Literally, it's "Horse-deer declaration." In Japanese "Horse-deer" (being a ridiculous concept for an animal) means "stupid" or "stupidity."

Chapel,

What's up man. The DTM Regional forum has all the info you need about what's going on, meets, etc. before they happen. That was just an F1 Boston meet that turned into a little naughty outing. :D

I will make sure that any and all events discussed on the DTM Regional forum make their way here as well, but I don't think it will be a problem as a considerable amount of the members here are also members of both boards.

John's Ti is the unfortunate victim of S03s in our latest snowstorm - it's amazing what an ice bank can do to the front of a car at low speeds, esp. when he wasn't even screwing around. :(

Sebastian,

The server issues at DTM Power have finally reached critical mass, and are in the middle of an upgrade. Until the new machine is built, DTM Power will only be seeing sporadic uptime - if that. Be assured that it will be back and in full effect at some point, and that your donation is about to be put to effective use.

Yeah, WTF? I mean, it's not like $10 a year is alot of cash, but they're getting funds from advertisers and all. What are they going to do with the cash? Even if only 50% of DTM'ers send in $10, that's going to be a significant amount of money...

Seems lame to charge for access to a forum...

And articles, event coverage, videos, and Car of the Month features. All of which cost a ridiculous amount per month in bandwidth charges, and which the few supporting vendors do nothing to allay. Would that things could be different, but the owners can (or will) no longer foot the bill by themselves.

While I have no interest in defending the decisions made by those over which I have no sway, I will at least offer that DTM Power has historically been much more than a simple online forum, and this type of online entertainment costs big bandwidth bucks. Let alone the hardware upgrades that are necessary every six months. If DTM were indeed just forum, this all would never have come to pass. :dunno

How do articles, car of the month and event coverage cost money? I'm sure the writers and photographers don't get paid for their work.

Look at VWVORTEX.COM. That's a HUGE forum that has all that you mention, and manages to get by quite successfully without having to charge their members.

It's one thing to have a fund raising drive, offer products for sale to raise funds or a product raffle, it's quite another to charge for access.

I guess even tho it's not alot of money, I'm still wondering where the funds will be going, as it'll turn into a large sum, even if everyone doesn't donate.

Is dtmpower a forum or a business?

tb0ne
12-21-2002, 05:10 PM

ALSO: please dont think im just some stupid kid who drives a brand new bimmer that daddy bought me. first of all, it was not bought for me, it just kinda ended up in my hands due to a lose of a family member. Second of all, I do NOT take this car for granted. Third of all, I AM NOT RICH, i come from a middle class family, and the family member who bought this car always dreamed of getting a car like this, so after a while they did. And lastly, i can probably drive just as well as all of u out there, and am probably almost just as knowledgeable, if not more about cars. And the same thing goes for my love of cars and racing.

srry i just had to clear that up before anybody passed any judgements about me...

hey guys... i did this kinda thing over on E3S... it's a list of all the guys in the local areas, their real names, what they drive, where they're from etc... figured we could do the same thing over here

i know the list over here would be alot bigger though, since this regional forum isn't just e30's, but it's a thought (then again, there's a few on that list that drive cars other than e30's, sooo :dunno )

How far you're willing to travel for a meet: Not very far, atleast until I get my own car.
Best times to meet: Nice Weather/ Weekends
Type of place to meet: Anywhere.

I am new to BimmerForums, I just got my license a couple of weeks ago, and I am about a 1/4th of the way to buying an e30. Please don't judge me because of my age, I am a very responsible driver, and I know how to drive a standard. (I guess thats pretty rare for someone my age to know how to drive a stick, but that is all my family drives.) I drove almost every day since I got my permit, so I have had a lot of experience, just within the first 6 months of driving. Not to mention driving into Lynn every night for shool. Another reason you shouldn't judge me by my age because I am 16 and I got to college..so HA!

The reason I am telling you all this, is because I know every most teenagers are horrible/irresponsible drivers, and I don't want anyone to compare me to them.

Anyways, I am saving up for a e30 325i/325is and I hope to have one by next summer. I would definately would love to go to some meets or something, especially when I have my own car to take pride in. :) I don't know a whole lot about cars, I know the basics, but I plan on learning a lot here on the forums.

I guess this makes me another teen BMW driver..Like all you others said that were all capable, i dont think that anyone here would really pass judgment. Its not easy to own these damn cars, especially when their so damn expensive, and non-responsible kids cant even fathom owning a car cause they cant pull together the money.

But anyway, New here, love the community of owners here. Hope to get some mods for my 525i for the next BAVAUTO show.

Mark, I have a 1989 325i engine (M20B25). It was pulled from a working car for an engine swap. It is a little low on compression, but it is even all across at 150. It pulls strongly.

I'll let it go for $300. The head is in great condition. If all you need is a head, I can sell that for $175. It is a shortblock, so it is just the oil pan, head, and block. No intake stuff or accessories.
