I'm looking into this car right now...anybody have any experience they would like to share with me...what you like, don't like, what you average for gas mileage, etc.

You might want to consider a 3.0 instead of the 2.5. It's a matter of personal taste, but the 04 2.5 I had for a weekend seemed woefully underpowered, IMHO.

I did, however, like how it handled very much. It was reasonably quiet and stable for a small SUV. I have an X5 and while it was no match for that car, it still was certainly a very nice-to-drive little brother SUV, and worth the money.

I have since test-driven an 06 X3 3.0 and liked the power it offered. Again, it's no 4.4i, but I understand the 07 X3 3.0 is even more powerful.

Yes, I read it, and I also read the 40K mile test that Motor Trend just completed as well. I wanted to get some opinions of some people who owned one, even though I didn't get one, I'm thinking of it as a future wife to be vehicle.

I had an '04 X3 for two years and absolutely loved it. It was a 6 speed manual transmission and gas mileage averaged 17-19 in town and close to 26 on the highway.

Problem is, apparently most people don't want a manual tranny in an SUV so we really got screwed when we traded it in.
