View Full Version : 2006 Chrysler 300C, yea it's gotta a HEMIIII
windnsea00 10-19-2006, 09:30 PM Ok I had taken the V6 version on a roadtrip last month but now my family rented another one ($33 a day special through Advantage) for this weekend. The car itself I don't care for...it's massive, small windows, squishy handling (thanks MBZ), dead on center steering (thanks MBZ), not very fuel efficient...the list goes on. Good things were lots of interior room and a pretty smooth freeway ride.
However, its saving grace is the V8 and turning off ESP. While it doesn't fully disengage ESP (thanks MBZ) I could still leave massive burnouts which is always a good time. The car almost felt like it had an LSD as the tail would snap out easily but I would imagine that is related to all the V8 torque. So I would say the V8 versions are perfect rental cars as most people enjoy a little tire roasting from time to time and I would rather have the 300C over a Towncar.
L3000C 12-05-2006, 01:37 AM yeah, i rellay like that car too bro, and for the price! its crazy what you get. But still so many people have them now, and the car inside seems cheap. O and yeah it has plenty of torque but the engine seems sluggish, it just doesnt rev fast enough. Nice review though.
ThrottleJunkie 03-25-2007, 03:54 PM What most people dont know is that the Hemi V8 is really powerful and when accelerating from a dead stop it will snap your neck.

Negative haha. BMW's are hemi's anyway, hemispherical heads...or at least they use to be.

Even the some of the old Chevy engines were Hemi's in a way. For example, the mighty 450hp LS6 in the Chevelle SS was often referred to as a "semi Hemi".
theBMWman 03-27-2007, 02:34 PM the v8's are nice but i think the 300's are overated
renemesis 03-27-2007, 02:50 PM Lots of car for the money -- especially the SRTs. And monster depreciation only helps that factor.

Yup, the M30 I6 uses Hemispherical heads.
OMGWTFBODY 03-31-2007, 12:01 PM SRT-8 = win. but not for the price.
Performance / dollar, I'll keep my current car.
That being said, slushbox FTL.
I've driven a ton of 300s. In terms of just a comfortable daily driver, they are win, with either V8.
2.7 and 3.5s can go to hell.
Same for the magnum.
ss109 04-16-2007, 09:30 AM I am driving one of these right now. What a piece of shit. It has 3xxx miles on it. The power steering pump went out after some Slightly spirited driving. The driver's door leaks all around the top when it rains. It squeaks and rattles. The rearview mirror is positioned so high that rregardless of your seating position you always see at least 1/2" of the roof in it. Floats like a boat.

Funny about the mirror thing, I remember it being quite a reach and not much room to move either. It was quite floaty also...the American way.
tortexal 05-15-2007, 06:56 PM 300c is a pile, feels like a HUGE neon. they use them as taxi's in vegas... that should tell you something right there
300s replaced the Intrepid...what can you expect?
S.Spec 08-28-2007, 07:29 PM /\ 300's did not replace the intrepid. In fact 300's have been around much before this big body style and while the Intrepid was still in production. They're not even made by the same brand.
Anyhow, I owned a 2006 300C for about 6,xxx miles. It was nice, I really digged all the room and supple leather. The layout of the interior is excellent, DVD player for the back seat. The Hemi really packed a punch when you stuck your foot to the ground, and oooo it had a nice growl. The benefit of the C was that half the cylinders would shut down when not hammering it, so it produced relatively decent mileage for it's size/power. After tinting the windows and replacing the grill it drew tons of looks as well.
The thing I didn't like was all the problems that occured in those first 6,xxx miles. The moonroof started whistling, then leaking. After that was fixed under warranty it started whistling again. Back to the shop. Then the chrome side panel started coming off. Dealer. Passenger power window problem. Dealer. Sold the car to my dad about 1.5 yrs ago, he's still got it. He's been in to the dealer about 3-4 times since. Once that warranty ends I'll bet he sells it. The build quality was just not up to par.
Overall, I loved the car and wished I could have kept it, but when my 1991 BMW w/ 95,xxx miles on it was having much less problems then the 2006 Chrysler w/ 6,xxx miles on it, it was time to cut my losses and move on....
Sal Collaziano 04-24-2008, 03:21 AM I have a 2007 300C and it's a fairly luxurious, very comfortable car that happens to be very fast as well.. 0-60 in 5.4 seconds is impressive for such a big, heavy car. This is my first (and last) Chrysler - but I'm very impressed with the car. If it weren't for the service being the worst I've ever experienced, I might have bought a 300C SRT8 next..
S.Spec 04-25-2008, 07:45 PM /\ What about the service didn't you like? Only problems I had was with the dealer when they were fixing things that shouldn't have been breaking in the first place. They messed up the trim when fixing the sunroof and made me fight to get them to fix it. That annoyed me but isn't as bad as what's happened to me at a BMW shop (not dealer).
Overall I really liked that car and still love riding in it when I go viist my dad (who still has it since the last post I made). He's actually not had many problems in the last year or so. I'm not sure as to the mileage though. The SRT8 was too much more $$ for the 37 extra hp it gives, though it looks a bit more unique. My dad put on the chrome B pillars like the SRT8 and it looks great! Very quick car when you got on it.
dawgeatdawg 04-26-2008, 02:24 AM I love the feel of the Hemi, even though it's brash and American. I would never purchase one of these, but as a rental car, they're going in the right direction. That, and my friends and I always think we see a Rolls Royce, then we get owned.

My little 240sx's SR20DET is a Hemi.

:lol what do you expect going from a 335i to a 300c?
Get back in your 335i... it'll make you feel better :D

I believe most if not all BMW engines have hemi-spherical heads also.

Yeah alot of cars have Hemis they just dont market it they way Chrysler does I beleive they actualy copyrighted the term? Even some toyotas have hemis in them.
So if someone says they want a dodge hemi just give em a Neon
redfoot 06-03-2008, 08:07 PM Depreciation sucks, but I got mine used with a $19k discount after 9k miles:).
The SRT is a totally different animal from the basic Hemi.
For the record, zero issues in 5k miles.
With 3 kids 4 and under, the size if the interior sold me.
The 425/420 helped make the decision also.
