring his X5 too :D

Actually, we're leaving from Miami, our ship is the Majesty of The Seas. I am looking forward to getting out of this crappy weather!!!

2 votes for a Friday night bimmerforums happy hour!

Yeah, the weather has been rather nasty this month. Although today is nice...(it'll be short lived...watch)

Ohhhh, we were going to go on that one!!! But my mom didn't like where the stops were :(

Damnit, it would have been cool to be on the same ship.

Jed

I also like that Friday, the 3rd. I am there assuming that I don't have to work.

BTW - I tried to insert a poll, but it doesn't look like I can after the thread has been started, but we can start a new thread!

Jed
12-18-2002, 04:31 PM
Ok, with the holidays coming up, I just wanted to see what would be the best day for a kick off meet for the new regional forum. As mentioned from the previous thread, there is a Clyde's in Rockville which is a pretty nice place to meet up for drinks and dinner. It's a bar/restaurant, so everyone can get in.

Maybe someone can bring a camera for pics?

Put in your vote for what day works for you.

Either date works for me

Jed

Preppy
12-18-2002, 04:35 PM
Hey Jed, I merged the two threads, so now we have the poll at the top :)

I voted Friday because I am leaving Saturday morning to drive up to NYC with my family and some friends.

Jed
12-18-2002, 04:35 PM
Damn! You're quick on the keyboard!:D I was about to post a request to close or merge the other thread!

Haha, yeah, what can I say, I love this part of the board! Mid-Atlantic Region RULES! :buttrock

Jed
12-18-2002, 04:58 PM
Yeah, I used be to glued to the MD/DC/VA forum on DTM all the time-Han would post all the local autocrosses on there. I think this was a great idea so that we can see what's going on locally.

Saturday is a no go for me, I'll be in NYC....:(

Jed
12-31-2002, 10:19 AM
Well, looks like the poll is split down the middle and people have voiced a concern over rush hour traffic on Friday night (which is a good point for some).

Let's all plan to meet up on Saturday at Clyde's in Rockville at 7:00PM for some dinner and drinks.

Let's take a headcount for this event.

OT-Preppy-how was your cruise? Ours was awesome-we didn't get sick at all (with all the stomach viruses going around on the ships out of Miami-the one ship docked in front of us had an outbreak of it). Hate being back in this crap ass weather.

Preppy
12-31-2002, 02:44 PM
Hey Jed, I'll be able to make it afterall! :D

As for my cruise, it rocked! I met a sweet girl from MD (Westminster area) and her folks and mine are great friends now (I know what are the odds)......yeah, I heard about the ships leaving Miami, I got worried that your ship might have been one of them. Glad to hear that your ship wasnt one of them!

Look forward to seeing some people on Saturday!

Jed
12-31-2002, 04:04 PM
Pete/Teuton:

Can you post directions to get there? I usually rely on you or Eric to get me there.

Preppy-
Good stuff! It's funny how much easier it can be to meet someone from MD when you are somewhere else. "You're from MD???? I'M from MD!!!" Doesn't work too well within state.:D

Preppy
12-31-2002, 05:11 PM
Yeah someone post directions or a link to the directions please. If nobody does it by tonight, I'll do it ;)

Jed, yeah, considering I've only been living here for about a year, it is a little odd that I have met and talked to more MD people while in another state :dunno That'll change this weekend though :D

Edit: yeah, I need to learn how to spell to not leave letters out

Jed
12-31-2002, 05:20 PM
Wait. How will we recognize each other? LOL!

I know Phillip, Pete and Austin. But that's about it.

Anyway, I'm the short Filipino guy. Wait...that really doesn't help. I'm the other short Filipino guy (sorry Phil!);)

There is a lobby at the entrance in front of the main bar. Maybe meet up there at around 7ish.

Preppy
12-31-2002, 05:23 PM
You'll hear my car when we roll up? I know what Austin and Phil look like :az:

And I'll look for a guy that looks like Michael Douglas too ;)

OK.

Evidently the road that Clyde's is on is so new that mapquest won't find it.

From VA or DC area:

Go to 270 north and exit on Montrose road.
On the Montrose exit bear (SP Brain fart) to the left lane in towards Tower Oaks BLVD.
Make a right at your next light (Wootton Parkway).
Make your next right, its the on the right. Parking on the street and if your lucky in the lot.

From Northern Rockville and Farther north:

Go south on 270.
Take the second Montrose Rd exit towards Rockville.
Get into the left lane after the clover leaf and turn left on to Tower Oaks Blvd.
At the second light make a right (Wootton Parkway).
Make your next right, its the on the right. Parking on the street and if your lucky in the lot.

I apologize in advance for any inaccuracy to these directions. Please harbor no ill will towards me.

Address:
Clyde's
2 Preserve Pkwy

Geez... you want everything dontcha?:D

Take 95S to 100W. Follow it all the way towards Rt29 (but don't get off there). It should be the last exit before you hit Rt29. Follow the exit up to the top of the hill and take a left and then a right at the next intersection. Follow that until you hit an intersection (about 1 or 2 lights)-you'll see a shopping plaza on the left where there is a Pizzaria Uno's and a Carraba's. Go into the plaza and you'll see a Kmart on your left, an Old Navy to your left. The Barnes and Noble is further down near the Kohl's. I'll PM you my cell number.

Let's meet up at 6PM. Give me a call if you get lost. By the way, I'll most likely be taking my Explorer-it's a dark red 2 door. No dubs on it.:(

It's all good. The story behind the joke was that most of the people who showed up normally hang out together. The ONLY new faces we saw were Phil's and his wife. ;)

Clydes doesn't setup the tables or start serving dinner until 10:00pm.
Then we went to Dave and Buster's and they had a long wait too so we all went to Hooter's. Phil's wife provided entertainment for us. Can't complain about that. :D

We all just shot the breeze. We all had a good time.

Also, our waitress had a near PERFECT ass. :D

Yeah, I think we got there a little too late for dinner at a decent hour. I should've called for reservations ahead of time, but it's hard to do without a definite number.

I had a great time-we had a decent showing-Pete, Andy, Sunir, Eric, Phillip and Megan, and Matt. Great laughs ("Sunir, you live with Dado???" "No, dude! What are you talking about?") and great viewings
("Ok, rate that ass!"
Megan: "Eric, why did you give her a 3????"
Pete: "Oh, he's the Russian judge").

Let's try to setup another one. Maybe at Dave and Buster's? Last night we were thinking about doing the first ever Bimmerforums kumite.

yup, you have to be 21 and over at all times. But anytime before 11pm, you can get in with a legal guardian who is over 25. If you guys want to go there... some of us are oging to have to be chaperones! hahah...

however, there is no dress code!

Yep-last time we did a meet at Dave and Buster's we just had enough people that were over 25. Each "chaperone" is allowed 3 guests.

Andy-c'mon, I say we do the Kumite. Pete can teach you some moves-just remember to tap out when it hurts. Screaming like a girl doesn't count. We can even talk like we're dubbed over like in those Kung Fu movies. "So...you want to see the boss, eh? Then you'll have to fight me!!!!" or "So, you think your snake style gung fu is better than my tiger style gung fu, eh? Hyaaaaahhh!!!"

I made the trek following the posted directions and only had a problem with turning into the GEICO parking lot. One light, two lights, what's the difference. Anyway when I got there (at 8:00) there were no parking spaces and alot of cars parked on the street. I didn't think it was worth getting my M3 dinged so I decided to pass it all up. Glad everyone had a good time but let's try to meet someplace a little less crowded next time.

Boomerbimmer-

Sorry to hear that you made it out and missed us. Yeah, it was a bit crowded that night. We'll have to think of a better place. A lot of places seemed to be crowded because of the Packs/Falcons game that night. We probably just missed you. We were thinking maybe Dave and Buster's at White Flint mall-since there will be more parking in the garage and upper deck. Plus I figure it hard to know who's who since some of us haven't met. Sorry again.
