Ok I need some help finishing up my stereo install.

I took out the old radio, cut a much bigger square in the console to fit the new stereo, hooked up the antenna input (just plugged it in). I have stripped the speaker wires, and the antenna power wire, and hooked them up to the stereo. I am pretty confident that I got it correct so far.

There is some other wires for an amplifier, some kind of phone thing (I guess it has the capability for a car phone), and rear speakers. All of which I don't have. So I'm all set there.

Now there is three wires left coming out of the stereo. The manual says this.

Red - Ignition
Yellow - Battery
Black - Ground

I am going to put the ground on the grounding point behind the console. So that is all set.

Now what wires do I hook up the Ignition and Battery wires to? I am having a hard time reading the wiring diagrams in the manuals off of BMW320i.com and I don't know what the colors are.

There is these 2 purple striped wires and a blue striped wire which are connected with plugs and then merge into a red wire which is connected to a fuse holder thing, and a yellow plug on this end. (This was all plugged into the back of the factory radio.) So I assume this is what I need to work with, but I don't know if I am right. I assume the fuse thing should just be cut off and restrip the wire. (The new stereo already has a fuse on the back of it.

It looks like this....

Okay. Here is my question:

Where do I connect the ignition wire and battery wire from my stereo's wire harness to the wires in the car? (So I can get power.)

on my 320i 83'

the ignition is purple and the red w/ yellow stripe is the power. make sure you have a fuse on the power wire even if you have one on your deck.

So the one in the diagram I drew above is is the power? (It has the fuse.) What kind of fuse do I need?

I am not sure which one is the ignition, is it neccisary for me to connect the ignition wire? That just means I can use it when the car is ACC mode right?

Does the fuse have to be the same as my new stereo deck???

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure which one to use, because I couldn't find any mention of it in the manual, but my manual is kind of messed up and missing pages. My stereo has a 10amp fuse on the back so, I didn;'t know if that would be enough. I have my Haynes manual on its way, and tomorrow I am going to pick up a wire tester to I can figure out which one is the battery, which one is the ignition.

heres a quick tip, the power one is USUALLY thicker then rest.
