I was talkin to a guy from roadfly that i sold some parts too and he was telling me about a custom short throw he made. he siad that he cut and welded in a 5/8inch spacer under the pivot ball on the shifter. i am very intrigued by this because i cant justify spend $100 to $200 on a short shifter, and this is basically all it is. I will have 2 shifters, so if it doesnt work out...no big deal, but does anyone see an issue with this as long as the piece is welded back on in the same plane as it was before it was cut? Im gonna definitely look into it if anyone is interested in a budget short shift.

The bigcoupegroupe site has a good old-style shifter plate SSK guide. Also, if you switch to the newer style, you can use an OEM MZ3 coupe shifter, which is about as short as the UUC, based on what others have said. (was about 50$ from the stealer)

Unfortunately, I have actually driven a UUC-equipped vehicle, and I must say, it was the best shifter I have ever driven. When funds become available, I will be getting one for the CS.

Im not too worried about play in the shifter as long as its not excessive (new bushings are sufficient), but if you want to have a real budget shifter, get on ebay and buy one for an e46 it is the exact same lever but is one piece. I bought a brand new one for 24.00. I dont see the cost effectiveness of purchasing a kit for ten times that amount for a slight reduction in play. Reducing throw is the main attraction and that can be had for cheap.
