I had to change out my rear differential this weekend. If you have questions about how to do this, I can be a big help. Just let me know.

Why did you change it out?
bad wheel hop likely fractured the pinion in the diff. It gave out driving from san jose to Bakersfield (CA) to see my GF, luckily I have a lot of friends down there. We changed it out ourselves (air tools even).

We were inexperienced with rear ends, took us 6 hours (no lift was used, just jack stands, creeper, some air tools, etc....

Is your car a M?

Do you need a tranny jack to hold the old diff while removing and bolting up the new one?

M car: yeah, 1999 E36 M3 (3.23 limited slip diff)
Tranny-jack: Yeah, the diff weighs in the neighborhood of 100 lbs.

You COULD hold it up, but not all of us look like the following:

I planning on a diff out of a 96-99 auto swapped for my 95's 3.15.

Thanks again!
