View Full Version : Size of rotor retaining screw?

I'm about to undertake a complete overhaul of my M3's brakes. I've gotten all new rotors and new Axxis Ultimate pads along with some Ate Super Blue fluid courtesy of Andie Lin at Cobalt Friction Technologies(excellent guy!).

So I've done brakes on my Integra I owned before, and the M3 looks to be just as easy. Except looking through the Bentley manual, I cannot find a size for the rotor retaining screw. It is definitely an allen wrench/hex key type screw and if I'd have to guess I'd say 3-5mm, but that leaves alot of room.

If anybody remembers - what other sized allen wrenches would one need to complete this task?

One last question... Is a pressure bleeder absolutely necessary to flush the brake fluid like the Bentley manual states? Or can one get by with the old method of someone pumping the brakes a few times, holding, opening the bleeder screw, then closing, pump - hold - open - close... wash - lather - rinse - repeat.. ;)

A pressure bleeder would be a nice item to have, but if it isn't completely necessary I'd rather save the money and use it for even more superficial things like some bling-bling caliper paint. :boink

Thanks for any responses guys! My baby is loving all the attention I can give her with the constant help of this board.

Its a 6mm allen and a pressure bleeder makes it a helluva lot easier but it is not necessary, just keep tabs on the fluid level and good luck!
