I thought a thread like this might help people decide on what route to take in turbo/turbine choice for what they want to accomplish with their car. Just copy/paste the following and fill in the blanks. Hopefully I'm not missing anything...

I thought he was also using 109 octane? 111? I forgot but remember that dyno being race fuel.

That was with 111 octane fuel and good standalone tune with Haltech.

Rafa has been running 13 psi on 10.5:1 CR, stock head gasket, stock head bolts, and 93 octane pump gas.

Eh, they all do that. :(

Dynos are very *not real life* like that, which is why I prefer road data.

With a proper load bearing dyno, you can make it do the exact opposite if you wish, actually. The printout shown above is from an inertial dyno (Dynojet) that only has the mass of the drums as resistance, which (as Mike points out) is not the same load as seen on the street. In a constant speed or controlled sweep rate test on an eddy current dynamometer, you will likely see a much faster boost response with respect to time.

Additionally, the road load from wind resistance (aero drag) is what keeps the turbine speed up at high rpm more so than an inertial dyno. This is why the above graph also shows a significant drop in boost pressure at high speeds. On the road, this car likely continues with "flat" boost response or even possibly a little creep upward. A good load bearing (eddy current) dyno can also replicate this condition during testing. Hence the reason I insist upon them for proper tuning of turbo cars.

I hope rukman doesn't mind, but this is the only GT35R dyno I know of, with the boost plotted.

<img src="http://mydrive.roadfly.com/blog/uploads/rukman_TTS3_20psi.jpg"/>

This is a TT Stage III kit. I would have expected the GT35R to spool much faster. This is on the ICS dyno..

you can run 13psi with just a thicker head gasket. Im going to run 14psi with a .140 headgasket made by vac.

Dakardave, what psi is that dyno at?

Do you mean the TT Stage III dyno? The max psi was ~20psi... The max boost on that run was a little below 20psi...

Doesn't 500rwhp seem low for 20 psi with a GT35R?

And does anyone know which turbine A/R that kit comes with?

seems about right to me:

~515rwhp on 19.7psi and 8.5:1 compression

Jon's monster M roadster, made 505rwhp on ~17psi and 9.1:1 compression... (OBD-II - GT35R setup)

So, it seems just about right....

BTW, for those interested.. here's the orginal post on jon's setup..
