View Full Version : Suggestion: Track Days
PJ325i 10-24-2006, 10:58 AM This was brought up once before but really didn't go anywhere . . .so let's try it again :)
How may would be interested in doing a track day at CMP or Roebling Road?
Turn 1 @ CMP:
Drivers Ed (DE)
Entry fee is $250 for single day/ $425 for both days of two day events.
Early bird entry fee is $210 for single day/$385 for both days of two day events (entry FEE must be received at least 2 weeks prior to the event)
This fee includes an instructor.
No guarantee of entry later than 2 weeks prior to the event because of instructor availability
Seat Time (JonK) @ Roebling Road:
Drivers Education Group: (includes instructor fees)
Pre-Entry: $225
Both listed contact information for group pricing.
Of course for both, forms and tech needs to be completed.
I know I'm going to do about two or three next year . . . . Anyone else?
DessicatorGC 10-24-2006, 11:47 AM I've heard nothign be great things about Seat Time (havent doneit myself though)
but might i STRONGLY reomend NASA to you
for $300-375 you get 2 days of class and track time at some of the best tracks in the SE (and the rest of the country)
theres normally 10-20 clemson folks out there working and driving, its really a blast :)
good luck
Graham325 10-24-2006, 12:37 PM there is always something going on at cmp, and its close to me so Ill vot for it, even though I wont be participating in anything until next year

PirateJake 10-24-2006, 06:38 PM this sounds like a lot of fun...
Turn1 all the way. Done quite a few trackdays with them and they always are excellent. I haven't done Roebling yet but it looks very nascar ish. Meaning not many tight turns and very quick. CMP will KILL some brakes but is quite fun. Turn1 puts on a DE there every month so that helps too.
I'll be heading out there in December hopefully. Trying to take dad out there too. You should just come out there with us. :D Bring Dustin and Mike along too! I wanna do Roebling too. Let me if you guys or anybody for that matter want to meet there for a trackday sometime.

PirateJake 10-25-2006, 12:24 PM i'm really getting interested in this...
i'm thinking this wouldn't hurt on a resume for a mechanical engineer in the field that i'm thinking

Mechanical engineering w/ automotive concentration? Thats sounds all too familiar.

why do you say that?
slowcheetah 10-25-2006, 03:01 PM <---------------------- b/c thats what i'm doing
PirateJake 10-25-2006, 05:03 PM awesome... you liking it, how far into it are you?
slowcheetah 10-25-2006, 05:27 PM I'm a junior....so i'm just breaking the surface of the fun stuff
PirateJake 10-25-2006, 06:01 PM damn, i've got a ways to go... it's my first semester :(
BimmerBoyZ3 10-26-2006, 10:41 AM damn, i've got a ways to go... it's my first semester :(
MMmmm calculus
slowcheetah 10-26-2006, 11:24 AM I thought Calc 1 and 3 were cake. 2 on the other hand....ugh...to hell with sequences and series
PJ325i 10-26-2006, 01:13 PM MMmmm calculus
It goes good with cold soda and cookies. . .
Ok . . . back to TRACK DAY thread at hand . . .
I might be going to CMP on the Nov 6th if they let me. It's a bunch of club racers doing a test and tune track day . . . One of them "convinced" me I should register :devillook
Edit:
I'll be at CMP Nov 6th :buttrock
slowcheetah 10-26-2006, 04:49 PM I'm interested in either-or for whats it worth. I've been itching to get this car out on the track and see what it's really made of.
E30 Stu 10-27-2006, 10:10 AM +1 for the CMP day November 6th. We need more people to register for this!
It's going to be between $150 and $200 for 6 HOURS of tracktime!
Register people! :D
slowcheetah 10-27-2006, 10:47 AM Would this be a good even for a first timer? I really just don't want to go out there with a ton of experienced people and make an ass of myself.
PirateJake 10-27-2006, 12:20 PM yeah... i'm with slowcheetah... is a kid with almost no experience in a 3 series (read: me) going to be a jackass for spending 200 bucks on track time?

At the Nov 6th event....yes. Its for pretty experienced drivers as far as I know.
PirateJake 10-27-2006, 03:11 PM okay, i was thinking i'd rather get more autox practice before anything like that
E30 Stu 10-27-2006, 04:55 PM They are requiring previous track experience for this trackday, and preferably CMP experience.
There is a DE at VIR in November that is relatively cheap I believe. Check the Track forum
PirateJake 10-30-2006, 02:24 PM what's the best way to get started into something like this and get beginner track time?
i'd love to attend a good driving school sometime

HPDEs are the best way to start into tracking. AutoX is something to do as well. AutoX = cheapest while HPDE = more knowledge for high speed driving.
I plan on doing some HPDE's if I can in the vert.
PJ325i 10-30-2006, 05:32 PM Get a Roll Bar/hoopsomethingorothers
Specter325 10-30-2006, 06:33 PM For track stuff
www.trackschedule.com
Look for the Carolinas PCA group. They offer some of the best bang for the buck DEs around. Mostly at CMP also. Though they are having one at VIR in December . I am pretty sure they still have some spots in the green group for the novices out there. At $250 for two days it is the cheapest you will ever see VIR full course.
Greyman09 10-30-2006, 07:41 PM I prefer Seat-Time over Turn1 if you had to have an instructor. I have run a lot of days with Seat-time and Turn1. Now that I am solo I prefer CMP to Roebling, both are fun though. Do both.

Ive got factory hoops tied to the frame of the car, they are rock solid, but still not allowed.
Even with a bar, I cant run a lot of events. I have to get a full cage. :devillook

Carolina PCA allow verts? :devillook
Specter325 10-30-2006, 08:36 PM PCA does but with rules.
For ALL Cabriolets, Convertibles or otherwise Soft Top Vehicles:
All cars must conform to the following:
· Vehicles must be equipped with a roll bar that meets PCA Club Race or SCCA Race requirements.
· The top of the main hoop must be at least two inches above the occupants’ helmet (s). With the driver and/or passenger correctly seated and securely belted in the vehicle, their helmet must be at least two inches below a straight line drawn between the top of the windshield and the top of the roll bar or hoop (“Broomstick rule”).
· Roll bar must be padded in any area that may come in contact with the occupants’ helmet or person.
· For any vehicle running without an OEM top in place, ALL occupants must have a 5 or 6 way harness, arm restraints and a full face helmet with shield in place.
Pretty strict but you can do it. And it is not a full cage just a 4 pt bar.

Guess Im out on the Dec VIR trip. :(
4 Point bar + hardtop mounts + Harness bar = $1500 + shipping
PJ325i 10-31-2006, 09:00 PM Crap. . . .
Time to start saving :)

Unless they told you to triple my pay for the rest of the year, then there is no way to save that much + pay for the car.
I guess I could stop paying for hte car, but then I'd just have a rollbar to stare at.
PJ325i 11-07-2006, 01:15 PM Aight. . . .
I just got back from CMP . . .ALL DAY for $150 . . . run as MUCH as you can :)
I ran a total of 50 laps . . . eventually running a 1:47.05 :buttrock
I'm trying to get some more info on having a similar track day
jekaio 11-10-2006, 11:19 PM i might be down for a track day, but i dont have internet at my place so if there is a quick track day i will probably miss it. but i try to check as often as i can
PJ325i 11-13-2006, 05:15 PM If you PM me you contact info, I'll make sure you know about it when we organize it.
MattP2002 11-21-2006, 07:32 PM I will note that Seat-Time allows roadsters like the S2000, Z3, Z4, and Boxster with factory roll hoops. It appears Turn One treats this the same way.
I have not had the chance to run with Turn One yet, but I have been very happy with my two trips down to Seat-Time.

One more vote for Seat Time then...since rumor has it, I have a 5 month wait on my bar. :help

Nope, I was just saying that I know Seat-Time allows it, and looking at Turn One's site, they appear to allow it as well.
Greyman09 11-22-2006, 08:52 AM I ran my S2000 at Seat-Time in Oct. No problems. Always fun. Roebling is nice with the new pavement.

I meant one vote for me. Its hard finding a group that lets you run factory roll hoops.
