I'd search for this, if I knew what to search for. And 320i gives 280 results :shifty so...

I'm selling my golf so I can free up some $ and get a less expensive DD. there is this '80 320i manual in my town for sale. the owner is a tech at the local bimmer dealership. the car has 216k on it, but with a rebuilt engine, recaro driver's seat, tasteful decals, powdercoated wheels, coilovers (they're old though and need to be replaced soon) and new tires. I drove it, and other than it pulling to the left (PO said that the left tire needed air) the car drove great. trans was smooth, and the engine sounded clean and pulled well all the way up to redline.

downside is that the car has no bumpers (looks good, but I don't think it's street legal) IT HAS ONLY ONE INTERIOR SEAT, and the steering misalignment kinda concerns me. It may only need an alignment, but since the front shocks are blown, the steering rack and other components may need to be repaired. What are your thoughts? he's asking $1500, but I could bring him down to $1k no problem since he's been trying to sell it for more than 1.5 years. I absolutely loved driving this car, but if it's going to cost me a left nut to keep running as a DD, then I'm probably just going to avoid it and keep the dub. thanks for the opinions :buttrock

$1500 is too much, $1000 is more reasonable if it is in good condition.

The steering racks rarely need work or replacement-my '82 has 340,000 on it and the rack is fine.

Shocks/strut inserts are not a big deal.

You are right, no bumpers in illegal in CA but I ran my '82 without one for over a year and the local cops and CHP never stopped me. Bumpers are not that hard to install and there are plenty in just about any Pick-a-part yard.

Seat's are not a bid deal either... finding a passenger Recaro in good condition at a reasonable price may be difficult. You could sell the drivers side Recaro and get enough $$ to pick up a pair of standard seats in good condition. OR... you could buy aftermarket seats and install them with some work (custom mounts).

The pull to the left... Have him air up the tire and try it again. If it still pulls to the left check the tire wear pattern in the front-it likley just needs an alignment but you never know for sure.
