View Full Version : Next AZ meet planning
AzN_M5 12-17-2002, 09:49 PM Ok, lets start the planning for the next meet. I figure it should probably be down in Tucson this time seeing as how I guess its Tucson's turn. Of course majority always rules so if Phoenix is better for everyone, then let it stay in Phoenix. I figure the Tucson guys have some good driving routes pre planned, hopefully. I like the pre-meet in Phoenix that we did at the Pavillion's car show so lets do that again. And then the following day all the Phoenix guys meeting for the drive down to Tucson. From there I have no idea, but Tucson guys I'm sure can figure it out from there. Does something like this work for everyone? This is just a suggestion so post up with any ideas. Also for dates, since Sundays seem to work the best for everyone, and the car show is always on Saturdays, take your pick for any time in January. If worse comes to worse I guess February also. Hopefully with better planning we should be able to make monthly meets, hopefully...
For the dates in January of 2003 we could do the 4th-5th, the 11th-12th, the 18th-19th (these two would be nice because the 20th is a holiday MLK day), or the 25th-26th. That's all the dates for January and if those don't work ok here we go into February...
mmm, i'm for jan 4-5 or 18-19, cuz i'm gonna be in cali sometime between those dates.
Also, since most people will be outta school, we could plan something on a weekday. this way, if we were to go to mt lemon, there wouldn't be much traffic to get stuck behind. (by the way, does it snow on mt lemon?)
one more thing, if anyone w/ a pretty good video camera wants to get some aerial shots (of the crew cruising on I-10 or the tortilla flats), let me know cuz i'm a certified pilot :D and need a few more flight hrs before i get my commercial license.
Misterdvs 12-18-2002, 01:24 AM I'll be back on the 21st:D
rgrmorris 12-18-2002, 04:49 AM I'd be down for any of those dates, although 18-19 or 25-26 would be best for me.
anyone of them should work for me. how are the turnouts in tucson? one of my co-workers rides a bike with some ideas for some scenic/nice drives. i'll see what he can come up with.
a weekday wouldn't work for me...since i am old and out of school. man, we need to find some older people to go to these meets.
ImageDynamicsM3 12-18-2002, 10:56 AM I have a Mini DV camcorder, which I consider a very nice peice of equipment for someone who isn't a pro......
Yeh, I am out of school right now so a weekday or weekend would work. The 8-9 sounds like a good date. The Mt. Lemon thing sounds pretty cool too. Somewhere that we could get some open road footage if you wanted that recorded too.
p.s. I would like to take a ride in an airplane and a M5 hehehehe :-)
ArcticSilverM3 12-18-2002, 01:32 PM Any of these dates sound good to me. I would love to get another run on Mt. Lemon. :evil2
I would prefer something like the 18-19th or the 25th-26th. These dates work best for me because I am going to be back and forth between Seattle for break.
And as for ideas for a drive, id really like to head out to jerome sometime...
HamannE46 12-18-2002, 07:30 PM I'm down. Just need a date & time.
Sean
///Misanthrope 12-19-2002, 12:50 AM Weekends only for me, gotta work M-F.
Is Mt. Lemmon open from bottom to top? I know they were doing a lot of construction there a while back.
Jerome sounds like a plan :boobies
ImageDynamicsM3 12-19-2002, 01:20 AM Whatever is clever. You get to far into Jan. and the students are back in school, so you are talking weekends again.

I think a lot of people have to work anyways during the week though so a weekend would most likely be best.
GTABurnout 12-20-2002, 01:38 PM Well it does snow on Mt. Lemon and some times they close the road off to everyone and some times it is only open to 4wheel drive or chains. Also I think a cruise down I83 would be one sweet ride. But hey it is your cruise so do what you want. Just an idea.
AzN_M5 12-20-2002, 09:33 PM So lets decide on a date then. Everyone say what date works best for them, and whatever one has the most votes will be the date for the meet.
Iniquity 12-21-2002, 05:06 AM There's actually another road in Tucson that's pretty fun to drive.. it's also in the city still.. so we can be seen... River Rd... man.. that is one twisty, windy, up and down drive... especially when you get further east... Mike... Hunter.. confirm/acknowledge/agree?!?
Brahman Bull 12-21-2002, 01:04 PM So lets start planning this thing so we all have enough time to request a day off or whatever else needs to be done so we all can make it. Personally, I think the meet should be here in Tucson. We could do the Mt. Lemmon thing but it is true that when it snows the road closes only to 4x4's. Nevertheless, there are some beautiful, twistie roads in the city and in the foothills. Lets make it for Sunday January 19th b/c it seems that is the best time for everyone. Any objections please post. But, lets not debate to the point where we are beating a dead horse. Let me know what you guys think.
-Gianni
Bayerisch_323 12-21-2002, 03:44 PM The 19th sounds good to me.....How about a drive down to Bisbee or something.....just an Idea....but this new road sounds really good.
-Rob
AzN_M5 12-21-2002, 08:50 PM The 19th works fine for me. Lets start planning the route/drive :b_blue:
Reveur15 12-22-2002, 03:01 AM Hey guys, any of those days are good with me. And River Road isn't half bad the only problem is that there are a lot of cops and a TON of street lights in between and although it's fun to drive it's hard to get the timing right on the lights and we would probably lose a lot of people in the process, it's not a straight shot like Mt. Lemmon and it's not nearly as long...I go driving there at night when I have time and the lights get annoying and it only takes about 15 maybe 20 minutes to do the whole thing (back and forth), and for the Phx people that's a little short! I was up on Mt. Lemmon last weekend and none of the roads were closed...it was ALL open. But I agree with Rob, I'm game for something new. Bisbee isn't far and there are like NO cops between Tucson and there I used to go down there all the time. It's about an hour outside of Tucson, but I have friends that live there that know all the back fun roads to get there and it's a cool little town too.....just an thought.....
*Jenn*:b_blue:
MikeBMW 12-22-2002, 04:10 PM 19th should be cool with me too, I'll request that date off from work...
///Matador 12-22-2002, 04:34 PM I am up for the weekend of the 19th (Sat of Sun) in Tucson, or the surrounding area. Mt Lemmon or Bisbee sounds sweet. I would have to say my vote is Bisbee.
I dont really feel like driving light to light on roads in the city, so I am not fond of the River road idea.
I had another M follow me home the other day, and he will probably come along as well. He has an Electric Violet M3. Finally some color to the crowd!
///Matador 12-22-2002, 04:36 PM BTW, why have we moved to bimmerforums??
I am not sure if anyone has posted it on dtmpower.net, but we should do that as well, if is has not been done.
ArcticSilverM3 12-22-2002, 06:00 PM Well, we moved over here because we all originally thought that DTM wouldn't allow us to post on the Regional forums. But, now we are allowed to. I have a quick question for all ASU students...do we have the 20th off? It's MLK Day, but I need to know if there are any classes because I'm going to need a day to move back down there. The 19th sounds good to me. I vote for another run on Mt. Lemon...but if weather doesn't permit then any other drive works.
no school on mlk day.... I will be there on the 19th, and im up for driving to tucson.
ArcticSilverM3 12-23-2002, 12:38 AM Alright, no school! We should get a caravan of phx guys to go down to tucson that morning. Total, it looks like we have these people so far:

revenson10 12-23-2002, 12:50 AM The 19th sound good to me. Bisbee sounds good.
I agree with ///Matador about river. Slow people, cops etc. I have been to Bisbee once. It's a pretty cool little town, but whatever count me in.
See ya then!

rgrmorris 12-23-2002, 02:09 AM 19th is good.....I vote for Mt. lemon if its not frozen...otherwise bisbee.

MattE21 12-23-2002, 04:08 PM the 19th looks good for me!
phx/scottsdale guys : we should get a group of ppl to drive down together...
and you all can give me an hour head start so we can get there together at the same time! hehe
(P.S) ill bring the wire ties
ArcticSilverM3 12-23-2002, 07:07 PM OK. Tucson people, what time are we looking at then? We will make a caravan o' bmw's down there in the morning sometime. What time would be the best to start the drive? Lets get these minor details worked out.
(P.S) ill bring the wire ties
HUH?
MattE21 12-23-2002, 08:48 PM pat... u know what happened last time i drove to tucson...!
my front spoiler lost a few screws and when i'd go over 85MPH, it rattled and vibrated like a motherfuckA !!
hehe
so when we got done with the lemmon drive shawn rob and i stopped at jacknthebox and i put on a few wire ties to hold it up so i could keep up with them on the way home... :checkered
(i guess its an inside joke for rob and shawn :) )
AzN_M5 12-24-2002, 03:58 AM Hey Phoenix guys, are we planning to do our own little mini meet thing again at the Pavillions the night before, which would be the 18th?
I'd maybe be down for that, it will really just depend on when I get back, as I am going to be driving down from Seattle that week.
MattE21 12-24-2002, 01:40 PM im down for a mini-meet at the Pavillions!
ArcticSilverM3 12-24-2002, 02:01 PM I'm there.

///Matador 12-29-2002, 12:11 PM Lets start the Tucson meet at 10-10:30 at the Fountain at the U of A. We will leave around 11:00. As of now, it will either be Mt Lemmon or Bisbee, depending upon the weather.
Whether Mt L, or Bisbee, expect a full days long drive, probably getting back to Tucson around 4:00. We will find a place to get some lunch on the way. As usual, if you need to break off, we can give you directions.
To get to the fountain at the U of A, drive down I10 from PHX, untill you get to the Speedway Blvd Exit #257, there is also a U of A sign there. Exit and make a left onto Speedway. Drive approximately 1.5 to 2 miles to Park Ave. Make a right at the light onto Park Ave. There is a Jack-in-the-box on the corner. Drive approximately .2 - .3 miles, and make a left onto University Blvd, at the main U of A gate, there is a four way stop here. Drive in, and we will line up there.
I will be there early around 9:45 or so. If you guys need to get a hold of me or are running late, my cell is 520-990-7804. Any questions, drop me an e-mail at kjeffcoat@att.net.
Since we have the meeting time and the location of the meet, we need to get a final on the location of the run. Post where you want to go as a final, and I can tally and determine where it will be, Mt. Lemmon or Bisbee.
I vote for Bisbee, b/c there are a lot of open roads, a two lane highway for part of the way, and not nearly as much trafic as Mt. Lemmon.
Let me know.
Keith
Gianni - Are you going? Give me a call and we can meet up somewhere...

///Matador 01-02-2003, 02:41 PM Just to let everyone know....ALL are welcome....BMW's that, unless we all agree on others, but just show up at the specific time and place, and we all drive together.
TheNeek 01-02-2003, 11:41 PM Just so you all know... the 19th is the same date as the border region SCCA solo I autocross. I will most likely be running my car. So sadly I must cancel. My friend will be running his E30 M3 and there are a few other Bimmers there. All are welcome to run there if you wish. 20 bucks for non members... for 3 runs through the track and 15 for members if you preregister. I might be able to meet everyone after your mountain run if you are interested in my M42 swap.

AUTO-X!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanna do that and make an ass of myself because I've never done it before and would be driving with my head up my arse... but for that reason.. I woudln't want to do it.. unless the SCCA provides those free instructors that the BMWCCA provides at their auto-x's... anyway..that'd be one kickass thing to do for a meet!! :buttrock
Oh well.. I'm actually not sure I'm going to this meet.. not really feeling it... although my lady friend wants to go.. :)... she's into driving fast and always asks why I won't race with her in the car.. :D I just tell her she'll slow me down..heheh..(seriously, I don't street race)..besides.. do I really want her to see how not so leet my driving skillz are? :dunno but I still make it look cool don't I?? eh?? do I get any confirmation from Lauren or Mike (Miggl) [by the way.. what happened to him?? did you join bimmerforums too??]??
TheNeek 01-03-2003, 12:05 PM The problem with doing the Auto-X here in tucson is that is starts EARLY!!!!... Pre registration payment starts at 8:00am... tech goes until 9:45... and first runs are at 10am. So I'm not sure that all you guys can make it down here in time to pay.
On a side note.... FASTE21.... if you want to see my ride I can give you my cell number so that when you get down here we can meet, with you, Jbob and myself (a mini E21 meet). Just a thought.

SupaBimma 01-04-2003, 02:53 AM how is the car scene in arizona? is it a good turnout? i may go for college so I wanna see if there is a good car scene. What about race tracks, are there any good race tracks in AZ?? just curious thanks
You do not go to college here for the cars, you go for the women. Women here are unbelievable. Anyway, there's a decent car scene, a 1/4mile track to run, 2 road courses within 45 mins, and some karting places. But good lord the women! A saturday night in Scottsdale will make you forget you even know how to drive. ;)
AzN_M5 01-04-2003, 01:34 PM Amen to that. :boink :love1
MattE21 01-04-2003, 01:57 PM i second that AMEN
Scottsdale women are beautifull.

(the cars and the women and the temperature here make it great)
BTW i'll prolly head to ASU for college next year

Could we do it a little later than 10:00 am sunday morning as most of us will be out partying the night before. How about 11 am? Also phoenix people wont have to leave so early. As for hunter you are defintely invited. But please try to limit the acuras and shit this is a BMW club not a ricer club.
