View Full Version : My First Ride in a Z4 M Conv.

Hey, I'm new here. I thought you might perhaps like to know what I did tonight.

When my friend pulled up in what appeared to be a Z4 my first thoughts were: pretty cool car; then he started it. The sound was like no other, the feel of it amazing. The way it gripped the corners and sounded as it sped up to 60 mph in a modest 6 seconds. Then I realized: Hey, this is an M series; the best of the best. I knew there was something more to be said for it, so as my friend and I sped up I knew there was some untapped power under it's hood. Then it hit me; by "it" I mean the torque.

We were up to 90 within seconds and it felt as if we were only going 65. That's when I realized what M mean't, for this was not only my first time in an M series, it was also my first time in a Z4 M series. The amazing feeling as you piss old ladies (and, in our case, grown men driving ridgeliners) off by speeding past them and a very modest 72 mph. Being as I didn't DRIVE the car, I can not judge the handling of it, but with the knowledge I have, I say it must handle very well.

It quite comical, actually, to be flipped off by some dude in a Honda Ridgeliner for doing nothing other than driving. Was it envy of the M symbol printed all across the car? Was it the fact it was a BMW and his was a Honda? Was it the fact we didn't care? Or was it perhaps the fact that we were driving one of the few (if not the only) Z4 M's in Nashville) Probably a combonation of them all. However, I believe it was just the fact that Honda has no M series, in fact all Honda has for speed is too many ricers, most of which don't even have any of the original "HONDA" parts.

Of course, not to discredit Honda (only the people who drive them like BMW's). Honda is a highly reliable brand but I'd like to see an Accord race that M series Z4.

*Edit* Sorry. It's called a Roadster.

Nice! I had a similar experience when I went to Phoenix on business travel. I had a little time to kill so I test drove two cars. The Z4 M and the 760 Li.

The sales assistant who was helping me was driving with me, and I got some dirty and funny looks from people who saw a kinda short (5'8") white dude with a tall, big boobed blonde woman in a brand new convertible with 300+ horses under the hood. Maybe it was the woman. Maybe it was the car. Maybe it was both, but yeah, definitely could tell some people were jealous.

Good ride man :).

Yea man, if I were a bit older, I'd test drive cars all damn day.

. . . Maybe it was the fact your nose was so high in the air that it only served to reinforce the sterotype held by the drivers of most non-german cars: you somehow think you are better than him because YOUR FRIEND dropped a ton of cash on something that is probably just a status symbol. You sound like a pompos asshole.

Not to discredit BMW . . . but I'd like to see your precious M Roadster race something with a sticker price ~$25k above it also, saaaaayyyy a C6 ZO6?

It isn't his. He is testing it over-night. And I do think I'm better than the idiot who's trying to cut us off in traffic in his RIDGELINER. I mean it's not as if we wanted to RACE him because clearly most BMW's can beat a heavy car such as his, but we were just driving and he tried to keep getting in front of us (for no reason).

First off, it's not my M Roadster.
Second, it would take the ZO6 easily. 0-60 for the ZO6 is 3.9 secs. 0-60 for the M Roadster I was in is 4 flat (it has been chipped).
Perhaps it would not take the ZO6 in a straight line (interstate) because it's V8 vs I6. Either way try following the M Roadster around a corner in your ZO6, how bout that?
Also the M Roadster starts at 50k, the ZO6 at 70k (that's $20,000 difference, which is a lot.

Also, lets see which one lasts for the most miles.

PS: I know you wouldn't try to discredit BMW because you know your Prelude wouldn't match up against any bmw ever made.

I only test drove it because I had the time to kill =P. And, I'm only 25.

By "a bit older" i mean legally able to test drive cars, haha.

And I don't really see a reason for the bickering, do you?

Please tell me you don't seriously think that M roadster can do "4 flat" from 0-60 because it's "chipped". Now please also tell me you were joking when you said :

"Either way try following the M Roadster around a corner in your ZO6, how bout that?"

You do know that the z06 will kick that car's ass in both of those measures, don't you?

You compared the M Roadste to a car costing about half as much (Accord), I simply chose to follow your logic and compare two vehicles in VASTLY different categories and price ranges. I suggest you do a little reading on the C6 Z06 . . . it posted one of the fastest times ever around the Nurburgring, and is more in the territory of Ford GT's and vehicles with prancing horses on them than the M Roadster.

i never compared it to the Ridgeliner, nor would I ever. That would be a dumb comparison.

These arguements always take place in the middle of the US with BMW v.s. Chevy blah blah, etc. Just move out to CA where BMW's are nothing special so there are no debates :)

The Prelude gets me around a whole lot better than "Cars:None", thats for damn sure.

If you are so concerned about how blazing fast cars are through turns, and not in straight lines, why are you even discussing 0-60 figures?

No one, myself included, said you compared it to a Ridgeline (RIDGELINE, not RIDGELINER). . . you compared it to an Accord at the end of your first post; A vehicle in a vastly different market segment than the M Roadster.

Guys, can we at least recognize when an idiot or troll is posting here, and either put them on ignore or refrain from responding please?

This is the LAST bastion of relative civility I find on the web and I don't want to stop coming here too because of people either too young to realize they're stupid, or too stupid to realize they're too young.

I didn't compare it. I said I would like to see an Accord race and beat a M series Z4 (meaning: honda isn't exactly up there with BMW)

also, if i had a license i would have a car.

So I'm either trolling or an idiot? What makes you figure that? Having opinions that differ from your's makes me either one of those?

Perhaps you should re-evaluate your own statement.

BS about the MZ4 running 4 flat from 0-60mph. There is not even a chip available for the MZ4 now.

The MZ4 does 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. Even if there was a chip for the MZ4 by now, which there isn't, no chip in the world is going to make it shave 0.7 sec. It isn't turbo'd. It'd take at least another 100HP for this car to do 4-flat.

And yes I actually DO own an MZ4.

You'd be surprised how many BMW models the S2000 can beat. In fact, it'd be easier and quicker to count how many BMW models it CANNOT beat.

No, I know what to say....

It rests on the fact that you come on here. Ignorant to the facts, post up what you expect to be something that will get you high-fives and praise, but ultimately ends up in ridicule by other members, but yet you're ignorant to why that is happening as well.

I get it. You are young, naive, ambitious, and hard-headed....all qualities that can serve you well, or destroy you....but the one quality everyone has seen so far (besides yourself of course) is that you're arrogant already...and have no basis for being arrogant.

Do yourself and the BMW community a huge favor and put your ego/pride/arrogance in check if you're ever going to buy a BMW....hell for any car when it comes down to it.

/high horse

Also, I am curious if this would even be an issue had the driver of the Ridgeline been in an X5 or other German suv...

Just enjoy what you have - when people put each other down for their cars it says more about the person doing the put down than it says about the cars. Who cares - just enjoy what you are driving! What I love about cars today is there are so many choices and personalities - the budget cutters havent made everything bland (like certain brands I won't name since I dont want to inflame this conversation!).

I love the M Coupe that is soon to arrive but I'm still keeping my S2000.... too much fun to be had!!!

Anybody that thinks or believes that an m z4 would take an Z06 vette(current edition especially) is smoking hallucinogenic herb or is simply VERY poorly informed. Even if the M Z4 had 430 horsepower it is doubtful that it would shave more than half a second off the time of 4.7 which would bring it to 4.2ish. For the Y generation that is crashing Myspace all the time and sufin the net I am truly disturbed. Here are the figures. 2006 Z06 0-60 3.6 quarter mile 1/4 in 11.5 at 127.3 mph and pulls 1.06 Gs. Top speed is 198. Although the M6 could possibly "see" the same top speed in a real German car not electronically castrated at 155mph like the ones in the US, it is far slower overall due mainly to its' weight disadvantage and far lower torque output. It is currently the only car by BMW than can come close and it does not come close at all. Thankfully I would remind the youthful entrant that BMWs are amongst the most pleasurable cars in the world to "drive" and also happen to be very sophisticated and dependable(in general) and great to look at, be seen in, feel good to sit in and have great interiors(although Audis have the best overall in a similar price class) have terrific resale value except for the big 7s but the same is true for any marques' Big Luxo Sedans ie.-Merc S, Audi A8L, etc. Also God forbid you are in a crash, I would rather be in even an old Z3 than a $70,000.00 dollar Z06 vette with its' fiberglass body, but hey that's just me! Anyways whatever floats your boat.
