If I order the car without the sport package, is there a way to change or remove the electronic speed limiter? I will be putting on my own rims and getting the premium package so I do not want to spend $1000 just for the speed limiter to be raised. Any ideas?

I think that the sport pack has different seats too based on the description on BMW's site. (Inflatable side bolsters that are bigger?) Its got to be a simple ECU reflash, talk to your dealer about it. Though I wouldn't be too hopeful.

I've never heard about being able to remove speed limiters with dealer diag. equiptment, but I've never really looked either.

I don't know if the limiter is a separate device or a programed feature. The sport package may have other attributes that allow a higher top speed. You look into that before you tinker with anything.

Yes, like PERFORMANCE TIRES that can handle the higher speed instead of just all season tires.
The performance tires get the higher speed limit.

You have to put W rated tyres, unless you already have them. It's a problem for some my other car, it has limitter at 155, and I have to pay a bit more for tyres, although I do not want to do that.
