new doghouse for the huge yellow lab i got from the humane society, its getting freezing, and he likes being outside more than inside but i dont want him to freeze,
wheres the best deal for something thats gonna keep him warm?
he likes to sleep on the front porch (unscreened and catched all the wind as im at the corner of the st)

pic added!
biscuit is the yellow lab (he was yellow and i was hungry at the time, so when i got him from the humane society last month, named him biscuit)
and cleo is my boston terrier, got her from atlanta humane (the boston usually wants to sleep inside so i just need 1 big one for the lab)

pic!

For a dog that large, you're prolly looking at close to $100 for a ready-made house.

He'll actually be fine until it really dips below freezing.

Grab a $20 sleeping bag from Wal-Mart or somewhere and just fold it in half for him to lay on. That is, if he decides not to shred it. :rofl

Joe,

Just go to PetsMart or Petco and pick up a Dogloo Igloo Dog House. These things are easy to put together as well as keep clean and maintain. Petco is having a sale on them right now as well as the related accessories (Dog Pad, Heater, Water Bowl, etc.).

Petco Store Locator (http://www.petco.com/petco_Page_PC_storelocator_nav_2.aspx?cm_re=102605-_-hdr-_-locate)

You can pick up one of these in a Large size since you have a Lab as well as the cushion pad, water bowl, heater, etc for under $200. Dogloo is a major brand and veterinarian recommended. This is the information you get when you marry someone in the Veterinary field. LOL.

We had a dogloo. Our lab never once set foot inside. We sold it or gave it away or something...

That's what I was saying. :shifty

Labs are generally good to go until it stays below freezing for an extended time. They got thick skins.

Bill: Will ya do me a favor and check out my thread in this section?

We might have an extra doghouse in my basement, but it might not be big enough. I'll take some pictures tomorrow when I take some of my door.

This one's bad/funny:

I purchased this dog house for my seven month-old male boxer. I thought this would be great retreat from him on hot or rainy days. First of all it comes in three large pieces that are suppose to snap together... they do not. I snapped the first and second tier together, then I tried the third tier and then other side comes apart. On top of that, he takes it apart on himself....

I just find the idea of 'dog house' as 'dog toy' funny. I had a neighbor with a boxer, and I can easily see that dog tearing up a plastic house like that.

Have you looked at an Ace hardware? There's a big one in Tucker that might have something substantial. :ponder

Cool.

A big dog like that should be okay, regardless. My family had plenty of dogs up here in yon mountains that have done fine in cold, snow, etc.

Good luck with it!

Joe,

Never tried the KD Pro that you linked to, only the Dogloo XT. The Dogloo XT (http://www.petco.com/Shop/petco_Product_Nav_290_sku_183512_R_7729_enemerch_1 .aspx?cm_re=290-_-TopSellers2-_-183512) is of better construction and thus is better insulated. The Petmate Indigo (http://www.petco.com/Shop/petco_Product_R_9683_PC_productlist_Nav_290_N_22+9 6_sku_792225_familyID_12269.aspx) is even better. If you prefer a "normal" doghouse then there are kits available at Petsmart and Petco. As with any dog house you just can't expect your pet to go in there and stay on his/he own. You might have to put some food, toys or something he/she likes in there to get them used to using the dog house.

Just my .02 from experience,

Tim
