Hey, how is everyone? I just wanted to post a picture with some info on the new AFE stage 2 intake for the E46 M3. This intake is somewhat more affordable than the previous stage 1 AFE intake for the E46 M3; the stage 2 goes for $499 and comes as pictured. The main reason being, AFE wanted to be able to better compete in the market with other high performing intakes for a truly great price. The intake is somewhat similar to a K&N 63 series intake for the M3 but differs in materials used and design. The filter is also better at preventing dirt and dust from entering your car than other leading competitors filters. If anyone has any questions regarding this intake or would like to order one, please don't hesitate to contact me directly, thanks!!

If price wasn't a factor. Which would you recommend? Stage 1 or 2?

In my opinion, I'd probably go with the stage 2 as it makes more power than the previous AFE. Although I wish that the stage 2 intake still had the metal heatshield on top of the intake. All in all the stage 2 is proving to be quite a good intake for a very affordable price. If you have any other questions regarding the intake, please let me know, thanks! :D

With the release of the AFE stage 2 intake we've also changed our evosport power packages for the E46 M3 as well too. Here's a chart with some numbers and contents of the kits, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me directly, thanks!

Here's a break down of which parts will be included in this limited time offer. Also as far as brands for the parts that are applicable to the corresponding packages. This is a great oppurtunity to get a hold of some of the best products for your M3 with great savings to you.

Intake: AFE Stage 2 (Afe's newest intake, with new design, read original post for more info)
ECU: Powerchip Software (can be tuned to match the mods that accompany each corresponding package)
Headers: Evosport (Mild Steel with ceramic coating, lifetime warranty on the coating)
Exhaust: Magnaflow Full Cat-Back Exhaust ( Stainless exhaust, complete cat-back with a great tone)
Cats: 100 CPI race cats

We can also install any or all of the above mentioned parts for our local customers.

I'm not sure if there's been any issues with heatsoak so far. At least I haven't heard of any heatsoak issues, however if you look up at the picture you can see they tried to help protect the intake from heatsoak. The intake tube was designed to help divert as much heat as possible to keep the IAT's as low as possible. Once we install a couple of the Stage 2 intakes we'll be able to test them out ourselves and really have an idea if there's any heatsoak or not. Thanks!

I'll be sure to keep you and the other members posted on this intake. Hopefully we can get a couple more out there to test and then we can compare it to some other intakes for everyone. I just think for the price this intake can't really be beat.

just out of curiosity, as i havent been able to find any testing...how does the gruppe M intake match up to these AFE, i know the price diference is huge 1600 vs 500..but wondering if the ram air style of the grupe m provides any more hp/tq?

good news! I e-mailed AFE to find out if the AFE stage 2 intake will be CARB certified and here was their response:

CARB certification is pending state test approval. The application has been sent and we are waiting for the approval.

I am new to E46 M3's ... but how on earth can an INTAKE cost $500??!!? And thats the cheapest one I've seen, others are 7-800.

The Gruppe M is wortless. Looks pretty, no power. Lots in the archives.

Simple economics. Small volume, expensive R&D = higher price. Of course there is some added by manufacturers sometimes due to the prestige of the make.

However, think about it. If you make 500 (BMW intake) of something or 5000 (domestic or import intake), your cost drops drastically.

Thanks

We use AFE (we still have Stage 1) with the Evosport Powerchip software and have set HP track records this year at:

PIR
Buttonwillow
Willow Springs
Sear's Point
Laguna Seca

So I think we like it :cool

does the TMS intake differ from the gruppem then even though they look the same as they claim what 7rwhp about from it and have a dyno graph though companies have been known to lie before?

it is a different piece and a call to Will or Doug would get you the info you need. They are good guys. They would not intentionally lie to anyone!
