I just purchased a dealer owned 2005 X3 2.5i. Great car, love it....but the thing is I really wanted to have the 4 function on-board computer. Since I bought it semi-used (again it was a dealer car) I had to buy it as is.

The weird thing is that it was the base but with lots of add ons. It has heated seats, panoramic sunroof, power fron seats and a bunch of other little things that are BMW famous a la carte.

The one thing I would like is to have the on-board computer. Right now my heating and a/c are knobs...that is fine but looks kind of cheap. I don't care about not ahving cruise control, or the options on the sterring wheel and even the leatherette seats aren't that bad.

Ok, so my question is, can I add an on-baord computer after the fact? Would it be too $$$?

TIA!<!-- / message -->

i have an x3 with sport package and i like the dials better that the digital look. one more thing to go wrong - bmw in infamous at making crappy digital displays.

instead of navigation system (lot of cash) i would go for a garmin ir an in dash aftermarket nav system (they you have dvd capability too)

Actually, the OBC is most likely already included with the car (it needs to be turned on by the dealer). However, you will have to purchase the turn signal stalk that has the OBC button on it.

I learned this trick from my Mini. It didn't come with the OBC from the factory, but I had the button for it. All I did was take the car to a dealer and had them turn the OBC on.

I actually tried to do this with an 04 X3 2.5. Can't be done without replacing one of the modules. Replacing the stalk is only half the retrofit.
