I have an 04 X-3 with premium package and BMW Assist. My steering wheel has a voice symbol button and when pushed, places a call to a Verizon network and I get a message to contact Verizon. I suspect that the motorola module built into the vehicle can only be used to contact BMW Assist. Also my radio displays the words DIRECTORY when the steering wheel button with the phone symbol is pushed
Question... Can this unit be modified to have bluetooth capabilities also what can my module realy do. My BMW dealer cannot realy give me any concrete answers.
Thanks for any feedback.

Answer: No. The TCU in the 2004's did not support Bluetooth, and there is no SW fix. You can buy and have the dealer install a TCU from a later year
X3 that will provide both Assist and BT, but you will have to pay $$ for the new unit. (This retrofit does work, though--I have done it.)

There is lots of info on the various BMW boards. In the meantime, get a new dealer as there is a TSB that spells this out very clearly to the service people.

This information is out-of-date. Several of us have installed the 2005 or later TCU's so that we have both Assist and Bluetooth.
